Probably so but exactly how is not obvious.? He did a? lot of great things after he left the White House, but also did some inncredibly stupid ones as well - most notoriously getting involved in diplomatic negotiations. 2.? Should obesity treating drugs that cost substantial amounts be covered by insurance? I really don't know.? I have one friend who has been using them for about six months and has apparently lost about thirty five lb - though she has another hundred to go before she gets down to a healhty weight.? The biggest question is what happens if the user don't change their eating and exercise habits, as well as what happens if they quit taking the drugs. 3.? What was the biggest oops of the last year? I think maintaining that BIden was as sharp as ever - though from some reports I have seen he was never regarded as the the sharpest knife in the drawer 4.? What was the biggest lie of the year? That Biden was not cognitively challenged. 5.? Do you think the Las Vegas incident was related to the New Orleans incident? I don't know and doubt we will ever rind out.? There is one unconfrimed report that the driver committed suicide, but only one and that is not from a reliable source.? 开云体育There's certainly no need for it to change. He was a great example of humanity. Yes, if they are being used to treat a life-threatening condition. It would help to have a category for this because there were so many. Boeing had a lot of oopses. So did Tesla. That electing Trump would result in lower prices. No, not at all. Aloha, Celeste |
Re: Friday Five Jan 3
1.? Will the reputation of Jimmy Carter change now that he has died? I imagine it will continue to evolve in the usual manner as the?narrative adapts?to new times, perspectives and needs. 2.? Should obesity treating drugs that cost substantial amounts be covered by insurance? I suppose not, although the?U.S. citizenry?has been manipulated?into a consumer role over many decades now. When the populace?was overwhelmingly young and healthy, we needed to farm them as prodigious eaters and users of pharm to profit as deeply as possible off them. As the adverse effects of the short-sighted profiteering binge became apparent in the form of lifestyle diseases in an aging population, the money began to flow backwards and the healthcare insurers dug in their heels. Now we have a topheavy and tottering healthcare structure over-invested in everything?from school?loans to insulin to litigation. The attendant obesity is a direct result of marketing candy and tobacco and huge dinner portions. While some have attempted to invest in weight loss in order to pull in the reins on the financial avalanche?until the inconsiderate Baby Boomers die off the insurance dole, many corporate entities seem to be of a mind to wipe hands and let the public look after itself. Attrition will eventually erode the problem away. As a nurse, I prefer healthy?lifestyles to further pharmacological profiteering. This course would also have the advantage?of promoting cognitive coping skills resistant to consumer farming, perhaps moving us away from?our Matrix pods in the future. As has been mentioned, though, this would be a harder course for many and whether we could stay it depends a lot on what our core values are nowadays. 3.? What was the biggest oops of the last year? I still have not seen any zombies even as extreme weather, dire environmental?predictions, terrorist incidents, expanding global warfare, spreading infrastructure failures, escalating disease outbreaks, devolving?social cohesion and ridiculous?grocery totals consume the planet. I am disappointed and consider this to be an oops in the Plan. ("Zombies" is a term I love to use for humanoid social?germs such?as predatory criminal gangs, hordes of disease victims, rampaging rioters or displaced foraging multitudes. I am being facetious, of course, but I do feel that any tipping point of social decay will evidence significant numbers of one or all of these. Haiti comes to mind...) 4.? What was the biggest lie of the year? There is no danger to the public at this time... 5.? Do you think the Las Vegas incident was related to the New Orleans incident? If not directly, there is still an obvious link through the day-and-times route. They are part of The New Normal. |

I understand that Nixon was involved in something?related, but I did not read in detail.
Actually there were major questions about the 1960 election but Nixon did not advocate contesting the results. ?
That absurd Politico article that was posted earlier making it sound like Nixon tried to overturn Kennedy's legitimate election is sloppy revisionism.? LBJ's cronies literally stole his election to the Senate in 1948, and Mayor Daley's political machine stole Nixon's victory in Illinois.? The Texas Democrats were so corrupt at that time that Kennedy's win in that state is likewise suspicious.
?
Robert Caro is one of the best biographers ever, and he's written four- of a planned five-volume biography of LBJ, and is a much more reputable source on LBJ and Texas politics at that time than David Greenburg, who is a biased liberal revisionist. Caro summed up his thoroughly researched opinion as: "stole it--and in the stealing violated even the notably loose boundaries of Texas politics."
?
The political group that tried to overturn an election in this century was the Democratic party, which kept forcing recounts in Florida's results to overturn Bush's victory in Florida in 2000.? The Supreme Court finally stepped in when Al Gore was trying to force yet another recount that left out swaths of Bush votes.? Had he succeeded, it would have been the most recent stolen presidential election since 1960.

开云体育No. Why wait for a new year to make resolutions. Make them when you need to. Yes. I might retire next year. Yes. Nixon and his cronies took a shot at it. It's hard to say. Re: Friday Five Dec 27
1.? Are you making New Year's resolutions? Probably; I just have to think them through a little, though. 2.? Are you looking forward to the new year? Oddly, yes.? It may be worse than the one just ended, except that the political instability should even out.? The Democrats made a mess of the past election, and now they are more subdued. 3.? 2021 was characterized by Jan 6 "insurrection".? Has a political group previously tried to overturn a presidential election? I don't recall the details, but I recently read John Grinspan's "The Age of Acrimony," which covered elections from 1865-1915, and demonstrated that things were contentious and polarized then as well as they are now.? There have been fights over delegate certification in previous elections when more than one slate of delegates would be sent to the Electoral College and there were fights over which slate should get recognized, as well as deals that were cut, which on one occasion resulted in the losing candidate becoming president. 4.? Elon Musk is advocating unlimited visas for technologically talented individuals - is this a good idea? It depends on what you mean by "unlimited" and "technologically talented." ?I went back to grad school at Columbia (NYC) engineering school in 2004 for the hell of it, and there were very few domestic students; most were from China or India or somewhere like that.? They were smart, but I don't know how many stayed or went back to where they came from or what happened to them all.? There's always the problem with giving away too much technology.? About then, I met a Russian attending a technical conference in New York, and he spent his time in the university libraries copying everything in his field he could get his hands on.? He picked my brain on the technical aspects of my field, and I told him very little, but it was obvious why he was visiting the USA. 5.? Did you travel more than fifty?miles this holiday season? No; I strained my back upon arrival in our winter home, and haven't been able to travel or work out very hard for the past two months.? I'm recovering, but it's going to take another month before?I get on an airplane. On Thu, Dec 26, 2024 at 5:58?PM mrvnchpmn via <chapman=[email protected]> wrote:
