Installing tucked in motors

I attached the motors to my new G811G mount and noticed how the dec motor is slanted inward. This was the only way the 2 attachment screws would align. See images attached.

This is unlike the ?RA motor which aligns squarely.

Did I attach the DEC motor correctly?

Looks wrong to me, Glen.

The motor must not bump against the body cylinder.

The motor can be rotated 180 degrees, by then as you show it will be in the way of the RA polar scope viewport. That is still wrong.??

So get better assembly instructions from Brian at Losmandy.? Don't run it like you have it.

Michael

Hello,?
I attached the motors on my G11G 180¡ã to yours I tried attaching the motors like you did it seemed to be good idea to protect them better but on the RA I found that it put stress on the short RA cable so I swapped the motors around it just did not seem right.

Can anyone send me a photo of the correct assembly of the DEC motor. It seems the only way to straighten it it to take the assembly apart to re-align the screws. ?I shouldn¡¯t have to do that.

looks to me like you did, see this video:

Ok.? Brian's video shows the assembly like Glenn had it in already.? That puts the motor back optical encoder detector section pointing up and out of the way of the RA polar scope axis cap.? ?

In his post, Glenn thought the inward slant didn't appear quite right.? Yet that's also the way it appears in Brian's video.? So Glenn it seems you did get it right in your tucked motor version.??

Have fun,
Michael

Yes.?

Also Deric mentioned installing it 180 opposite direction, that's fine too.

There's no technical reason not to do that, but I find it can interfere with the polar scope hole (and also when used with polemaster)

Hello Brian,
I can see how it could interfere with The PoleMaster. But it does not interfere at all with using the Polar align scope.you cannot see any part the motor housing through the scope. On the RA motor orientation it stressed the cable jacks at the Din sockets, I found that it put a degree of torque on the plugs do to the short lengh of the RA cable and I did not think that this was a good thing. Lenghtheing the RA cable would not be a good remedy either, the RA cable is the proper lengh to prevent it from being snagged during use. I imagine Scott, figured this out through trial and error along time ago.?

Hi Deric

i should have clarified i meant only for DEC. the RA motor should go in a specific orientation as you pointed out

This is correct on the GM8 tucked in servo motor installation for both DEC and RA. There is a plate used to tilt the drive out just enough for the servos to clear.?

OK, some pictures of my GM811G Dec motor for you to reference.
I think I could see why you might think your motor is kitty-wampus.
But if it is landing flat on the surface it sets in, I'd bet it straight.
It sets very close to the area's around it. About 1/16" and 1/8".

Mine was a bit noisy at first, but after doing ?(<Youtube), and letting it break in, it has gotten quite quiet.
Just a whirr. My RA is a little noisier, but nothing I'm concerned about.
Scott told me when I picked mine up, "Don't mess with it. Just use it." So I've left mine alone, and been very pleased. (Once I unlearned some of my bad habits it took to run my dead Chinese mount.)

These are all in the house, laying on the kitchen island. So you can turn your display, or cock your head to get your best viewing angle. I have on mine.

Hope that helps.
