Re: Mature G11 repair
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIn our initial testing, we only bench tested the mount
standalone, after doing some temporary repairs on the Gemini-1. We
took the RA and Dec axis apart to clean and re-grease before
anything else, as they were frozen and could not be moved by hand.
The servos now move both the RA and Dec axis.? There is still some
un-binding/gunk-work to do. We have no saddle nor pier/tripod yet, so real world testing is
yet to come. Dale On 2/15/24 5:45 PM, Jim Waters wrote:

Mature G11 repair
My club has recently obtained a maybe 2010 era? G11 with Gemini-1 controller, untucked servos, OPW, and pretty gummed up bearings and axis shafts.
We debugged the Gemini a bit and got it booted, tested the servos (good), and took apart both axis, using the Losmandy lube kit to remove really old hardened grease and free the bearings. Regreased with the Losmandy supplied grease. Clutch pads are a bit worn (some grooving).? The needle bearings were frozen, but eventually came free-ish.? Minimally, we should replace the clutch pads, and install new bearings. Haven't even started looking at the OPW. Any suggestions for further tweaks/upgrades/adjustments to make? SLW upgrade, bearings? Pitfalls? Thanks in advance! ?Dale Nelson |
Re: C11 users....what photographic results are you getting?
I have a somewhat similar M10 that I use for planetary, lunar and solar imaging. I did try it once or twice for dso when I had a woefully inadequate rig. I shot the omega centauri cluster with the celestron 0.63x reducer and a dslr camera riding an older, 492 driven gm8 and was satisfied with the results, but that required short exposures to counteract the large PE the mount had (before I learned to tune it).

Re: C11 users....what photographic results are you getting?
There is a lot of conflicting advice - such as a good image can't come from this scope because of being seeing limited.? I bought it years ago for visual use, so its costing me nothing (but the flattener and some adaptors) to try it.? ?I figured someone here must be imaging with a C11 and could share some results.?

Re: C11 users....what photographic results are you getting?
Hi Brian,
That's a pretty specific equipment combination, but perhaps you'll get a response. The G11 should be able to handle a C11 as far as payload. With my C925 I have gotten PHD2 guiding in the 0.6 error range but have gotten down to 0.4 in excellent seeing. I can't speak as to how an ASIAir would be better or worse since my preference is for PC controlled imaging. The Duo should give you nice guiding as long as you can find a guide star, and I've heard some mixed reviews with NB filters. I typically use the PPEC algorithm for RA guiding but not sure how that works in the ZWO environment. As long as you balance well and do your guiding calibrations, you should be OK to go. C11 users....what photographic results are you getting?
I'm looking to mount up my C11 with the 0.7 reducer and take some images of galaxies.? ?The image scale is about 0.4 arc-s/px, and my normal guiding with my 80mm refractor is 0.6-0.9, so I'll clearly be oversampled.? I figure I can Bin 2 to get my image scale about the same as seeing/guiding.? And folks on CN have seemed to have decent results doing this and adding in a deconvolution/sharpening step to the post processing.?
So losmandy users, how much luck have you had with C11?? Example images you can n share?? With galaxybseason nearing I'm keep to see what I can get.? But afraid maybe it's just not going to work out.? Brian |

Stellarvue 130mm RaptorHi Derek, Just saw your post. So sorry to hear your need to sell your gear. I hope you still be enjoying astronomy going forward. Cloudy Nights Classifieds has been a great place for me to sell gear I no longer wanted. There are no selling fees like Ebay or other auction places. You could always post an ad in your local astronomy club newsletters if you want somebody local to pick it up directly.? All the best/good luck! Re: Gemini 2 Level 6 Instruction Manual/PEC Training
Hi Dave,

There is some testing going on Level 6+ and PEC training in a separate group, with some newer versions of the firmware and PEMPro, as well. So far it's looking very good. I would not recommend that you attempt to program PEC with the older L6.0 firmware that came out last summer. The newer firmware is nearly ready for general release, but if you can't wait, feel free to join the?GeminiL6PEC group where you can get the latest and the greatest, and maybe you can also help test it once your skies clear up. /g/GeminiL6PEC Regards, ? ?-Paul On Sat, Feb 10, 2024 at 12:50 PM, <jeepcj779@...> wrote: Hello All, |
Gemini 2 Level 6 Instruction Manual/PEC Training
Hello All,
? I just installed the Level 6 upgrade on my 9 month old G11G. I qaa having an issue with a large peak to peak RA PE of about 24". I sent the RA axis to Losmandy and they could find nothing that might cause a PE of that magnitude, but they replaced the HP worm just to rule that out. ? Anyway, when they sent the RA axis back, they also sent a new Gemini 2 circuit board with the Level 6 upgrade already installed (their suggestion). The new board is installed now and the hand controller is updated. Everything seems to be working fine on the bench, but it has been cloudy since I received/installed the upgrade. In the mean time, I wanted to read up on Level 6, particularly PEC training. I understand Level 6 is not compatible with PEMPro, but there is a PEC training option in the HC menu. I would like to conduct PEC training when the weather allows, but I can't find any instructions/documentation for Level 6. Does anyone know where I can find the Level 6 instructions, or has anyone installed Level 6 and successfully conducted PEC training/correction? Thanks, Dave |

Thanks Paul
I forgot about using ftp but something is going on.? I don't have permission to delete the files.? I will look into this more later tonight.? For Sale in Nothern CA
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAsking here before I list it on Cloudy Nights.. I¡¯m selling (almost) all of my Astronomy Gear.. (I¡¯m half blind and moved to an apartment complex.. Would rather sell it all than have the neighbors see I have valuable stuff they can steal..) I prefer to sell to a local ¨C think Chico, CA - buyer, but.. Of primary concern for this group would be my 12¡± Meade SCT, G11 w/ Gemini 2, and Meade Giant field tripod.. Has all the bells and whistles, as well as a lot of extras.. Also available, in case you want an entire setup, is my Stellarvue 130mm Raptor (Carbon Fiber) Triplet w/ FeatherTouch (an many extras).. ? FYI ¨C Not giving them away, but not price gouging either.. I have a plethora of other items too.. Two Sky Atlas 2000.0 field editions laminated BNIB and unlaminated LNIB), a Harold Bobroff AstroAtlas, and much more.. If interested, send me a direct email and we can discuss, otherwise I¡¯ll just start listing stuff on Cloudy Nights.. ? Derek |

How do I delete old PEC files saved on my Gemini-2 mount?? I am using the web interface and I see no way to delete the files. You just need access to the SD card. You can even do this without taking it out. Just open WIndows file explorer, and type ftp://gemini?or ftp://192.168.1.111?or however you refer to gemini on your network. Enter user id and password, and you'll see the root folder of the SD card. Open PEC folder, select the files you don't like, and delete them, as you would a file on any other disk. |
