Re: Great Conjunction from southern california

Great shots Brian. My planetary scope a C9.25 was sadly on the bench. So I had to use my Stellarvue 105 F/7? Here blown up to 100% is what I got.

Re: Jupiter-Saturn conjunction sequence (GM-8)

Beautiful work there, Marc!

All I got was eyefuls with Astro Binoculars as we had the Son and 3 Grandkids here for dinner.

Re: Degreaser / Cleaner..

I also remember AMAM for solvents safe on any anodizing. Alcohol, Mild soap, Acetone, MEK. Mild soaps are low alkalinity, no acids no ammonia no alkaline cleaners.?

Great work there, Brian!

We had the 3 youngest Grandkids over for a Viewing and Dinner Party.
I set up the Binocular Mount in the Driveway and we took turns looking through the 20X-80mm 's.
I and the Step-Son could see the planets, and Jupiter's moons without aid as the sky darkened.
But alas, very soon it set, and all were hungry. So we abandoned the event to fill our bellies.
I may try again tonight. But personally, I was disappointed. Not as bright as I had hoped. And not as close as I'd been lead to believe they'd be.
But it'll be 800 years until they get that close again. Maybe by then folks will be sitting on IO with front row seats. ;^)

Re: Degreaser / Cleaner..

Hi Derek,

The most effective bulk degreaser is mechanical, wipe it off with clean cotton rags and clean toothbrushes. Then use a safety solvent like kerosene or mineral spirits and be sure to let the solvent evaporate before lighty applying fresh lubricant.?

Try to avoid getting solvent on the black anodizing, I am not sure what type anodizing is used these days and it might damage the anodizing. It shouldn't but this is California and many processes are not what they once were.?

Re: Great Conjunction from southern california

Great shot!?

Re: Great Conjunction from southern california

Thanks Bill - yes definitely composite, though just different exposure times.?

I brought three different cameras and a couple different barlows because I didn't have any chance to do a trial run, and most of them ended up a bust (my DSLR produced rubbish)

Super lucky to have an exceptionally clear night in the mountains with almost no wind at times, a combination which is uncommon

Degreaser / Cleaner..

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

What do I use to remove all the grease / clean the ring and worm gears of my G11??

?

Brake Cleaner?? Alcohol??

?

I have to rebuild my G11, as it now regularly goes ¡°chink¡± and stops while slewing at high speed.. Almost 100% sure it¡¯s mechanical, as I can do the GOTO again and it will continue to the target.. It¡¯s possible it is also a power glitch from the AC.. I did have to replace the AC ¨C DC brick that doesn¡¯t work, but the ¡°chink¡± has happened enough that it seems to do it it roughly the same spot..

?

Now that the Great Conjunction is almost past, it is a good time to dismount, disassemble, diagnose, detail..

?

TIA..

?

Derek

Re: Case for G1 Hand Controller

oh meant to ask....can it be plastic welded together?

The old case appears to be " PacTec 236 in T for top B for bottom or kit" which is no longer available

Re: Case for G1 Hand Controller

Edited

Ok I'm not 100% sure but:

Case top is:
Case for handset: PACTEC 76700-01 or? 236T "top" (128mm L x 84.35 W x 22.22 D (5" L X 31/3" W x .88" D) Similar to WM-46 kit or CM3-100 kit

Case Bottom is:
Case for handset: PACTEC 76701-01, or 236B "bottom"

That's info I researched I looked for years ago but cannot verify it....its the best I know.?? Of course the case is modified by the mfgr? but .....FWIW

Re: Spring Loaded Worm - Is this normal?

In this picture, the two at bottom. ?I see that they are used during the process of putting things back together, I'm just not clear on what role they play once the worm cover is back in place. ?But there was an ominous comment in one of the videos saying "don't touch these".?

With regard to sound, I was referring to slewing. ?Tracking is almost inaudible (thankfully!).

Thanks!
