Squeaking sound

Hi Everyone,

Just got into M17 project.

M17 Module (rev. 0.1e) with mic/speaker Radioddity RS22, connected to FTM-500DE through an home made cable DB9 to Mini-DIN 10. So far, I was able to have two QSOs: 1) over hotspot, reflector M17-M17; and 2) RF, antenna to antenna.

On both QSOs, I found the sound to be frequently squeaking / high pitch.

Any audio setting that I'm missing on M17 module? Anyone with the same experience?

Regards, Anaxi

Hi Anaxi,

There are two possible issues that?I have encountered.

One is the?codec itself. If it does not sound like there are intermittent squeaks, but just distortion to the audio, then it is an artifact of the codec. Some heavily processed audio can do this. I noticed it when converting an ARN (Amateur Radio Newsline) episode MP3 to M17.?It is also possible that some voices do not encode well with Codec2.?You can tell if this is the case by playing a recording -- if the squeaking, high-pitched noise happens at the same place every time, it is an artifact of the codec.

Second, squeaky, high-pitch chirps in the audio stream can be an indication of frame corruption. For some reason, Codec2 seems to add a lot of high-frequency noise when it encounters corrupt frames. I would expect that this is what you are hearing.

Kind Regards,

Check if all the devices actually work on the same frequency. Hotspots can be off quite a bit. What is the OpenRTX version you are running?
