NEAF? 20
Disappointed that Losmandy was not at NEAF this year. I drove 90 miles to specifically see them and purchase their polar alignment scope/tool and say hello to them.

New G11T Altitude Adjustment 5
Hi, Today I reveived my new G11T from Losmandy. There is a 1/2" allen wrench bolt on both sides of the mount in the middle of the altitude adjustment screws. They were loose when I unboxed that I presumed was for shipping purposes. So my first thought was that the bolts locked the altitude adjustmant in place after polar alignment. But after adjusting the elevation with the large knob in the rear and then tightening the bolts, the elevation still turned without added effort. Any idea what the bolts are for and how tight they should be. I added a photo below. I checked the User Manual

Recent G11 Reviews Needed Please 38
Good afternoon, I'm trying to narrow down an upgrade for my atrophotography. Right now my imaging train consists of an 80mm APO. I'm looking to purchase a larger telescope to add to my imaging (120mm APO) and will need to get a larger mount. My existing mount is just enough to handle what I currently image with. I'm very interested in the G11G. My only problem is that I cannot find any recent reviews from the last few years, from 2021 to present. I would really like to know how the new G11G's are performing, problems, etc. First question - my existing imaging train is only 14 pounds. Will I still get good guiding with being that much underloaded from what the G11 can actually carry? I have been told that large capacity mounts do not perform well with small loads. I would have to think this is false. Do the spring loaded worms on the new mounts need to be adjusted or do you just use the mount right out of the box? How tight do you make the clutches? Should you still be able to move the RA axis and DEC axis with decent pressure from your hand? I'm used to locking down the clutches and the RA and DEC don't really move unless by force. Is there is excessive dec backlash that seems to pop in reviews or is that just something that may happen? I understand that not everything made can always be 100% perfect. Things happen. People talk about fiddling with the mount. Reading things from Losmandy and other reviews, everything points to just use it, don't make any adjustments with the new mounts, don't fiddle, etc. I know these questions have been answered in the past, but that's the problem. I would like to know about the newer mounts, not 10 year old, 15 year old mounts. I also know that problems, bad reviews, etc. get posted more than the good. You really do not get a good picture of how things really are unfortunatley. I know I have viewed all of the Losmandy tutorials on their youtube channel at least twice. A new reliable mount is a lot of money. I just want to make sure. Any information is greatly appreciative. Thank you.

How much counterweight are you using with your 130mm refractor? 8
I have a G11G, and just got a 130mm Stellarvue refractor to image with. I've got an 11lb and 20lb counterweight currently, trying to figure out if I should use more. The scope weighs I think 21lbs with rings, and adding the camera, flattner etc I expect to be about 25-28lbs. Seems to weigh less than my fully loaded C11, but the 30ish lbs of counterweight didn't seem quite enough for that scope. The weight is much closer in with this refractor. I can get it to balance, but won't be able to test under the stars for tracking for quite a while based on forecast and travel plans. I had posted here before an a number of folks were using refractors in this class/weight range. What did you find was the 'right' amount of counterweight? Brian

Question on Drift 5
Titan Mount: When slewing to the first star, for alignment, when the mount stops moving the star also stops moving...as expected. The next few stars always move after the mount stops moving; they tend to drift East. Would that mean I'm too bias on the East for balancing the mount? Then after alignment, usually align on five stars, all other stars/objects drift in the same direction. Curious, Kenn

G11T Questions 5
Hi, I'm new to the group and getting ready to buy a new G11T and have a few questions; 1) Wanted to confirm that the included Gemini 2 is shipping with the L6 or is it still an add on? 2) It will be pier mounted. Is the MAL adaptor required or is there a single ~1/2" hole at the bottom of the mount to screw directly into my existing top pier plate? 3) My OTA is a SVX130T refractor that weighs approx 39 lbs (17.5kg). Do I need additional counter weights and if so which ones would you recommend? 4) I have a PPL Eagle5 mounted on top of the scope. It handles all of my power and computing needs for my current set up of a ZWO AM5 mount and NINA. I'm not relishing the idea of learning a new computer system. Can I quickly set up to use the Eagle5 with NINA and then incorporate Gemini as needed later on? And if so which settings would you recommend in the Gemini driver to start off with? Thanks for any help, Frank

Partial through the mount cabling success!
Always wanted to get my mount to have partial through the mount cabling. Rebuilt my power box and got the cables down to 1 silicone power cable and a thin flexible Ethernet cable. After some thought, I found a way to avoid cables affecting the RA axis. After running slewing tests in the house, I had 2 clear nights this weekend to try it out. Cable did not catch on or touch anything. Guiding was great! Just had to make one small 1/4-inch channel in the RA extension.

Spent a lot of time waiting for PHD2 to settle. What's going on? 3
Spent a lot of time settling to get three hours of data on M106. I didn't noticed until I was waiting for the medrian flip. It would appear to guide will then go beyond about 2 pixels/arc-sec and stop imaging. Any suggestions where to look to resolve?

