M17 is an open source digital (mostly voice) system for Amateur Radio - see the for more details. Think of DMR, or D-Star, System Fusion, P25, or NXDN but with no dependency on a proprietary digital voice CODEC as all those other systems use. Like D-Star and SF, M17 is specifically designed for use by Amateur Radio Operators, such as using Amateur Radio callsigns as an integral part of the system.
The primary assumption of this mailing list is that M17 is (in June, 2024) in usable (enough) form for actual deployment and usage with Amateur Radio. Typically, to use M17, you'll have to be "somewhat of an experimenter" to work around the inevitable glitches in using M17, but in the opinion of this list founder, "all the pieces are there now".
This is a group to discuss using technology to build out infrastructure to support M17 (such as repeaters) and the discussion of using M17 devices such as radios, adapters, Internet linking, Software Defined Transceivers (and receivers) etc.
Although inevitably there will be discussion of development of M17 - code, firmware updates, etc., this list isn't intended for development of M17 - that work is better discussed on other venues such as Github and Discord that the M17 developers favor.
