Celeste said: Sure, if they are recovering from surgery or something of that nature. Or if there is a pandemic and people in the workplace are getting sick

And Darrell just had to chime in: I might go so far as to say there are many tasks where working in person?at some brick-and-mortar location?is actually?less?efficient on so many levels even under normal circumstances. Commuting, parking, operational expenses, duplicated equipment. I remember working from home as a software freelancer for a decade and I saw no compelling reason to commute to client locations. I suspect that a significant?portion of the objections to distance working comes from those who rely heavily upon the dynamics of in-person communication; folks who rely less on reading comprehension or who are bothered in some way by video conferencing or audio-only communication.

Sure. Why not? There can certainly be several descriptions for someone who is pregnant.

Not much.

4.? Should federal government employees be required to list what they have accomplished in the last week - if they are on sick leave or vacatioin they can report a week after they have come back.
We do that every week so we can compile a Weekly Action Report every week. Everyone reports to their supervisor. Makes no sense for someone on sick leave or vacation to do that, though.

The way this question is presented, the answer is obvious. So, I am assuming we are speaking of some type of formal or legal?change to something formal or legal. Like, sure. Or not. I seem to remember reading something about this in reference?to the term "mother" but I cannot remember the details and I feel I have spent plenty of time already on the bandstanding, banner-waving distractions of the whole gender thing. Hamas supporters are rioting ("demonstrating") with legal protections even though Hamas is officially a criminal organization. A significant portion of LA burned to the ground. Greenland is melting. Water is being found offworld. Global powers are rattling sabers. While I do not care what people do behind closed doors, I prefer not to spend my declining stash of precious minutes on such. Call a mother a mother or an impregnated person or whatever you want and if you get punched in the mouth for offending someone, don't go whining to your lawyer over it!

2.? Should people be allowed to work from home without supervision?

No. The term "supervision", however, can refer to monitoring without an actual in-person presence. I work from how?on occasion doing software-related tasks and my home moves around the country. I am judged by productivity and quality rather than by hitting a time clock at intervals. I also seem to remember plenty of wasted work time around me when I used to do on-site hours.

Should people be allowed to work onsite without productivity measurements?

3. Will the release of the Epstein records accomplish anything?

So far, no? Not that I have seen. Still, maybe some names will come to light and then the media will make?some sales and then life will move on. Powerful people have been indulging themselves for centuries and millennia. They will continue to do so. The fact that any of it is considered secretive is a testament?to the fact that the mob is still considered worth concealing things from, but when you got the bucks, you can pursue your hobbies.

When I worked for a state government for a couple decades, I had to use my online calendar to schedule client sessions so the state could measure my in-person contact hours. Research, travel and other supporting activities were watched. I had quarterly and annual reviews to document the quality of my work and areas where improvement might be pursued. Except for the spontaneous flavor of the request, I am unsure why this email is being touted as unfair or hard to satisfy. I would respond:

Dear Elon,

1) 23 in-person client sessions
2) 4 hours of case history research
3) 3 client teaching groups led
4) 1 online self improvement class attended
5) 2 case consultations with peers

5.? Will the settlement between Ukraine?and Russia accomplish anything useful?

It's all about the media and the money, so eventually there will be a resolution. Not sure if it will happen this time, but the U.S. stance seems to be that either party has to put serious offers on the table if it wants to be considered in the trading. This seems to be stirring some sluggish awakening all around the globe, so negotiations are the growing current fad. I suspect this tentatively?supports?a cautious affirmative answer to the question: it has a chance to lead to more and more meaningful steps toward ending the war with (for now) stable borders.

Of course, Gaza is teetering, but that is a bit more volatile because Hama is technically a criminal cartel in U.S. and Israeli definition and therefore not really a valid entity for negotiations anyway.

This is a proposal by the governor of Wisconson.? In all seriousness - a mother is someone who nurtures and guides children - it has nothing to do with gestation.

1.? Is race a real or constructed concept?
It's fully a constructed concept. There are no sub-species of homo sapiens. Of course, there are differences in appearance between our various ethnic groups. Skin color is one of those appearance factors, but it's not a racial thing.

2.? If race is real, what race should people of mixed ancestry be classied as?
Human race

3? Should Forest Management be returned to the seasonal burning done by the Native Americans before white colonization?
Something like that would be a good idea.

4.? Should litigation to limit forest management be outlawed or severely limited in scope and time?
Too vague a question... define forest management.

5.? Musk has suggested that part of the savings from DOGE should be rebated to taxpayers - is this a good idea?
DOGE should be eliminated, it's changes should be reversed, and Musk should return the payments he has received.

Re: [PhilosophicalM] Friday Five February 21

1.? Is race a real or constructed concept?

It's real, and obvious in most cases.

2.? If race is real, what race should people of mixed ancestry be classied as?

Call them "mixed race." ?The Mexicans and some Caribbean Islands and parts of the American South went overboard with the concept of mixed race, as did the South Africans during apartheid.? In schools we learned about mulattos, quadroons, octaroons, sesquitoons, but the Mexicans had separate terms for Spanish/Indians and Black/Indians and every other combination you can imagine.? There used to be a huge chart in the Chapultepec museum showing drawings of what those various racial permutations looked like.

