Re: Keystone cancellation

Actually, Canada could produce significantly more oil than we do. The Keystone XL pipeline was expected to allow increased production. Canada's oil patch is in Alberta, and Alberta is landlocked. We have other problems besides the Keystone cancellations, all of them caused by the environmental alarmist industry. We have refineries on the east coast, but Quebec won't allow pipelines to be built across it to get there. Pipelines to the west coast are fought by environmental activist/alarmists, often funded by US organizations. Shipping at west coast ports is restricted, especially oil tankers. Canada has the 3rd largest oil and gas deposits in the world, and can't harvest it because of idiocy over a fake environmental issue. The oil sands produce the cleanest oil available, yet production there is fought by crowds of Hollywood celebrities drunk on self-importance. Canada has a vacuous moron for a Prime Minister, who does everything in his power to shut down the oil and gas industry in Alberta. Building the Keystone pipeline certainly would increase the oil available to the world, lower prices, and reduce the leverage Putin has over other countries. It is the right thing to do.

If you're saying that part of Keystone will be shut down when the additional capacity comes online, so the increase is only 280K/bbl/day, they'll probably keep both going as needed until the Russia shortfall is resolved. Every pipeline, like every mine, is opposed by environmentalists these days, just like every day of bad weather is blamed on climate change. The pipeline wouldn’t increase Canadian production. Canada would still be producing the same amount of oil/day. The 4th part of the Keystone pipeline would have increased the oil coming through the pipeline by 280/day. This “extra” 280/day is already being produced, it is just going to its destination via train or boat, so it takes longer. The pipeline would have increased the efficiency (which should theoretically decrease the cost), but it wouldn’t increase the total amount of oil. At least this is my understanding of it.

Re: Keystone cancellation

Oh you're just trying to bury me in technicalities.? The cancelled pipeline, however specific you want you want me to be about the nomenclature, would have delivered more domestic and Canadian oil to Texas refineries:

"The proposed Phase IV, Keystone XL (sometimes abbreviated KXL, with XL standing for "export limited") Pipeline, would have connected the Phase I-pipeline terminals in?, and?, by a shorter route and a larger-diameter pipe.It would have run through?, where American-produced??from the??() of??and??would have been added?to the Keystone's throughput of??(syncrude) and diluted bitumen () from the??of Canada.

The pipeline became well known when Phase IV KXL attracted opposition from environmentalists, becoming a symbol of the battle over?. In 2015 KXL was temporarily delayed by??. On January 24, 2017, President??took action intended to permit the pipeline's completion. On January 20, 2021, President??signed an??to revoke the permit?that was granted to??for the Keystone XL Pipeline (Phase 4). On June 9, 2021, TC Energy abandoned plans for the Keystone XL Pipeline." -Wikipedia?

Also, the surety of supply coming online soon would depress oil prices.

Also, I didn't say it would solve the energy problems of hundreds of millions of people, but a $1/gallon gas price increase affects hundreds of millions.

No, but my husband and children have. They have used one at our local library, at a science fair we attended, and we have a primitive 3D printer in our house that they have played around with (but is to primitive to be useful.)

?

2.? Do you think Putin will still be the Russian president in five years?

I don’t think so. I expect he will be deposed. Putin is not a religious figurehead in the way that Kim in North Korea is. Russia has powerful groups—the oligarchs, the GRU, the military. Putin’s actions are not serving the interests of these powerful groups, so I think they will take methods to depose him.

?

3.? Do you think the Chinese will attack Taiwan within the next year?

I now doubt it. If you had asked me last year, I would have said fairly likely.
Now, I think 1) China has seen the worlds sanctions on Russia for invading the Ukraine, and China will not want to risk having similar sanctions. And 2) seeing how overstated the Russian military was, I now question how overstated the Chinese military is. I think Winnie the Poo, er Xi, is wise enough to also question that.

4.? Are you disappointed in the news coverage of world events over the last month?

