Re: stepper stall (to Art)

Isak Levinson

Ok, I tried with acceleration of 1. I'm working with mm so it is 1sec for
1mm/sec. It is VERY slow.
The problem persists.
This is what happens:
The 1st axis accelerates as it should.
When the 2nd axis changes direction, the firts axis stops emidiatly.
The backlash compensates for the 2nd axis (I guess that the compensation
process dose not accelerates and decelerates but startst and stops emidiatly
with the correction velocity).
When the backlash is done the 1st axis imidiatly returns to its previous
velocity.

I think that you may have a problem with the algorithm. Maybe you should
break some moves (which have a direction change) into several seperate
moves.
As I anderstand the CV algorithm defines the way in which the path is
generated at the end of each command.

Thanks, Isak.

Isak:

. You need to decrease your acceleration to about 1 or less to do this
test. Does the axis slow down to stop, then backlash correct, then
accelerate again? I'm just trying to figure out if the algorithms are
working correctly... An acceleration of 10 is NOT small, it means 1 sec to
get to 10 inches per second. While this is not overly fast, it may be too
fast to tell me what I need to know.

Re: stepper stall (to Art)

Isak Levinson

I've set the acceleration to 10 (which is rather small).
Then I issued a "G2 x0y0 i10 j0 f300" command from a x0y0 position.
It was very obvious that there is a sharp stop at each 90 deg.

There was no difference if I issued a G61 or G64 before the command.
Neither was no difference if I set CV on or off in the state menu.

If I turn off the backlash then all is ok.

Thanks, Isak.

Hi Isak:

Can you descibe this better. Is CV mode turned off, does the unit stop at
each 90 degree boundry of the circle? Have you tried setting acceleration
very low to see the effect better?

Constant velocity/Exact stop

cnc_user

Hi Art;

Are the G61 & G64 commands working?
On my machine they don't seem to be working but
setting constant velocity on state page does.

Would it be possible to have a indicator led
that would show when Constant velocity is turned on,
either through setting on state page or with G64
under program control.

Thanks

On mine, all three axis do the verify. Can you double check the status of
the home LED's on the diags page, does all look normal?

What are the Normal and current SpinCounts doing and what does the
netrance trigger say..

The Normal and current Spin Counts are the number of interrupt period
between pulses from your index. They must be getting screwed up to affect
the Spin Adder so badly... Those numbers would be of great interest to
me....

Ouch, that sucks. But your desciption is very helpfull. I'll look in the
code to see what can cause this and let you know what I find. I like the
description of the adder, it will probably lead me to the trouble.

Hi Art
When I click on verify only the z axis moves. X and Y remain
stationary but give out a count.

Re: Test Screen

Hi:

I just uploaded a file called 1024.set as a test screen
layout. It is a simplified test screen of 4 axis and fewer
controls now that primary development is to the point of
cleaning up the screens.

Comments welcome...

Art
www.artofcnc.ca
Art,

It needs the Zero individual axis and Zero All buttons on the jog
screen. It does not need them on the MDI screen. For me the normal use
on a machine without home switches is to jog to the position I want as
the origin and then zero all. I can't do that on this test screen. When
in MDI mode I don't use the zero buttons, but instead do a G92 x0y0z0a0
if I want to zero all.

As I am sure you are aware, I am also not an advocate of having jog on
the program run screen. I will just keep chanting to myself, modal,
modal, modal and deleting buttons as I go.

RC12 Lathe threading test

Steve Blackmore

Hi Art - bit of a disaster testing threading.

Program runs 10 increments, on first it pauses for ages - looking at
thread diags, spind adder climbs into the millions, then goes negative
and spindle starts, but correction is over compensating and it slows
appreciably. On each sucessive attempts it goes slower and slower
until it stops.

Actual spindle speed when not threading is within 10rpm (worst case)
of selected speed.

Hi Art;

Have you given any more thought to being able to execute

Try the Fanuc post. If you have a problem, I should be able to create a
special post.

Hi all,

This is an easy question for all of you. I just purchase a
Visualmill 4.0 from Bob and I need to know the better post to be
used for Mach2. I cant see anything generic in the list.

Thanks for your help.

p.d. I have also tried to find this answer in the other forum
archive but failed.

Luis.
