mach3?? ESS
i have been trying to get mach4 to work but it is just too confusing to me. i understand that the program is completely rewritten but why not adhere to some conventions of mach3 as to where to find and set stuff.
i can make absolutely no progress with hotkeys and MDI does not work and motor tuning is totally wrong even though it shows correct values. motion when running a program is nuts i must have active highs and lows swapped but ????
has anyone written a tool for using a working mach 3 configuration to set up mach4 with ESS.
now for the truly bizarre.
i noticed this yesterday and immediately estopped but today i decided to let it run and see what happened.
i am running a program that calls a sub many times more than i would ever use it with a tool change to allow for parts change.
when i started after a tool change the motors went through a totally bizarre song and dance. could not recognize the tune. i was sure it would crash but it just undid the strange movement and then acted as if nothing happened.
anyone ever experience this?
and one more request. i have 3800 parts to make and am getting tired of the occasional hiccups with mach3 and really did want to migrate to mach4 but i just can't seem to do it. i am taking heavy drugs for stage 4 prostate cancer and i know my mind is fogged. programming that i could do in my sleep is a serious challenge, i get confused really easily. i also ideally want to get the machine working well enough that i can train someone else to use it when i die which could be soon.
I also think that if i get everything ready for others to take over i will live forever :) Seriously at this point my case is eluding the doctors and it might be possible for me to live another 10 years but if i suddenly get too sick to work it will be too late to set this stuff up for others to use.
I REALLY NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN SET UP MACH4 FOR ME. I am sure the company i work for (owned by my sister) will pay a fair rate for help.

Hi Spencer:
Mach4 MDI works differently from Mach3. You need to press the "Cycle Start" button to activate the MDI code (not "Enter" as in Mach3)

why? is this just to confuse us?
still have issues with hotkeys. they are all set in the keyboard plugin but nothing works. is there a hidden switch to activate keyboard plugin? i can not find it anywhere. if nothing else i need to do some jogging to test motor tuning signal directions etc.
why is keyboard a plugin and not part of the main program?

Hi Spencer,
Yes it is 100% redone and only has less than 1% of the Mach3 code in it. Now the GUI is one part that is WORLDS apart from Mach. The reason for this was to give the people that where asking for features a way to get them. Hot keys are done in the keyboard plugin and are treated like normal inputs. This was done to help with people making control panels so the? actions done in the control panel would be the same action done by a KB or a Pokeys or even a PLC. Also? you can use the PMC that is like the brains in Mach4 to tie logic together and make things happen as well.
We did make a tool to view the settings from Mach3 .. it is an XML reader wizard. That should help you I hope...
Spencer, Tomorrow I will help you get rolling and we will get your parts made. Could you please send me your XML so I can have a look at your settings? I will make a profile for you and get whatever? you need working. Also if I I can do anything to help make the machine better for you to use in the process I will do that at the same time.
Thanks Brian

Hellp Spencer, many of the OEM machines that are done have NO Keayboard plugin. They have dedicated hardware for jogging and all the CNC functions that the user would like to do. This again was done at the request of the machine builders. Also Mach4 is done so it is cross platform and the the KB plugin is special because it is done just for Windows.
The Cycle Start for MDI comes from the standard operating procedures done on commercial CNC machines. We have been following the standards as much as we can! Little hint for you Mach3 guys... "Shift" "Alt" "Enter" will do an MDI execute. I know it is not a simple enter but it is not to far off ... Other fun one you can do is press Alt Enter and you will get Mach4 in full screen.
Tell me when and we will make your machine do whatever you like ;)
Thanks Brian

i am making decent progress. helped to find the manual which was there as you know but i am so fogged out that i miss a lot. i am also a little irritable :) I used to be a nice guy but dealing with life threatening medical uncertainty has turned me into an old nasty shit a lot sooner than my time.
if you have not suffered with viasat you don't understand how handicapped we are. when i see a youtube that offers promise i cringe.
i see a lot in mach 4 that will probably eliminate a number of my customizations. whatever is left i would like to hire someone to migrate.
next challenge is to figure out how to make a axis angular but i can just change my cgode if i can't figure that out. i'm sure it is in the install manual somewhere.

Hello Spencer,
On the screen under the File Ops tab you will see a button that says Help Docs (this will open up the Mach4 Docs directory). Also if that is off the screen you can also go to Help -> Documentation Folder? in the menus at the top of the screen. This will open up the mach4hobby/Docs directory. You will find all the manuals in every install of Mach4.
Thanks
Brian

i just printed them all. i can read them thoroughly tomorrow as i am not the one driving and the whole day is driving and med appointments. it looks like you did a really good job on mach4. it never occurred to me to try the help button because 99% of the time they are not implemented or lead to online shit which i can not access from the shop. i have wifi disabled.

thanks for the offer. i am going to read all the manuals tomorrow, i have tons of waiting time all day. i will then know which custom things i can eliminate. i already have figured out a few and if there is anything i still need i will let you know.
i am getting parts made, i just have to stay glued to the estop with mach3. i was supposed to be able to do other things while making parts but i have lost too many $20 router bits. no big deal if they have made hundreds (record is thousands) of parts but when the break of on the first part that is really annoying. each part takes about 70 seconds to make and sitting there like an idiot with nothing to do is really annoying.
i am licensing mach4 i feel guilty using so much of your time. however i am a really cheap bastard. any coupon codes? is there any reason i might need the commercial version? if i discover i do, can it be upgraded?

