. 1.? Should the US take the advice of the president of El Salvador? I don't know what advice you mean. But El Salvador recently banned gender ideology from schools, and that is a very good thing indeed. All western countries should do the same. 2.? Should the UN disestablish the nation of Israel? Of course not. Why would you even suggest such a thing? Israel was brutally attacked by savage, sub-human terrorists, and your answer is to disestablish Israel?? Should the USA have ?been disestablished because it was attacked on September 11? After being attacked, the USA went after Al Qaeda and then ISIS. It killed a substantial number of innocent civilians in the process. Yet the world did not try to stop it, and in fact even joined in and helped. Hamas is arguably worse than both Al Qaeda and ISIS, and the October 7 attack was worse than September 11. But when Israel goes after Hamas, the whole world jumps up and down and yells - Ceasefire! Proportionality! Innocent Civilians! You would have to look hard to find any innocent civilians in Gaza. Hamas planned the attack and broke in to Israel, but many civilians followed them in, and joined the frenzy of looting, raping and murdering. The invaders carried the broken bodies of innocent young girls back to Gaza with them, and paraded them through the streets in the back of trucks, while the "innocent civilians" laughed and cheered and ran beside them. The whole world should join with Israel to rid the world of Hamas, and as many of those sort of civilians as possible. If the UN wants to disestablish anything, perhaps they should stop the Arabs from invading, occupying and destroying other countries. They have done that to more than 50 countries from India through northern Africa, including Palestine. They continue to slaughter non-Muslims all across Africa, around the edges of Pakistan, and into Europe, in addition to in Israel. This is not an Israel problem. This is an Arab/Muslim problem, and it is a problem for the entire world. Israel just happens to be on the front line. 3.? Is the US or Argentina running a more balanced budget? Argentina's awesome new President has already produced a balanced monthly budget. The US hasn't had a balanced budget of any kind in a very long time. The US, and Canada, and many other countries should be watching and listening to Mr. Javier Milei, and learning how to run a country correctly. 4.? Why was there no Nobel Peace Prize awarded in 1948? I don't know. 5.? Should the government be allowed to use cell phone location data from private sources as a way of tracking people? No. Pat

Back in my day, we knew how to deal with all this silly violence!

1.? Are you concerned about the death of Alexy Navaly in a Russian prison camp at the age of 47 - he survived an assassination attempt with poison before.
It is disturbing, and I¡¯m certain his death was not accidental or from natural causes (well possibly natural causes from being mistreated for so long.) But concerned? I wouldn¡¯t say I¡¯m concerned. Navaly¡¯s death was not unexpected, and he himself knew that when he voluntarily returned to Russia.
2.? Wgat was the greatest chimera of the 20th century?
Venus the 2 faced cat? I¡¯m probably not getting what your question is actually about.
3.? Are you concerned about the Russian threat to use nuclear weapons on western allies if they are losing in the war in Ukraine?
Mildly. I don¡¯t doubt Putin would like, and is crazy enough, to use nuclear weapons, but I think that even his staunchest underlings know at best, this action would lead to mutual destruction. I trust that Putin has enough sane underlings, that they would never carry out an order from Putin to use nuclear weapons.
4.? What are you planning to do for St Patricks Day?
I had to check, I do have the day off work. I doubt I will do anything special. I use to like to make a corn beef dish on St. Patrick¡¯s day, but corned beef has been to hard to find for the past several years.
5.? Is your local economy improving, falling, or remaining the same?|
I think overall it is improving, however illicit drug use is increasing. Many illicit drug users are employed due to the economy being strong. But there are many drug users unable to maintain employment, and homelessness is increasing because of this. I also suspect that my area has become a hub for drug users from other areas to move to (perhaps because of lower cost of living, and its easier for them to get a job.) So its kind of a mixed bag, I do think my local economy is improving by many measures, but the increased homelessness, begging, and drug use, shows that the may not be that secure.
1.? Should the US take the advice of the president of El Salvador?
I had heard a blurb about what the president of El Salvador said, but now I don¡¯t remember what he said. I remember thinking it was good advice hypothetically speaking, but not practically helpful.
2.? Should the UN disestablish the nation of Israel?
No, and what would it solve if they did? People can debate on what should/could have been done differently in 1948 or in 1967. Just like they can debate any number of things in history that should/could have been done differently. The reality is, the Israel people exist, and the Palestine people exist. Israel is not going away, and in spite of the huge humanitarian crisis on the Gaza strip right now, Palestinian people aren¡¯t going away either. It is in everyone¡¯s interests if Israel and Palestine learn to co-exist peacefully¡..but it does appear the leadership of both countries/areas have a vested interest in not co-existing peacefully.
3.? Is the US or Argentina running a more balanced budget
Not sure, I know the US budget is pretty unbalanced, I don¡¯t know about the Argentina budget. I suspect the US has more assets than Argentina (GDP, oil and other natural reserves, etc.) to off-set the unbalancedness of the US budget.
4.? Why was there no Nobel Peace Prize awarded in 1948?
Not a clue. Did the Nobel Peace Prize even exist in 1948?
5.? Should the government be allowed to use cell phone location data from private sources as a way of tracking people?
Use, with a proper warrant. But I think this is already allowed with a warrant?

