I¡¯m sure it was just like mine. But then it was boxed and shipped. No telling how many times it was dropped hard in shipping. Scott made this video for a reason. I had the same thing when I got mine. The adjustment is simple.

Adjust it.

Re: GM811 DEC backlash?

Thank you both and glad to hear that is normal! I'll go find that post by Brian? :-)
I'll be imaging with this 811G whenever the skies are clear next time. and thanks for those PHD2 tips!

Re: GM811 DEC backlash?

We got a very good explanation of this from Brian Valente maybe 18 months ago (I'm not sure).? Basically, you are feeling the effect of the spring-loaded worm.? It has some flexibility and is normal.

The other thing that will happen, when you are calibrating PHD2, is that the backlash will seem very large when calibrating, but actually, small corrections are made effectively.? Tell PHD2 to compensate for backlash in dec.? The effect of this particular mechanism seems to be that backlash seems to be large for large, sudden movements, but not for small ones.

Re: GM811 DEC backlash?

I have a G11G and it has Dec backlash.? I have had it 9 months and have not adjusted anything.? I balance the scope so it is a bit camera heavy.? Sometimes, depending on where in the sky I am pointing at, after a dither it takes sometime to clear the backlash.? I think its a known issue and in gear box, not the worm.? Before calibrating PHD2 I move the Dec axis north.? After calibration I run the guiding assistant and it gives me a backlash of 1300ms or so.?

GM811 DEC backlash?

Hi there,
New to Losmandy - just received my first one today, an 811G and just doing some indoor tests after I assembled it.
I've noticed there seems to be quite a bit backlash in the DEC. I did tighten the clutch but still I can move the DEC by turning the counterweight shaft, and can even hear a sound when it moves, sounds like it is bouncing between gear teeth...
I understand this particular 'issue' has been reported probably too many times but still I'm a bit concerned - is this backlash normal, or I need to do some adjustments myself?

Thanks a bunch!
Yue

Re: Askar 185 APO scope on a G11T will it work good

Yes, the same money will get you a with well known quality, half the weight, 29.5" long with dew shield retracted and 35" long when extended. Also, you have a domestic location for repair and adjustment.

Solstice?celebrations start tonight!

Joe,

My thinking would then be to look at other scopes with similar focal lengths that are not as long and heavy.? I also watched their introductory video, and this is a big jump in size compared to their older products. I agree you won't know how your mount performs with all that moment-arm factor until you try it.?

Re: Askar 185 APO scope on a G11T will it work good

Hey George,?? The camera is an OSC, no filter wheel.? Just reducer spacers, OAG, camera.? What the spacing is I do not know at the moment.? A mini 12vdc computer on top of the scope where all the camera stuff is plugged into.? Simple set up.

Joe

Re: Askar 185 APO scope on a G11T will it work good

I'd say it's at the limit depending on how it's equipped for AP. That applies to the length, too add the RF, whatever back focuser tube(s) are needed, filter wheel and camera and 55" is easily attainable. Now we're in the 50 pound class.?

The?Astro-Physics 175mm f/8 Starfire and TEC APO180FL f/7 180mm have similar specs and $20k price tags when you can find one.? Astro-Physics recommends the? 110 pound capacity for the Starfire.?

Like John, I question that a scope of this size can be delivered anywhere near that price point. AP has sold,?maybe, 30 Starfires? Gearing up to produce optics of this size involves a large infusion of capital. Unless it's for military purposes, Zi has clamped down on bank loans. Offshore investors are wary of ventures in China.?

10 North Electro-Optics Group Co., Ltd. is a subdivision of NORINCO, a major supplier to the PLA. 10 North has 13,000 employees.?It is headquartered in Xi¡¯an, and has operations in seven provinces; Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, Zhejiang, Yunnan, Jiangsu and Shandong and Shanghai.?Jiaxing Sharpstar Optical Instrument Co., Ltd. is located?in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province and near both Jiangsu and Shanghai. So there may be some connection.

Hi All
I am wanting to do the L6 upgrade on my two GT11 mounts. The kit from Losmandy has an 8gb MicroSD card. I am wanting to use a spare 16gb MicroSD and copy the upgrade contents from the 8gb card for use in the second mount.

Does anyone know what maximum size the Gemini 2 MicroSd slot will accept?

Thanks

Ted?
AFAIK the Gemini 2 requires FAT32 formatted micro SD cards. FAT32 is a single 32GB partition. You can use larger capacity media but Windows cannot natively access more than 32GB and has a 4GB file limit under FAT32. That said there are utilities but why not just buy 32GB micro SD cards, they are cheap and readily available.? ?

That¡¯s not a long ¡®frac ¨C it¡¯s only an f7 and about 48¡± long IIRC.?? A very long and heavy old school planetary ¡®frac at f18 or f20 might be another issue.,

?

I apologize, this question does not deal with weight, this scope is less than half the mounts capacity.? My question deals with 40 pounds at 48 inches long.? I realize this scope is new and I intend to wait for legitimate reviews.

It is just that weight, physical size and focal length all work against pointing and tracking.?? Looking at Astrobin, I don't see anyone with a G11T doing anything beyond a 130 - 140mm refractor.? TEC for their 180, recommends 10 micron and AP 1100.? Machines with 7.2 RA and Dec gears.?? Both the Askar 185APO and the TEC 180FL are similar in size and weight.

I'm not expecting the Askar 185 to even come close to the TEC 180 optically.
