Re: G11 RA Also?
Bruce I guide at 400 or 800mm with my st4, I also get long strings of 0's and
1's. You really need to determine if you have st4 or g11 problems, and the way
to do this is to attempt some manual

Re: G11 RA Also?
This appears to be a somewhat common lament. My new G-11/Tak FS-102
and ST-7E do not track quite as well as I would like unless I take
great care in setting it up and using the proper guide

Stepper chatter on G11
I've been having this odd motor chatter that I thought was OK until I had my
G11 set up right next to another one and the other one made almost no noise.
I have attached a link to a WAV file i made of

Re: GM-8 stepper motor and CCD
Chris, have you tried tracking a star visually?, use at least 400x (stack
barlows if you have to) and see how the mount reacts..I have found you cannot
adjust the worm gears without a visual check

G11 RA Also?
Hello Members:
Like Chris Woodruff, I too may have a problem with RA, but this is
a G11 on a permanent pier/observatory setting. The pier is 6"
schedule 40 pipe with gusseting, etc. with a

Re: GM-8 stepper motor and CCD
On my GM-8 this is NOT the case. I took 5 100 sec consecutive
unguided images at 450mm fl and the images were identical. The stars
didn't move more than 1 or 2 pixels. The problem is each of the

I am just trying to find out if this is just typical or are there
things we could do to improve this?

Re: GM-8 stepper motor and CCD
On my G-11 mount (with the standard stepper motors) I don't see a
trace of vibration at the highest powers if I tighten the clutches down.

Re: GM-8 stepper motor and CCD
We have several G11 and GM8s in our local group and I have never seen any high
power vibration, from what I have heard its not a common problem and its caused
by bad motors..Most likely the CCD

Re: GM-8 RA problem...
I have had a hard time getting the G11 to perform as well as other people
seem to be doing. I can't do unguided exposures for more than 15 or 20
seconds with my Tak FS102 and the periodic error is

Re: GM-8 stepper motor and CCD
The Astro-Physics mounts use servo motors which have 0.05 arc second steps,
the G11 and G8 use stepper motors which have 0.5 arc second steps. The new
Losmandy goto system replaces the stepper motors

You are correct, sorry for the confusion! I am simply asking (after

Re: 6" Refractor on GM8 ?
David,
I have the 150 and EQ4(CG5) just for the portability issue. All I did was to replace the aluminum
tripod legs with homemade wooden legs and the scope is just fine. With the lower prices I

Re: GM-8 RA problem...
Paul,
I think Chris's question is why his cheap CG-5 seems to perform so much
better than his new GM-8. Actually, he has a very specific question. For
those who have used the GM-8 for unguided CCD

I'm not seeing anything here involving Losmandy. Am I missing something? If
not, you might want to post this on one of the CCD lists on eGroups.

Re: 6" Refractor on GM8 ?
Actually the CG-5 is okay if you disassemble and re-grease the mount and
replace the silly aluminum legs with wooden ones. A thump to the OTA will
dampen out in a second or so (as opposed to 6

Re: 6" Refractor on GM8 ?
I keep hearing this. I already have a G11. Use it with my C11 SCT. I was
thinking about picking up the CR150 mounted on a CG5 hoping for a more
portable scope. The consensus, however seems to be

Edward at Lumicon once suggested a quick process to resolve this kind
of issue. Move one axis 360 degrees and watch the encoder position
