mach4 is working pretty well for me with just a few annoying
bugs. when you open the program it shows the last jog increment
but it actually has something else stored in memory and if you jog
intending to jog .01" you may jog 1" breaking a cutter. i am not
good at remembering these bugs. i would like to seith to a
dedicated controller but i have my screens and methods all set up
to make life easy for me. i doubt i could make the switch. i am
under treatment for stage 4 cancer and have very little energy and
occasional brain fog. i can only work half days at best and do not
need more work, i want less.

Though from what I understand, this is not actually an

spend any time here at all. Heck, they could call it
"recentfiles.ini" or something that makes sense, right?
I've given up on talking to the Microsoft folks, myself.
Been using their stuff for quite a long time. Hope the
Mach folks don't do the same sorts of idiotic messing
about that MS does.

to
get rid of a file in the list you need to open
machine.ini in the working profile with mach4
closed and delete it and then restart mach4
because it apparently keeps a local file of
machine.ini and writes it back
i
still would like to have mach4 ask if you want
to remove the file from the list if it is not
found, that would serve everyone's needs without
you having to remember the file and edit
yourself while mach4 is closed. i hate these
sorts of work arounds that have to be
remembered. i also would like the most recent
file to be moved to the top of the list as it is
in other programs i use.

some programs
let you clear
the list, eg
in MS Office
you can
right-click
the list and
it'll have a
"Clear

option,
something like
that.
I very much
doubt Mach4
does this,
If the list
does wind up
in the
registry, what
you can do is
delete all of
the files,
then save the
Key (registry
folder) to a
file (will
have a reg
extension).?
If you then
open that file
in the future
it will ask if
you want to
replace the
current Key
with it, thus
clearing the
list.
Oh, and
before I said
to search for
'Values' in
the registry,
should have
said 'Data'.

what

This is a Mach3 USER support group.
Mach3 has been off life support for many, many years.
Spenser's original question?was about Mach4, which is much better supported, at least by a small margin?(!), in their forum.
Tom, long time Mach 3 user who has moved on to Mach4;), however reluctantly! And it works well other than it's darn recent files list!!!

would be in machine.ini.
to get rid of a file in the list you need to open
machine.ini in the working profile with mach4 closed
and delete it and then restart mach4 because it
apparently keeps a local file of machine.ini and
writes it back
i still would like to have mach4 ask if you want to
remove the file from the list if it is not found, that
would serve everyone's needs without you having to
remember the file and edit yourself while mach4 is
closed. i hate these sorts of work arounds that have
to be remembered. i also would like the most recent
file to be moved to the top of the list as it is in

also if there is not good rigidity the bit will chatter and make

the computer, whip something up in Vcarve, , fire up Mach 3 app
and load the gcode and off we go. Have never mod'ed or changed or
adjust anything on the CNC table in 4-5 years (roughly 60-70
projects)
no fiddling involved. also why I haven't bothered upgrading to 4?
as my sys all works just fine (ain't broke don't fix it)

the first thing i did was read RTFM and there was no mention.
then i looked for a file that made sense to hold the file list. it
did not occur to me that it would be in machine.ini.
to get rid of a file in the list you need to open machine.ini in
the working profile with mach4 closed and delete it and then
restart mach4 because it apparently keeps a local file of
machine.ini and writes it back
i still would like to have mach4 ask if you want to remove the
file from the list if it is not found, that would serve everyone's
needs without you having to remember the file and edit yourself
while mach4 is closed. i hate these sorts of work arounds that
have to be remembered. i also would like the most recent file to
be moved to the top of the list as it is in other programs i use.

Windows has a location that it keeps recent files, as does MS
Word, so I would expect Mach does as well. Couldn't tell you any
longer where the previous two keep theirs, and have never run
any version of Mach. Though I expect I could figure it out if I
needed to. I would expect that Mach would keep that listed
updated if you delete those files through Mach, which might help
you. Or maybe not. Windows has changed an awful lot since I
first started playing with it.

Kind of an interesting subject.? Reminds me of an issue with AlibreCAD a while ago.? If one of the files in the history was missing it trashed the entire history.? It has a side by side compare that is still IMHO, unmatched in any other IDE. ? Anyway I renamed one of the files in the history (to make it go away) and then range it again.? The file name was still in the list.? I then tried to load that file and it just loaded a blank document with that name. ? Move forward to Notepad++ (Free text software that handles both linux and dos file formats) that also colours text etc.? Found a file half way in the list.? That's the behavior we want.? We really don't want a file removed from a list because it might be on a dongle that has just been moved to get a copy of an updated gcode file or something else.? Then put the dongle back in and all the files are back.? So only if you try and access the file should it do anything with the history and otherwise it should just fall off the end of the list when it's at the bottom and new files are accessed. ? BTW.? My licensed MACH3 doesn't have a recently used file list. ? And LinuxCNC has the recent files list and throws up an error if you try and load a file on the list that is missing.? Stopping and restarting LinuxCNC does not remove that file from the list.? The only way to get rid of it, short of editing where the list lives, is to let it slip down and off the bottom of the list. ? John ? ?

Yeah, might as well join the Linux forums. ? Your question gets ignored, then if someone does try to answer it a bunch of whiny little man-baby¡¯s turn up to complain about, well, I¡¯ve no idea what their problem is.? Their periods must have synced up or something. ? Tony ? ?

that'll let you clear
the list, not all that
common.
?
i wrote before with no reply. Mach four
maintains a recent
fiels list
but there is no wa
to get rid of old
files. this make a
logn useless
list of current
files mixed with a
bunch of old deleted
stuff. makes it
a pain to choose the
right file. easier
to have a working
folder and do
the management
yourself, where is
this list found and
can it be edited?
or better yet why
cant mach4
automatically delete
files that are nor
found ?