<<No more or less than the weaponization of the US Department of Justice - an oxymoron if I have ever seen one!>>
This is a talking point of Trump¡¯s, but he has given zero evidence of this. Seems to me the opposite is true, the US Department of Justice is bending over backwards treating Trump with kid gloves. If anyone else had been accused of even half the stuff the Trump has been accused of ?(some of which he has publicly admitted to doing¡ªstealing the classified documents and refusing to return them,) they would be sitting in jail awaiting trial. I never paid attention the US Department of Justice until the past couple of years, but it does seem that they seek justice, even if they drag tail doing so.

1.? Should the US take the advice of the president of El Salvador?
Overcome the dark forces? Does not sound like new advice. Admittedly I did not research?this one in depth and so likely missed details, but I am moving the RV westward after four months on Texas Golf coast and so time is a bit?limited.?
2.? Should the UN disestablish the nation of Israel?
LOL. How would that work? Israel is not really responsive?to organizations with teeth! In any case, I feel it would be a poor precedent and I feel it?is not warranted. Israel has made its point in Gaza and hopefully Hamas (which is probably far from destroyed) might just try to think up new strategies moving forward. Pouring into Israel and murdering people is obviously not the most effective approach for pursuing their goals.
3.? Is the US or Argentina running a more balanced budget?
I am not sure, but I suppose that is an illusionary concept at best.
4.? Why was there no Nobel Peace Prize awarded in 1948?

No knowledge about this.
The president of El Salvador said criminals should? be in prison
2.? Should the UN disestablish the nation of Israel?
Absolutely not.
Trick question.? There is one school of thought that disestablishing Israel would calm down the extremists in the MIddle East - but there is the legal question - given that no country has been disestablished in recent history - other than East Germany which was absorbed into West Germany
3.? Is the US or Argentina running a more balanced budget?
No knowledge.
Currently according to reports Argentina has the most balanced budget it has had in fifty years - one big reason was that their new president cut government employment by ab out half.
4.? Why was there no Nobel Peace Prize awarded in 1948?
Hmmm. No knowledge.
Because Nobel prizes are not given to dead people - Ghandi would have won it if he had not been killed.
5.? Should the government be allowed to use cell phone location data from private sources as a way of tracking people?
What private sources?
In this case it was data gatherers

I am sad that he was cornered and executed, but I am also a bit flabbergasted?that he undertook such a hazardous life mission and remained within the grasp of the dictator he opposed. I respect his commitment to his values,?though. I hope he has achieve both martyrdom and that his fate serves as a warning to others of his ilk.

In Argentina economy has been falling for many years now (no matter what you read in the papers). New government is trying to implement many changes, but, if the pull through, those will impact in a not too near future.?

No one stands out. Perhaps the idea that the charge toward the precipice of widespread social collapse is only a pipe dream. Or pipe nightmare. Change is inevitable, but we are gifted with symbol-using minds that allow us to predict potential futures before we have to actually have to live them.
3.? Are you concerned about the Russian threat to use nuclear weapons on western allies if they are losing in the war in Ukraine?
?
I expect it and have brought it up on?occasion over the past year, even in this exercise if I remember right. If Putin loses in Ukraine, loses his hold on Russia, his own life is likely forfeit. I am sure he is grooming many contingency plans and I am sure battlefield nukes are involved in some of them. I have some concerns around this.
4.? What are you planning to do for St Patrick's Day?

Not even sure where in the States I will be or what the state of the world will be, but probably the usual: TV, computer, Kindle. Under the right circumstances, a pint.

Re: Friday Five February 23
We'll see. Macri also tried, but not so willingly.
The main issue is the political related expenses: not only congress' diets are way too expensive, but there are hundred of advisors per seat, at national congress, and provincial ones. There are lots of people just checking a salary doing -literally- nothing except voting for whomever hired them. Each leaving administration (we use the term government) adds their load of "?oquis", as they are called.?
So far, there seems to be some real action about it, cancelling contracts and firing people who have not shown up to work (at least, check in and on daily) during the last year...
But what some people really want to see (me amongst them), is congress's diets being cut... I don't think that's going to happen any time soon.

No problem.? On another note - what do you think of your new president - apparently he has done what no American president has done in thirty years.

My appologies, it was Marvin, not David, who's answer I was quoting and sharing.

No, I seldom answer these, Marvin, and I haven't this time. ?Perhaps my best excuse is that I see them as questions, and my ignorance on everything is profound. ?Darrell has said, as I recall, that he regards them a stepping stones to wider musing, but I'm a hopeless literalist. ?Also, what people in Internet groups seem usually to become most exercised about seems to be what's hot in "the news", the things that people have become convinced that they understand because they've seen them or heard them talked about by talking heads. ?I understand that that is a natural phenomenon, but I wish it weren't. ?Bah humbug.