3? Should Forest Management be returned to the seasonal burning done by the Native Americans before white colonization?

I'm not sure what you mean by seasonal burning done by the Native Americans, since tribes behaved differently, but seasonal burning seems to be a better way to manage some forests than uncontrolled burning.

4.? Should litigation to limit forest management be outlawed or severely limited in scope and time?

I don't know what you mean by that.

5.? Musk has suggested that part of the savings from DOGE should be rebated to taxpayers - is this a good idea?\\

Let's wait until we see how much savings there are.

1.? Is race a real or constructed concept?

Definitely constructed - and only useful for acting like chiefs instead of the indians we all are.

Race is simply a different way of looking at cultures.

2.? If race is real, what race should people of mixed ancestry be classied as?

People.? We are all mixtures.??

3? Should Forest Management be returned to the seasonal burning done by the Native Americans before white colonization?

Very definitely - right now California forests are overstocked - by stem count by about a factor of six.

4.? Should litigation to limit forest management be outlawed or severely limited in scope and time?

Ys -? at the moment it takes the US Forest Service about five years to get permission to do a controlled burn or mechanical thinning.? At this rate the forests will be brought back to a sensible condition somewhere around the the year 3000.

5.? Musk has suggested that part of the savings from DOGE should be rebated to taxpayers - is this a good idea?

Bettre than the alternative which is that congress just figures out more stupid ways to spend it.

Constructed, like every other concept. We use these concepts as symboldsfor what we each perceive?to be reality so that we can think about them. This is a natural consequence of having a human mind, which is useful for predicting and thus attempting to avoid threats to the organisms survival. We have just cleverly expanded that basic functionality to model reality mentally for use in various pursuits not directly related to threat mitigation. None of these symbols are "real" and their accuracy in reflecting observations is debatable and often is debated energetically!

Given current environmental trends, I suspect litigation of any type will soon become severely limited. Outlawing litigation, however, would simply encourage alternative challenges.

5.? Musk has suggested that part of the savings from DOGE should be rebated to taxpayers - is this a good idea?

I hear 20% in payouts to citizens, 20% into the federal budget to pay down debt. I am assuming the remaining 60% would be invested?in the budget to avoid new debt, but I suppose based on history that some will go to the ruling elite. I am fine with payouts, yes, as I have been paying in for decades! I imagine this would be a bone to the mob to maintain its support and if the amounts are significant enough, it might be an effective bone for at least a short period.

I wonder how this would differ from a public dole? The limited duration?

1.? Have you ever heard of the Dunning -Kruge Effect?

?

Had heard of the name Dunning Kruger but didn't know what it was. I have observed it however, many times, or something like it. What I have observed is not-very-bright people who think they're the smartest people in the room. Happens all the time. But the description of Dunning Kruger is a little different; it's about specific knowledge, and applies to all of us, in any subject about which we are not well informed.?

?

2.? Should the constitution of the US be harder or easier to amend?

?

No opinion. Don't know anything about the US constitution.

?

3.? ?Should the constitution be interpreted in accordance with the thoughts of the writers or current mores?

?

No opinion. Don't know anything about the US constitution.

?

4.? What one item of foreign aid woul save the most lives worldwide at the lowest cost?

?

Capitalism. Any country with all the qualities and components of capitalism, which includes the rule of law, individual responsibility, individual autonomy, individual ownership, and others (that is, not the semi-capitalism practiced by China) will become prosperous, and nothing saves lives like prosperity. How to give it to them is the question. It takes good governance, and we can't even manage that any more in our own western countries, with our history and tradition of all the qualities needed.

?

5l.? Should men who want to play on women's athletic teams have to undergo a cliteriectomy?

?

No. It is not possible. A clitorectomy can only be done on a female, since only females have a clitoris to remove. Men who want to play on women's athletic teams are men, they are not women. They do not have a clitoris.

And performing a penectomy or phallectomy (removal of the penis) and an orchiectomy (removal of the testicles) would not help, although it would be good to do on men who want to go into women's dressing rooms, bathrooms and prisons. But it wouldn't help in sports. As soon as a male goes through puberty, he develops the greater size, strength and speed that make competing against women unfair and, in some sports, dangerous. All the surgery and hormones in the world, for the rest of his life, will not significantly change that. Much simpler and more sensible to divide people into teams based on biological sex, not imagined gender "identity". Also dressing rooms, bathrooms and prisons should be divided based on biological sex, not fantasy. A man without his junk could not rape women in those places, but he is still bigger and stronger and faster and could assault them and hurt them very badly. Keep him out.

You are the first person who figured out what I was alluding to.? The point is that most males are not going to be willing to be emasculated just to be able to participate in woman's sport.? And I posrted my answer saying they should be required to have orchiotomys as well - which is a fancy way of saying they should be castrated as well as being emasculated.

And Darrell replied: Fine by me. I have not peeked?into a ladies area since I was a teen, when such things had the thrill of a hormone-driven novelty. Fair is fair, though, so you ladies best not be ninja-spying on our men's domains! Get thee hence, witches!

Both.

I'm not familiar enough with the items of foreign aid. I'd have to spend too much time researching to provide an answer.

I don't think that's a real procedure of any sort.