We did make a tool to view the settings from Mach3 .. it is an XML reader wizard. That should help you I hope...
Spencer, Tomorrow I will help you get rolling and we will get your parts made. Could you please send me your XML so I can have a look at your settings? I will make a profile for you and get whatever you need working. Also if I I can do anything to help make the machine better for you to use in the process I will do that at the same time.

i can make absolutely no progress with hotkeys and MDI does not work and motor tuning is totally wrong even though it shows correct values. motion when running a program is nuts i must have active highs and lows swapped but ????
has anyone written a tool for using a working mach 3 configuration to set up mach4 with ESS.
now for the truly bizarre.
i noticed this yesterday and immediately estopped but today i decided to let it run and see what happened.
i am running a program that calls a sub many times more than i would ever use it with a tool change to allow for parts change.
when i started after a tool change the motors went through a totally bizarre song and dance. could not recognize the tune. i was sure it would crash but it just undid the strange movement and then acted as if nothing happened.
anyone ever experience this?
and one more request. i have 3800 parts to make and am getting tired of the occasional hiccups with mach3 and really did want to migrate to mach4 but i just can't seem to do it. i am taking heavy drugs for stage 4 prostate cancer and i know my mind is fogged. programming that i could do in my sleep is a serious challenge, i get confused really easily. i also ideally want to get the machine working well enough that i can train someone else to use it when i die which could be soon.

Tell me when and we will make your machine do whatever you like ;)

still have issues with hotkeys. they are all set in the keyboard plugin but nothing works. is there a hidden switch to activate keyboard plugin? i can not find it anywhere. if nothing else i need to do some jogging to test motor tuning signal directions etc.
why is keyboard a plugin and not part of the main program?

What lumber price? We are cutting many thousands of bd ft of good fir to reduce fire hazard and can't give it away, even the madrone and tan oak. We are far out from town, but i pay 5 dollars a bd ft for beech and cherry and have to leave hundreds as much fine wood to rot and turn into co2

People are working on houses like crazy here and they say supply an demand has taken the prices up. We are about at 10.00 for a 2x4! Decking for floors is now over 60.00 a sheet!
The wood prices are rubbish for the wood cutter. Odd times in the wood market for sure around here.

The axis will be whatever units you set it up in. Now you can change how the rollover works and so on. That is on one of the config pages. We are getting ready for a manual update so I know some of the images are not as up to date as they should be. What are you looking for the axis to do? Just a 360 rollover ??

thanks for the offer. i am going to read all the manuals tomorrow, i have tons of waiting time all day. i will then know which custom things i can eliminate. i already have figured out a few and if there is anything i still need i will let you know.
i am getting parts made, i just have to stay glued to the estop with mach3. i was supposed to be able to do other things while making parts but i have lost too many $20 router bits. no big deal if they have made hundreds (record is thousands) of parts but when the break of on the first part that is really annoying. each part takes about 70 seconds to make and sitting there like an idiot with nothing to do is really annoying.
i am licensing mach4 i feel guilty using so much of your time. however i am a really cheap bastard. any coupon codes? is there any reason i might need the commercial version? if i discover i do, can it be upgraded?

Hi Spencer,
Yes it is 100% redone and only has less than 1% of the Mach3 code in it.
I will make a profile for you and get whatever you need working. Also if I I can do anything to help make the machine better for you to use in the process I will do that at the same time.

mach3 ESS
i have been trying to get mach4 to work but it is just too confusing to me. i understand that the program is completely rewritten but why not adhere to some conventions of mach3 as to where to find and set stuff.
i can make absolutely no progress with hotkeys and MDI does not work and motor tuning is totally wrong even though it shows correct values. motion when running a program is nuts i must have active highs and lows swapped but ????
has anyone written a tool for using a working mach 3 configuration to set up mach4 with ESS.
now for the truly bizarre.
i noticed this yesterday and immediately estopped but today i decided to let it run and see what happened.
i am running a program that calls a sub many times more than i would ever use it with a tool change to allow for parts change.
when i started after a tool change the motors went through a totally bizarre song and dance. could not recognize the tune. i was sure it would crash but it just undid the strange movement and then acted as if nothing happened.
anyone ever experience this?
and one more request. i have 3800 parts to make and am getting tired of the occasional hiccups with mach3 and really did want to migrate to mach4 but i just can't seem to do it. i am taking heavy drugs for stage 4 prostate cancer and i know my mind is fogged. programming that i could do in my sleep is a serious challenge, i get confused really easily. i also ideally want to get the machine working well enough that i can train someone else to use it when i die which could be soon.
