? 1.? Will Biden resign before January?
Question of the year - it would notr surprise me 2.? If he resigns - will Harris give him a blanket pardon? I think it would be part of the bargain if he did? Her political career at the national level is toast so she has nothing to lose. 3.? Who is the most significant politician in the world today? I don't know but I would think mayb e Uptin - he certainly is the one with the most to lose and the most to use. 4.? Who is the most insignificant politician in the world today? Right now Joe Biden - though he apparently returned from vacation this morning. 5.? What do you see at the most dangerous political situation in the world today? The Middle East - just as has been for the last seventy five years., .?? |
Re: Friday Five December 20
1.? Will Biden resign before January 20? I am not sure why he would? I probably missed something in the news, right? He is just sitting quietly, under the radar, ticking off things he can accomplish?to exit in due time far more gracefully than a resignation would suggest. He can leave a professional legacy that is more palatable for his family just by waiting it out in comfort. Except for a few drones and some weather issues... 2.? If he resigns - will Harris give him a blanket pardon? For? 3.? Who is the most significant politician in the world today? Elon? I mean, that is a broad question but why not point at the world's richest man and his sudden rise to Earthside power. He certainly has a head start off-planet! 4.? Who is the most insignificant politician in the world today? Again, so broad.?
Bashar al-Assad? We should give credit for losing an entire country due to running an army that specializes?in retreat...
5.? What do you see as the most dangerous political situation in the world today? The determination of the Axis powers to frame global equality as a war between East and West. Not that many Western?powers do not also demonize certain Eastern regimes or groups, but there seems to be a lot of rhetoric on the Eastern side to demand destruction of certain Western nations or other groups.? |

Re: Friday Five December 13
. 1.? Were you surprised by the deposal of Assad in Syria? Surprised that it happened so quickly. Surprised that it happened at all, with the support he had from Iran and Russia. ? 2.? Which world leader do you think will be the next to be deposed? The Islamist regime in Iran seems ripe for it. They have been massively weakened by the loss of Hezbollah, Hamas, and now Syria and all of Syria's weapons. The people of Iran have wanted them gone for a very long time. Israel has already taken out some of their own weapons, and their ability to detect approaching attacks. Now is the time to do it. It is absolutely imperative for the survival of the world that Iran does not get nuclear weapons. The best way to prevent that is to do away with the regime.? ? 3.? Should drugs be decriminalized / and or sold over the counter - especailly opiate pain relievers? Good Lord no. Getting hooked on opioids would lead to a far worse life than living with pain.? ? 4.? ?Were you surprised that Trump was named Person of the Year by Time Magazine? Yes. Not because he didn't deserve it, but because all those magazines are run by leftists who ignore Mr Trump. He should have won a Nobel Peace Prize for the Abraham Accords, but his accomplishments were not even reported by the MSM. ? ?5. Unidentified drones have been flying over New Jersey and New York.? What should the governments response to this be and which part of which government should have the atuhority to intervene? You have a Dept. of Homeland Security do you not? This would seem to be the time to use them. Who knows where they came from or what they might do? Just leaving them alone seems very risky. ? Pat

Re: Friday Five December 6
. 1.? Hunter Biden pardon ? ? Was that who he pardoned for Thanksgiving? Thought it was usually a turkey ... ? 2.? Did it surprise you? ? Not really. This guy will do anything. ? 3.? Was it ethical? ? Does not seem so, but I don't know the rules. ? 4.? Who else will he pardon? ? Himself? There's talk of him pre-emptively pardoning everyone he's had breaking the law for him, which would seem to include the entire FBI, DOJ, and Democrat Party. Seems like an obvious admission of guilt. Is it even allowed? ? 5.? Should the power to pardon be removed from presidents who are lame duck? ? What difference does that make? The whole idea of granting pardons is bizarre and anachronistic. Another indication that the position of President in your system is based on the King in mine. But is stuck in some earlier century when the King had absolute power. Back then he could pardon anyone he pleased. I don't think he can anymore.? ? Pat

