Level 6 review 13
I went to the Losmandy store today to purchase the Level 6 upgrade, but saw I could only do add to Wishlist. So in the meantime I would like to hear some feedback for those that have done the upgrade. 1.) If you did it yourself, how was it? Simple and easy, or did it take a lot of time and problem solving? 2.) Most important question is what if any changes or improvements have stood out for you? I plan to do this upgrade + purchase Pempro sometime this summer (I assume Gempro is just not coming out or will not be for some time).

Gemeni 2 and PHD2 Settings 4
I am resetting my guiding after some upgrades and a couple of months of inactivity. I am running an ES 127 with a 180mm guide scope and a ZWO 2600C mounted on my GM811G. I have the latest PHD2 and have upgraded my Gemini 2 to V6.2. My first runs were marked by a strong DEC drift that did not respond to guiding pulses. I've had this problem before. Since it had been a couple years since my last maintenance, and I just got the cleaning and lube kit from Losmandy, I decided to take both the Dec and RA axis apart and clean and lube. I also opened my DEC SLW gear box and cleaned, lubed and retightened. Had to watch Scott's video on this several times to get it set, but it seemed to slew well last night, though the DEC drift was still present in guiding. Tonight I am I am working through my notes from my conversations on guiding and recurrent DEC spikes/drift that I had with Brian and you all a couple years ago. As I do a careful rebalance, and a careful PA and in prep for another a calibration (bumping north first), I want to be sure I have my PHD2 set right. Attached are screenshots from my calibration last night (PA was not careful and seeing was poor), and the Guiding and Algorithms pages in PHD2's Advanced settings currently in place. In particular, what about the "Use Dec Compensation" and "Reverse Dec Output after Meridian flip" options on the Guiding page and the "Declination" and "Backlash Compensation" options on the Alogrithms page? I'd be glad for any suggestions.

Not a good start with G11T
Got a new G11T yesterday, unfortunately they forgot the female dovetail adapter on the dec axis to attach it to the RA.. This isn't some small detail they overlooked, this is totally unusable. I'm sure they will send me one but I am a little bit confused/angry.

Gemini 2 for sale
I have a Gemini 2 for sale for those interested. It is brand new, atleast in use. I bought it from Losmandy in Sept 2023 and have used it one time. Very soon after I bought it, I realized what was wrong with my Gemini 1 and fixed it. Not wanting to get into something new and to late to return it, it's up for sale. Asking $900.00 for it. It includes the computer, handbox and the cord...No motors included, Losmandy said I could use my existing motors. Please respond directly to wd4sel@... if interested. Pictures upon request. suggestions needed on how to improve a second hand G11 8
Hi Everyone, I would like to ask for your suggestions, as I bought a second hand G11 with Gemini I and I would like to do astrophotography with it. This particular unit has spring loaded covers for AR and DEC, but they were not made by Losmandy. Apparently, it was a "European version" of a spring loaded system, from somebody called HAS, but can't really get more info about it. I find it very similar to the Losmandy solution and I can adjust them in the same way that Scott's youtube videos show. Pics attached. When testing the Guiding Assistant in PHD2, I found an RA peak-to peak of 17.7 arcsecs, and a suggested maximum exposure time (due to drift) of 0,6 seconds due to very high gradients in the curve. Pic attached. From my understanding, this would be a good example of an old style worm (silver looking). But to my surprise, when I opened the worm cover, I found the goldish looking High Precision Worm! I would expect a smoother RA tracking behaviour for a brass worm... Any comments here? Prior to this test, I dissasembled and regreased the DEC and RA shafts, but not the worms and dented wheels. Would it be a good idea ot clean and regrease them? Would this step be your first suggestion? I don't mind to dissasemble components and get some replacements purchased for this mount. Regarding backlash, I managed to reduce it a bit, but not able to remove it below 6 seconds drift when changing directions (on a terrestrial object, with no sideral movement and a guiding speed of 0,5x) I found the DEC gearbox to have a loose cover (the plastic box), so I'll order a replacement, as I guess that DEC backlash is due to this. Thanks in advance for your suggestions! best regards from Spain! Juanma Rivero

