Keystone cancellation
Ed had said “Biden should never have halted its construction.? Look at the international mess that his one stupid and unnecessary decision has immediately affected hundreds of millions of middle class people in about 20 countries.”
I think this is quite hyperbolic. 280,000 barrels/day is miniscule in the grand scheme of oil, and by no means would solve the energy problems of hundreds of millions of people.? Rhonda 830,000 barrels per day is a lot. ?Venezuela only produces about 900,000, and it's a major exporter. We're talking exports, not usage. ? If you're saying that part of Keystone will be shut down when the additional capacity comes online, so the increase is only 280K/bbl/day, they'll probably keep both going as needed until the Russia shortfall is resolved. ?Every pipeline, like every mine, is opposed by environmentalists these days, just like every day of bad weather is blamed on climate change. ?If the world didn't need the oil, there wouldn't be any profit in building the pipeline. |

1. ?Have you ever used a 3D printer?
No.
2. ?Do you think Putin will still be the Russian president in five years?
Putin will be eligible for election in 2024, and this question will be easier to answer then. Right now I doubt he will be still president in 5 years.
3. ?Do you think the Chinese will attack Taiwan within the next year?
I doubt it since China lacks the military capability.
4. ?Are you disappointed in the news coverage of world events over the last month?
I am disappointed in the news coverage most of the time.
5. ?Are you looking forward to the next year?

Re: Friday Five March 18
I have not. I have a mild curiosity that is probably a couple years old.?
Good question. I am vacillating.? Not sure. If he succeeds in closing out this war without any drastic actions and spins it right at home, maybe it will be an advance for him. Overall, though, I think he is sliding toward the cliff as he cannot close out the world like was possible in the old days and so the population will hear more than one side. I cannot foresee any huge economic gains that might appease the mob. I suspect the present course is increasingly a suicide run for him.
I think it is likely they will make some play. So far, they have been cunningly applying The Art of War patiently and I wonder if they will need to attack.?
Not really. The special interest spin is so ingrained into "new" programming I just expect it as normal.?
Yes. I am not dead yet. If the year is deadly, I will not have to worry about it.? |

No - I think in general they are expensive gimmicks with limited utility 2.? Do you think Putin will still be the Russian president in five years? I seriously doubt it - I wouldn't give him even odds of living through the next year 3.? Do you think the Chinese will attack Taiwan within the next year? Hard to say - they are unpredictable 4.? Yes, as should Assad, though it would only be symbolic. 2.? ?Should Germany restart their nuclear reactors to limit exposure to Russian natural gas? Of course; and they should return to burning coal as well. 3.? ?Should the Chernobly Nuclear plant be placed under international control? I don't believe that's feasible, and I worry more about the six Chinese nuclear plants operating in Pakistan. 4.? Would resuming construction of the Keystone Pipeline? help remediate crude oil prices? Of course; prices are partially based on speculation, and adding 830,000 barrels per day to US coastal refineries will help the US, Canadian, and European economies. 5.? Should Biden let the Keystone Pipeline be built? Biden should never have halted its construction.? Look at the international mess that his one stupid and unnecessary decision has immediately affected hundreds of millions of middle class people in about 20 countries.? No educated opinion specific to Germany. Certainly I think there are better?alternatives to renewable? energy generation, though.
More so than any other nuclear site? WHyhy? It is actually more stable than active reactors, I think? I do think that avoiding "accidents" should be a high international priority.?
I do not think so. Eight months to reactivate according to supporters? In that amount of time, we could build better alternatives with faster graduated activations and staff them.
No. Practicality should be considered when easing fossil fuels out of social use but this is not a practical solution to the situation. I would suggest his public image be substantially more assertive? about the alternatives. I feel confused about what effective, timely alternative he is proposing.?_._,_._,_ |

Re: Friday Five Feb 25
1. Should horses be used by police to break up crowds of non armed protestors? Horses are frequently used for crowd control and are usually quite well suited to that work. The difference in Ottawa was in the way they were used, and probably more than that, the makeup of the crowd. This was not a young, drunk, disorderly mob such as they might have to control following a sporting event or rock concert. The protest group included elderly people, children, disabled people. And they were just standing still, sometimes singing the National Anthem, sometimes praying, sometimes telling the police officers in front of them that they loved them. The officers rode the horses right into the crowd, probably expecting them to scatter and probably unaware that a disabled woman on a mobility scooter was among them. But they lied after, saying anyone knocked over had walked away, no one was injured, and even claiming that someone among the protesters threw a bicycle at the horses, causing one to trip. In fact, the woman on the scooter was knocked over and trampled, and spent some time in the hospital because of it. Another person was also knocked down; I don't know whether she was injured. And the "bicycle" was the mobility scooter, not thrown but knocked over along with its disabled rider. The whole thing was an absolute disgrace. 2. How in your own commentaries do you separate fact from opinion? Commentaries are always opinion. 3. Do you think people who might offend again if released on bail should be denied bail? Depends on what they are charged with. The guy who drove through the Santa Claus parade in - was it Wisconsin? - should not have been out on bail, after a domestic violence incident. But Tamara Lich, organizer of the Freedom Convoy, should have been granted bail. She was only charged with mischief. None of the arrested protesters were charged with anything more than mischief. Yet Tamara Lich is still in prison, more than a week after her arrest. Note that the judge who denied her bail ran for the Liberal party in a federal election a few years ago. The Liberal corruption reaches its tentacles into everything. 4. Do you think the sanctions imposed against Russia are going to have any effect? Not unless they impose some with teeth. 5. Is Justin Trudeau in violation of the Canadian Charter or Rights? Yes. Freezing the bank accounts of people who donated even small sums to a cause that was perfectly legal was a violation of the Charter. Arresting people who were protesting peacefully and legally was a violation. Invoking the Emergencies Act for a clearly trivial reason may have been a violation of the Charter and may also have been illegal. At least 3 organizations are continuing with their legal challenges to invoking the Act, Trudeau is going to have to answer for it in court. It may result in criminal charges. Pat ?????? |