Re: Friday Five December 13
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNot entirely. It's about time Assad ran away. Hopefully it will be Nicol¨¢s Maduro. Decriminalized, yes. Sold over the counter, definitely not. Not really. It's not necessarily an honor. It's just about who has influenced the world. After all, the following individuals have also been Time's Person of the Year: Joseph Stalin (1939, 1942); Nikita Khrushchev (1957); Yuri Andropov (1983); and Mikhail Gorbachev (1987, 1989); Adolf Hitler (1938); Deng Xiaoping (1978, 1985); Chiang Kai-shek (1937); Ruhollah Khomeini (1979). Caution is the correct response. Who knows what those drones might harbor. Aloha, Celeste Rogers |
Re: Friday Five December 13
1.? Were you surprised by the deposal of Assad in Syria? A little.? I would have expected a move on an Allied?country by the Terrorist Axis, but now? am getting the impression (without deep exploration) that the incoming regime?may be more actively?radical than?the lethargic outgoing folks. Inn other words, maybe the Axis is firming up its foundation as the world prepares for mutual destruction. 2.? Which world leader do you think will be the next to be deposed? Pakistan has been kinda ho-hum based upon its media impact... 3.? Should drugs be decriminalized / and or sold over the counter - especially opiate pain relievers? The whole system is kinda topheavy and more than?a little focused on special interest profiteering. I think regulation for safety is vital, yet punishing those who could benefit from a given medication because others have used that same med recreationally or as chemical coping is a very inefficient outcome. Now we have created an?entire criminal culture based on the approach. If some people?want to be hopeless stoned drones, it is probably cheaper to let them ride it out. Thos who can function get food and?housing, those who cannot will? have a rougher time of things. 4.? ?Were you surprised that Trump was named Person of the Year by Time Magazine? Did not even know it had happened. It? seems to me to be kind of trivial. 5. Unidentified drones have been flying over New Jersey and New York.? What should the government's response to this be and which part of which government should have the authority to intervene? According to the growing body of evidence, the drones are unidentified of type or manufacturer as well as to operator, owner or logistics. They are apparently larger than the typical hobbyist models. They fly with lighting, although not necessarily in the form of legal running lights, which is turned off when they are?pursued. Since they takeoff and landing?locations? have not been pinpointed, various air?control radars or military imaging options have apparently been ineffective. They have been reliably reported over military installations, infrastructure nodes (such as reservoirs) as well as population?centers. The highest number of simultaneous sightings has been over?100 as best I can glean from media. Almost none of this is reliable enough that I would bet my wallet on it, but the official government statements support multiple sightings of unidentified craft in public?and restricted airspace and that? not one single craft has been captured?or categorized beyond each being a "drone." In fact, the officials seem surprisingly blase about the response given the historic military responses to foreign aircraft?incursions and balloon sightings. That feels fishy. As for talk of haphazard efforts to shoot down the drones, we should remember that there are good?reasons we do not fire our rifles into the sky. Not only do bullets eventually fall? to gravity, but disabled aircraft do as well! This does not bode well for the hapless?humans below, not to mention the wildfire risks and the possibility of totally harmless legally?operating craft taking fire from Joe Beer and his $5k .50 sniper rifle! They also may be U.S. craft being tested or some such, although doing so over densely populated areas would seem criminally?irresponsible. Or perhaps they are the airwing of a new breakout AI taking over the world! Next will finally come the zombies! As for what part of government, this project seems?tailored to an FAA investigation. ? |