Gemini Firmware L6.02 released! 21
Folks, Gemini L6.02 firmware and Hand Controller v1.61 firmware are now out of beta test, and available to everyone. This version enables full use of PEC with L6 and with PEMPro. In addition, it addresses some issues reported by the Southern hemisphere users, and adds a few new serial commands that make Gemini controller even more powerful. Steps to update 1. Update Gemini firmware using the latest GFU utility, v1.0.31 https://gemini-2.com/GFU-download.html. Update HC version also if yours is older than v1.61, by checking the HC checkbox near the top of GFU window. 2. If you use PEMPro, install v3.10.07 or later that's compatible with Gemini L6.02 from here: https://www.siriusimaging.com/PEMProV3/PEMProV3_Release_v3.10.07.exe. Follow instructions by Brian Valente for using PEMPro with L6: /g/Gemini-II/files/Gemini%20L6.02%20beta%20files/Losmandy_PEC_Primer_for_L6.pdf 3. If you use ASCOM, you may want to update your version to the latest driver (v1.1.25): https://gemini-2.com/ASCOM.html 4. Latest serial command documentation is available: https://gemini-2.com/web/L6V02serial.html NOTE 1: If you can't use GFU, you can still update the firmware to L6.02 by using the combined firmware file from here: https://gemini-2.com/firmware1/combined602.zip and update Gemini using Gemini web pages or by copying the appropriate files directly to the microSD card through FTP or by removing the SD card. NOTE 2: Remember to also update PIC controllers to v3 firmware to get the 4x encoder resolution if you are upgrading from L5. You should see this in the Gemini web pages after the update: Regards, -Paul

NEAF? 20
Disappointed that Losmandy was not at NEAF this year. I drove 90 miles to specifically see them and purchase their polar alignment scope/tool and say hello to them.

New G11T Altitude Adjustment 5
Hi, Today I reveived my new G11T from Losmandy. There is a 1/2" allen wrench bolt on both sides of the mount in the middle of the altitude adjustment screws. They were loose when I unboxed that I presumed was for shipping purposes. So my first thought was that the bolts locked the altitude adjustmant in place after polar alignment. But after adjusting the elevation with the large knob in the rear and then tightening the bolts, the elevation still turned without added effort. Any idea what the bolts are for and how tight they should be. I added a photo below. I checked the User Manual

Recent G11 Reviews Needed Please 38
Good afternoon, I'm trying to narrow down an upgrade for my atrophotography. Right now my imaging train consists of an 80mm APO. I'm looking to purchase a larger telescope to add to my imaging (120mm APO) and will need to get a larger mount. My existing mount is just enough to handle what I currently image with. I'm very interested in the G11G. My only problem is that I cannot find any recent reviews from the last few years, from 2021 to present. I would really like to know how the new G11G's are performing, problems, etc. First question - my existing imaging train is only 14 pounds. Will I still get good guiding with being that much underloaded from what the G11 can actually carry? I have been told that large capacity mounts do not perform well with small loads. I would have to think this is false. Do the spring loaded worms on the new mounts need to be adjusted or do you just use the mount right out of the box? How tight do you make the clutches? Should you still be able to move the RA axis and DEC axis with decent pressure from your hand? I'm used to locking down the clutches and the RA and DEC don't really move unless by force. Is there is excessive dec backlash that seems to pop in reviews or is that just something that may happen? I understand that not everything made can always be 100% perfect. Things happen. People talk about fiddling with the mount. Reading things from Losmandy and other reviews, everything points to just use it, don't make any adjustments with the new mounts, don't fiddle, etc. I know these questions have been answered in the past, but that's the problem. I would like to know about the newer mounts, not 10 year old, 15 year old mounts. I also know that problems, bad reviews, etc. get posted more than the good. You really do not get a good picture of how things really are unfortunatley. I know I have viewed all of the Losmandy tutorials on their youtube channel at least twice. A new reliable mount is a lot of money. I just want to make sure. Any information is greatly appreciative. Thank you.

How much counterweight are you using with your 130mm refractor? 8
I have a G11G, and just got a 130mm Stellarvue refractor to image with. I've got an 11lb and 20lb counterweight currently, trying to figure out if I should use more. The scope weighs I think 21lbs with rings, and adding the camera, flattner etc I expect to be about 25-28lbs. Seems to weigh less than my fully loaded C11, but the 30ish lbs of counterweight didn't seem quite enough for that scope. The weight is much closer in with this refractor. I can get it to balance, but won't be able to test under the stars for tracking for quite a while based on forecast and travel plans. I had posted here before an a number of folks were using refractors in this class/weight range. What did you find was the 'right' amount of counterweight? Brian