Well, I generally only watch unconventional, alternative news sites, so I’m not really sure how the mass media has been covering world events. I probably would be disappointed, which is why I don’t watch mass media anymore. I am satisfied with the coverage of world events that I’m getting from social media, unconventional, and alternative news sites.

?

5.? Are you looking forward to the next year?

No. I’m pessimistic that things will get better anytime soon, and I think things could get much worse, so better to stay here in 2022 where things aren’t as bad as they might get.

<<1.? Should Putin be charged with war crimes?>>

Absolutely. Will charging him have any? meaningful change? No.

?

<<2.? ?Should Germany restart their nuclear reactors to limit exposure to Russian natural gas?>>

Sounds reasonable. I’m not familiar with Germany’s energy model or why they stopped their nuclear reactors, but certainly anything they can do to replace Russian gas would be a good move.

<<3.? ?Should the Chernobly Nuclear plant be placed under international control?>>

Yes. But will that actually happen? No.
The international judicial system said Russia should withdraw immediately from the Ukraine, that didn’t happen. Russia isn’t going to care if they are told they should let an international workforce take over Chernoble.

4.? Would resuming construction of the Keystone Pipeline? help remediate crude oil prices?

Perhaps internationally….my understanding is the additional barrels of oil would just be passing through the US, going to Mexico, so it wouldn’t help with US prices.

Ed has said “adding 830,000 per day to US coastal refineries”….to clarify, this pipe would carry 830,000 barrels/day….however it is replacing a pipeline that carries 550,000 barrels a day, so the net gain is only 280,000 barrels per day.

5.? Should Biden let the Keystone Pipeline be built?

To clarify, what is called the “Keystone Pipeline” is actually 4 different pipelines/sections. 3 of the 4 were completed and running. The 4th part was stopped due to potential environmental damage, and from what I understand it would have added only 280,000 barrels, and those barrels would not have benefited the US. So given my current understanding of the lack of benefit to the US vs the environmental damage to the US, I would say no, Biden should not let the 4th part of the Keystone Pipeline be finished.

?

Ed had said “Biden should never have halted its construction.? Look at the international mess that his one stupid and unnecessary decision has immediately affected hundreds of millions of middle class people in about 20 countries.”

1.? Harve you ever used a 3D printer?

I have not. I have a mild curiosity that is probably a couple years old.?

2.? Do you think Putin will still be the Russian president in five years?

Good question. I am vacillating.? Not sure. If he succeeds in closing out this war without any drastic actions and spins it right at home, maybe it will be an advance for him. Overall, though, I think he is sliding toward the cliff as he cannot close out the world like was possible in the old days and so the population will hear more than one side. I cannot foresee any huge economic gains that might appease the mob. I suspect the present course is increasingly a suicide run for him.

3.? Do you think the Chinese will attack Taiwan within the next year?

I think it is likely they will make some play. So far, they have been cunningly applying The Art of War patiently and I wonder if they will need to attack.?

Not really. The special interest spin is so ingrained into "new" programming I just expect it as normal.?

1.? Should Putin be charged with war crimes?

Yes, as should Assad, though it would only be symbolic.

2.? ?Should Germany restart their nuclear reactors to limit exposure to Russian natural gas?

Of course; and they should return to burning coal as well.

3.? ?Should the Chernobly Nuclear plant be placed under international control?

I don't believe that's feasible, and I worry more about the six Chinese nuclear plants operating in Pakistan.

4.? Would resuming construction of the Keystone Pipeline? help remediate crude oil prices?

Of course; prices are partially based on speculation, and adding 830,000 barrels per day to US coastal refineries will help the US, Canadian, and European economies.

Biden should never have halted its construction.? Look at the international mess that his one stupid and unnecessary decision has immediately affected hundreds of millions of middle class people in about 20 countries.?

If the bodies empowered to investigate such things present sufficient evidence?to justify the? action? Certainly of he is flouting and transgressing boundaries internationally. agreed to.

I do not think so. Eight months to reactivate according to supporters? In that amount of time, we could build better alternatives with faster graduated activations and staff them.

No. Practicality should be considered when easing fossil fuels out of social use but this is not a practical solution to the situation.
