Hi CA Norton,

Is this the same mount as Mike posted earlier? If not, I'd like to split your question into a separate topic so as to not mix up conversations.

Hi All:

I have a 2006 G11 that has been in storage for a while (10 years), I pulled the unit out and done the following:

- Gemini 2 upgrade (now running version 6 firmware)
- cleaned / lube RA / DEC bearings, replaced thrust washers and clutch pads
- Installed a RA extension kit

My question is this: is the upgrade to high torque servo motor worth it? In 2006 I was playing with a Meade 10¡± RCX 400 and attempting to use it on a better mount (but that¡¯s a different story). Now I¡¯m using a relatively light weight refractor with some imaging gear, but a fraction of the RCX weight. I would assume the higher torque motors are more of benefit for a heavier load, but I thought I would ask the group for opinions.

Re: Advice on updating motors on a 2006 G11

I would say a hi-torque on Ra axis would be a must with a 10¡± RCX ?

?I¡¯m a fan of the newer motors they have enough torque to ¡°pull a sailor of ya sister¡±!

But you should be ok to keep the older motors for DEC axis. ?Oh I¡¯m also a fan of lowering slew and goto speeds to let¡¯s say 500-600X as it just reduces motor strain, noise etc. ?

Re: Help to identify this G11x?

Hi Mike,

It's a fairly recent G11 with Gemini-2, along with some additional accessories. Is there something specific you're looking to find out about this mount? I see an RA extension, upgraded clutch knobs, and a polar finder in the photos. Untucked motor on RA. Post a photo of the DEC and RA worm assemblies, as there may be more differences there between models.?

Ethernet would be worthwhile. You get a lot more capabilities and better, more reliable performance than over USB, and certainly much better than a non-working USB ;)

This is my advice also. Open the case and pull the circuit board out. Blow it out to dry rapidly then set it under an incandescent light bulb to use as a gentle local heat source to push out the last bits of moisture. Let it warm up for a couple hours and once fully warmed inspect for any corrosion on your cables and connectors. Cables can also be wet so they need a similar gentle warming and time for the moisture to escape the plastic that supports the pins. Do not rush it, be patient and chances are good if you have not damaged it by powering up before it was fully dried the Gemini will be fine.?

But be aware that your cables and Gemini will be much more likely going forward to have intermittent connector issues so buy some electrical contact cleaner and use it on all contacts as you insert and remove all cables several times to help the contact cleaner remove any light corrosion that is forming.?

Good luck!

Hi David, did you try restarting Gemini? Recheck that the USB cable is good and there¡¯s ?no corrosion or other issues with the connectors on both sides. Try a different USB cable.

I'm in Indiana as well.? I just imaged Saturday night.? It was -7F overnight.? A few degrees above zero at 630pm when I started the session.? My mount was already outside as I have a permanent spot for it.? I let the sun shine on it from about 3pm until 6.? Then fired it up for my session.? I did have some tracking oddities in the first hour - looked like some sticking where RA would pop up or down a few arc-s.? All night, I only threw away 4 subs due to tracking errors.? My rig is about 1.8arc-s/px.? RMS was floating between 0.7 and 1.1, which is a little higher than usual, which I might say is 0.6-0.8.??

I think this was pushing it.? But it worked!? I was dying for the Rosette this year, and hadn't seen a clear night in over a month.? Maybe 2.? ?Mine is a 2023 model with the springloaded worms.?

Mea culpa...

What I interpreted to be the notification to log out and back in was your notification that it was coming.

I apologize for the confusion.

For clarity, I did not?receive that email starting with "Action Required..."

I'm not sure which email you received, Joel. In the group membership logs there is no indication that you are either required to verify or have already verified, so you should not have received this. Possibly you received the message from me, but as was indicated before, that's not the message you should be looking for. Instead, look for one from groups.io with subject line:?Action Required: Confirm Your Groups.io Membership to Continue Receiving Group Emails

Here's the message from the Groups.io owner with some details:

My email is about as obscure as you could get. My father started his own domain way back when it all started.