Question on Drift 5
Titan Mount: When slewing to the first star, for alignment, when the mount stops moving the star also stops moving...as expected. The next few stars always move after the mount stops moving; they tend to drift East. Would that mean I'm too bias on the East for balancing the mount? Then after alignment, usually align on five stars, all other stars/objects drift in the same direction. Curious, Kenn

G11T Questions 5
Hi, I'm new to the group and getting ready to buy a new G11T and have a few questions; 1) Wanted to confirm that the included Gemini 2 is shipping with the L6 or is it still an add on? 2) It will be pier mounted. Is the MAL adaptor required or is there a single ~1/2" hole at the bottom of the mount to screw directly into my existing top pier plate? 3) My OTA is a SVX130T refractor that weighs approx 39 lbs (17.5kg). Do I need additional counter weights and if so which ones would you recommend? 4) I have a PPL Eagle5 mounted on top of the scope. It handles all of my power and computing needs for my current set up of a ZWO AM5 mount and NINA. I'm not relishing the idea of learning a new computer system. Can I quickly set up to use the Eagle5 with NINA and then incorporate Gemini as needed later on? And if so which settings would you recommend in the Gemini driver to start off with? Thanks for any help, Frank

Partial through the mount cabling success!
Always wanted to get my mount to have partial through the mount cabling. Rebuilt my power box and got the cables down to 1 silicone power cable and a thin flexible Ethernet cable. After some thought, I found a way to avoid cables affecting the RA axis. After running slewing tests in the house, I had 2 clear nights this weekend to try it out. Cable did not catch on or touch anything. Guiding was great! Just had to make one small 1/4-inch channel in the RA extension.

Spent a lot of time waiting for PHD2 to settle. What's going on? 3
Spent a lot of time settling to get three hours of data on M106. I didn't noticed until I was waiting for the medrian flip. It would appear to guide will then go beyond about 2 pixels/arc-sec and stop imaging. Any suggestions where to look to resolve?

Maybe a New Hand Controller for Gemini 2? 6
I got my Losmandy Titan in 2015, running Gemini 2. The hand controller went crazy on boot up this evening when I turned the mount on..... it was going to other languages..... German, French, Spanish. And the color went to purple. I tried re-flashing it with the GFU. That didn't fix it. This delayed me about 30 minutes, but I still was able to run the mount from my PC, using the server via Ethernet, and the mount operated fine, so I got some good data on my object. Another thing about the hand controller is the directional arrow keys were not working properly for slewing..... I think the up arrow moved it in RA, and I could not get any movement with the other 3 keys. So, I tried re-flashing the HC with the GFU, and that didn't do it. The mount worked fine from my PC, so to me, it doesn't sound like the main board has problems. Is there any other re-set I can try for the HC, or is it time for a new one? I did notice it requests calibration when you first boot it up. Also, after I re-flashed both the HC and the main board, I noticed on boot up the HC shows v. 1.6 and a build date of 07/23/2023. Thanks in advance. Dan

DST with Gemini2 4
I'm in Belgium, so the timezone is +1. Yesterday we switched to Daylight Saving Time, so +1 hour. How do I change the settings? Timezone +1 and the internal clock one hour later or do I also switch to timezone +2 ? Thanks! Philip

What¡¯s wrong with my Gemini 2? 8
Ok, this is a weird one. Powered up my Gemini-2 today (Gemini-2 mini driving a GM811). Got a message that the main circuit board power was low (or something to that effect) so I immediately replaced the CR2450 battery. Subsequently when I power up the unit the hand controller is not responding, or barely responding. Pressing the hand controller doesn¡¯t change which screen I am on, but rather just cycles through the same menu screen in different languages. And then it only appears that the touch screen is only sensitive along the extreme right or top edge. The mount appears to be driving, left untouched for a couple of hours it definitely moves where the scope is pointed (I¡¯m doing this indoors and am not picking up the GPS data). But the hand controller is basically useless. Thoughts?

Loose RA after Wavy Washer Install? 10
I have a new G11G carrying a ~50lb payload. I wasnt able to balance the payload very well (even setting the Altitude to horizontal). So I opt¡¯d for the wavy washer upgrade. I just installed it tonight and am concerned the clutch will no longer tighten enough. Before the wavy washer install with the RA on the bench if I fully tighten the clutch knob no matter how hard I try I cannot rotate the RA by hand. With the wavy washer installed and the clutch knob fully tightened I am able to palm the RA extension and rotate the RA by hand. I don¡¯t see how this could hold a 50lb payload without slipping. Am I missing something?