Maybe a New Hand Controller for Gemini 2? 6
I got my Losmandy Titan in 2015, running Gemini 2. The hand controller went crazy on boot up this evening when I turned the mount on..... it was going to other languages..... German, French, Spanish. And the color went to purple. I tried re-flashing it with the GFU. That didn't fix it. This delayed me about 30 minutes, but I still was able to run the mount from my PC, using the server via Ethernet, and the mount operated fine, so I got some good data on my object. Another thing about the hand controller is the directional arrow keys were not working properly for slewing..... I think the up arrow moved it in RA, and I could not get any movement with the other 3 keys. So, I tried re-flashing the HC with the GFU, and that didn't do it. The mount worked fine from my PC, so to me, it doesn't sound like the main board has problems. Is there any other re-set I can try for the HC, or is it time for a new one? I did notice it requests calibration when you first boot it up. Also, after I re-flashed both the HC and the main board, I noticed on boot up the HC shows v. 1.6 and a build date of 07/23/2023. Thanks in advance. Dan

DST with Gemini2 4
I'm in Belgium, so the timezone is +1. Yesterday we switched to Daylight Saving Time, so +1 hour. How do I change the settings? Timezone +1 and the internal clock one hour later or do I also switch to timezone +2 ? Thanks! Philip

What¡¯s wrong with my Gemini 2? 8
Ok, this is a weird one. Powered up my Gemini-2 today (Gemini-2 mini driving a GM811). Got a message that the main circuit board power was low (or something to that effect) so I immediately replaced the CR2450 battery. Subsequently when I power up the unit the hand controller is not responding, or barely responding. Pressing the hand controller doesn¡¯t change which screen I am on, but rather just cycles through the same menu screen in different languages. And then it only appears that the touch screen is only sensitive along the extreme right or top edge. The mount appears to be driving, left untouched for a couple of hours it definitely moves where the scope is pointed (I¡¯m doing this indoors and am not picking up the GPS data). But the hand controller is basically useless. Thoughts?

Loose RA after Wavy Washer Install? 10
I have a new G11G carrying a ~50lb payload. I wasnt able to balance the payload very well (even setting the Altitude to horizontal). So I opt¡¯d for the wavy washer upgrade. I just installed it tonight and am concerned the clutch will no longer tighten enough. Before the wavy washer install with the RA on the bench if I fully tighten the clutch knob no matter how hard I try I cannot rotate the RA by hand. With the wavy washer installed and the clutch knob fully tightened I am able to palm the RA extension and rotate the RA by hand. I don¡¯t see how this could hold a 50lb payload without slipping. Am I missing something?

Who is imaging with a 130mm refractor and G11G? 10
I'm curious if anyone here is getting good imaging results with a 130mm refrcator on their G11G? I've been trying with my C11 at f/7, which is double the focal length of most 130s so much harder, but its just crazy behavior. Good guiding less than 1rms for a while, then a HUGE swing in RA, like 20arc-s. (problems I didn't have with my 75/400mm refractor) I think its just too much for the mount photographically, which I knew could be the case. Or maybe its the limited guide settings in the ASI AIr. Either way, thinking of getting something between the 75mm at 400mm focal length and the C11 f/7 at 2000mm. The 130mm refractors at f7-8 are 900-1000mm. Long scopes. How well does the G11G fare with those? Brian

Where to buy gear 4
Hi, I went to adjust the OPW backlash adjustment on my GM811 DEC and noticed one of the spur gears' set screws was completely loose. When I went to tighten it, the spur gear fell and hit the brick floor :( .... I installed it and did the worm adjustment, and noticed a large resistance at a specific spot when turning the gears. I finally found that some of the teeth were damaged when dropped. Does anyone know if I can buy these somewhere? I didn't find them on the losmandy website. (FYI its the gears in the "side cover" that Scot refers to in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiQlTMaUXkg. The gear that fell was the one furthest away from the worm.) Thanks for all the help

Gemini 2 and ASIAIR 7
Is the Gemini 2 compatible with the Gemini 2? I¡¯m considering the purchase of a G11 later this year. Met Scott as NEAF this year and he nicely told me it was the last mount I¡¯ve ever need. Still doing research to make sure that¡¯s true! ----------------------------- Rick Paul -- Rick Paul Tucson, AZ

I just bought a ASIAIR Plus to use with my G11 Gemini Mount--How do I get started 20
I just purchased an ASI Air plus and I would like advice on step-by-step process to get started using it with my G11 Gemini 2 mount. I haven't used my G 11 and four years. I purchased the mount 12 years ago and I have never updated the firmware. So that is my starting point. I would appreciate a step-by-step guide if one exists. thanks, Mark E.

Slewing Sounds
I had always been curious about the rather random motor sounds I get while doing Gop Tos. An oscillating sound would get my attention frequently. I figured out that it is only when both motors are slewing at the same time, it is just simple interference beats. I imagine this occurs with my other mounts, but being belt driven they are inherently quiet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_(acoustics)
