] 1. Should the US take the advice of the president of El Salvador? 2. Should the UN disestablish the nation of Israel? 3. Is the US or Argentina running a more balanced budget? 4. Heaviest snow of season 3
I-80 and several ski resorts closed because of too much snow! What happened to that 1500 year drought caused by global warming a few years ago? Ed https://apple.news/AsHSKIRzUQPi5Xlhd9sJg6g

How interesting. We call them "no-show" jobs or "ghost" jobs, and the practice is "featherbedding." It's more likely in the USA to be a mafia-controlled labor union practice than a government job. Ed

What happened to climate change? 37
The "worst drought in recorded history" disappeared-despite the experts (soothsayers) learned predictions. Now we're back to floods and mudslides, as usual, with multi-million dollar homes built on dirt cliffs sliding into the ocean again. How could a consensus of climate experts possibly be wrong?! https://water.ca.gov/-/media/DWR-Website/Web-Pages/Water-Basics/Drought/Files/Publications-And-Reports/091521-Water-Year-2021-broch_v2.pdf

Reagan and Alzheimer's 5
My phone is acting up this morning, dropping messages and losing connections. I don't know whether it's Verizon or Google. Someone posted as a matter of fact that Reagan had Alzheimer's during his presidency. Dave asked for a reference. People didn't like Reagan used to claim it ad a matter of fact, but I've never seem any proof. My recollections of Reagan was that he seemed on the ball and interacted with the press and off script a hell of a lot more than Biden is doing now. I don't recall Reagan sluffing his words or shuffling in his walk or being consigned to the short stairs on Air Force One, while Biden is rapidly declining. How long will it be before Biden needs a walker? Ed https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/ronald-reagan-alzheimers-disease/

There was also something in there about the results being edited by removing one person's group of responses when they were more than two standard deviation from the mean. Second, look at the scatter grams- very poor correlation, even after editing the outliers. That paper is a great example of crap statistics. Ed

Navajo declare moon sacred
The Navajo Nation is complaining that earth's moon is sacred to them, so a spacecraft carrying a trace of human remains there will defile it: https://www.npr.org/2024/01/08/1223377817/navajo-moon-human-remains#:~:text=%22The%20moon%20holds%20a%20sacred,and%20many%20other%20tribal%20nations.%22

BMI as a measure of healthy weight 32
Here's a link to an article from Harvard, and as usual for anything from Harvard, it's half-right, which is better than being all wrong. BMI is flawed and discriminatory, which is the half that is right. BMI only measures two dimensions, and ignores the third, which if you're looking at excessive volume for your height, is the flaw. Some people are thicker than others. Short, pudgy, people can be overweight and still have a BMI of under 25.0, while tall, muscular people, including many professional athletes, will be healthy as hell with a BMI over 25.0. I'm 6'4", and rarely get under 25.0 but ran marathons and finished regularly in the top 10% with a BMI of over 25. BMI does not discriminate against certain races, though some races and cultures tend to vary in body fat. The average BMI for Japanese women is 22.1 while the average BMI for African-American women is 32.2. This is all attributed to diet, though some peoples tend to be stocky and others tend to be skinny. Top African female marathon runners are built like their peers in other races; they all weigh about 1.8 pounds per inch of height. A five foot top female marathoner of any race would weigh about 108 pounds. Micki Gorman, a famous female marathoner in the 1970s, was a half inch above 5 feet and weighed 86 pounds.