? 1.? Were you surprised by the deposal of Assad in Syria?
?
?
Yes; I didn't realize that his position was that fragile or that the remaining opposition was that powerful.
2.? Which world leader do you think will be the next to be deposed? ?
Netanyahu, if you can call him a world leader.? Otherwise perhaps Macron.? I don't think that Iran, Russia, or China will depose their leader.
3.? Should drugs be decriminalized / and or sold over the counter - especailly opiate pain relievers? ?
Highly-addictive drugs should not be sold over?the counter.? Legal alcohol, nicotine, and cannabis?are bad enough to deal with.? We don't need to add to the problem.
4.? ?Were you surprised that Trump was named Person of the Year by Time Magazine? ?
Not at all.? Person of the year is not a good achievement award; it is awarded for the person who was most prominent during the previous year.? Adolf Hitler was Time's Man of the Year in 1938.
5. Unidentified drones have been flying over New Jersey and New York.? What should the governments response to this be and which part of which government should have the atuhority to intervene? ?
The FAA regulates drones, but I don't know how big these drones are, or whether they're just a bunch of the type of drones sold at Costco.? I've heard that it's a federal crime to shoot down a drone hovering outside your bathroom window, but I have a hard time believing that.
?
Depending on the drone, it could be a military or a state police, county sheriff, or local police issue.
Apparently a New Jersey police helicopter had to land because a 6' diameter drone was hovering over it.? That sounds liek aggressoin worthy of response - even a 6' drone would be serverely damaged by a couple fo rounds off 000 buckshot at close range. ? ?

1.? Were you surprised by the deposal of Assad in Syria?
Very much so - even more surprising than the collapse of the South Vietnamese in 1975. 2.? Which world leader do you think will be the next to be deposed? Two hopeful candidaates are Putin and the Ayatolla of Iran - but I think the most likely to leave is Biden - get Harris in long enough to give him a pardon for everything he has done in the last thirty years - though child abuse is not a federal crime. 3.? Should drugs be decriminalized / and or sold over the counter - especially opiate pain relievers? I think so - I have friends who hare in chronic long term pain who can't get even low level opiates. 4.? ?Were you surprised that Trump was named Person of the Year by Time Magazine? Absolutely - though after everything else I don't know who else they could have hamed. 5. Unidentified drones have been flying over New Jersey and New York.? What should the government's response to this be and which part of which government should have the authority to intervene? The federal government should give states and local jurisdictions the right to defend their own airspace.? And letting private individuals shoot down the low flying ones would be a good idea.? The worst thing the federal government can do is sent a 30 million dollar airplane and a 2 million dollar missile after a one thousand dollar drone - a policemen in a traffic helicopter using a 12 gauge shotgun at close range would work? just as well.? For the bigger ones - a proximity rounded 20 mm can be used as well. ? ? --? |

1.? Hunter Biden pardon ?
Many layer to this.? Pardoning him prevents him from going to prison - which was realistically unlikely to be for long but which may have given a prosecutor enough leverage to bring down the entire Biden empire.. 2.? Did it surprise you?.. Not at all - though I wonder whether he actually wrote the paradon himself - if would be really interesting if it turns out to be sutosigned> 3.? Was it ethical? Emphaticaklly not - oardons are usually intended for people who have been convicted without any evidence.? Hunter simply got a get out of jail free card for everything he did for the last eleven years - though only on federal charges. 4.? Who else will he pardon? Very? likely more? members of his familly 5.? Should the power to pardon be removed from presidents who are lame duck? It should be considrered but would require a constitutional eamendment |
Re: Friday Five December 6
1.? Hunter Biden pardon? Surprising myself, I approve. They told Joe not to run, made him back out of the public eye, ridiculed him and applied political angles to everything in his life. Were it me and I was in my final months at the job and my final years of life, I would pardon my son. If the kid screws it up, that his the kid's problem, but if I am possible facing dementia and the Final Years, it might be the last meaningful gift I can leave my family. After all, what the hell do they have left to do to me? 2.? Did it surprise you? Yes. After all that public commitment to avoid this? Of course, that is politics... 3.? Was it ethical? Nepotism and bypassing the legal?sentence? Probably not, but like I said: morality and family vs. ethical guidelines of a job that has gifted him with ridicule and ostracization? 4.? Who else will he pardon? Possibly others whose cases may have been influenced by politics?
5.? Should the power to pardon be removed from presidents who are lame duck? Not based on?one case unless there is a dangerous abuse of power.
