Re: Friday Five Feb 25
By trained and skilled riders, I would consider the situation. Like any tool, judiciously, as long as there is no unusual level of danger to horse, rider or protestor. The real question is whether there is a need to break up non-armed protestors in the situation being discussed.
Yes. I try, anyway.?
Yes. I understand the logistics, but I am a bit of a backcountry?hard-liner with my opinions on this:? if they are released and they do offend, victims and citizens have the right to stop the offender. That right should be protected by the society in question.
There are hopeful? news commentaries?and indications, but I feel wary. Options that could change the dynamics may exist, such as new Russia-China economic agreements? I am no economic expert.
I can't?say as I am not familiar with? the country's relevant laws?and values. |

No No Yes I didn't see them all, but didn't like any that I saw. Satire usually comes from satire sites, but even when it doesn't it's usually easy to tell due to its silliness. Aloha, Celeste |
Wag the Dog movie
I am surprised and horrified that no one remembers the movie Wag the Dog. It was about creating reality by the use of greenscreen.? A politician wanted to create an uproar about attrocities in a foreign country so an alternative reality was created - showed exactly how. Reminds me way too much of what is going on with Ukraine today. Marvin |

No.

Yes, of course.

Re: Friday Five February 18
No?
Not exactly, but I have moved to a lower-impact per-diem nursing job because I spent a year in a nursing home during this pandemic. I was helped along because the nursing home found some fulltime and parttime nurses, though, reducing its need for per-diem staff.?
Duh. Every character typed. ?
DId not see the Bowl or the ads.?
I cruise the Internet, comparing different reporting perspectives and? associated?studies or other clues in order to distill points or facts that seem fundamental to the situation. Beyond that, I make no claims.

Friday Five February 11
1. Are you watching the Olympics? Some but not a lot. I miss the audiences, and really, really hate seeing athletes trying to catch their breath after a competition with a big stupid useless mask on their faces. 2. Have you ever engaged in an act of civil disobedience? No. Unless I can count the jean strike in grade 9. Back when I started High School girls were still required to wear dresses to school, and boys to wear dress pants. Of course we all wanted to wear jeans instead. Within the first couple of weeks of my first term in school, the seniors organized a jean strike, where on a chosen Friday every student in school arrived in jeans. They couldn't suspend all of us. Very shortly after that the school dropped its dress requirements and we all wore jeans for the rest of our school years. The same principle still works; look at the all the people who arrived in Ottawa carrying jerry cans as soon as the Law banned delivering fuel to the truckers. That rule didn't stand up for very long. 3. Should vaccine passports be required at major conventions? Of course not. Vaccine passports and mandates are completely useless. Getting a vaccine protects only the one person who got the shot, it has no effect on anyone else. So whether or not you decide that the benefits outweigh the risks for you and choose to get the shot is nobody else's business. 4. How long can you last without items hauled by commercial truck? Quite a while, but it would be inconvenient, and I might have to live on oatmeal and rice. Canada depends on the USA to ship in fresh fruits and vegetables in winter, so those would disappear very quickly. I haven't been driving a lot in the last 2 years; a tank of gas lasts me about 4 months and I just filled up, so no problem there. Could make direct arrangements with local farms for meat and dairy. Might be interesting. A good way to wean us all off Amazon. 5. Who is the most irritating politician you have seen this week? Justin Trudeau. Not just irritating but also infuriating, disgusting, appalling. Thankfully, his stubbornly stupid behaviour over the last 3 weeks is opening the eyes of people who hadn't seen before what he is really like. They are finally seeing him for the immature, arrogant, incompetent, treasonous little weasel that he really is. Last poll I saw only 16% of Canadians would still want him to be Prime Minister. Pat |

Re: Friday Five February 11
No. Too busy and never was much of a sporting spectator.?
I have not. I would, but I have never been much of a demonstrator, either. Don't get out much--funny statement from someone?building a skoolie, I guess.?
No. There are endless reservoirs for infection now, both human and non-human, and unvaccinated people mostly hurt themselves except for over-utilizing?healthcare resources. That would be better addressed by adjusting health insurance and services availability than by draconian exclusiveness.
Gimme a few more weeks to finish my RV and maybe I could get by for a few years or a lifetime.?
President Biden is confusing me to the point of irritation. I read a headline saying we would make military support? available for emergency evacuation of U.S.?citizens from Ukraine were that step to ever be necessary. Then comes a new headline a day later saying we cannot do that as it would start a world war. I believe public figures on that level should deliver measured messages with consistent actions. Otherwise they are contributing to social instability and chaos. Just my opinion. |
