I'm fairly certain this is true if you live in the right place.? ?Not sure where the OP is located but in Saginaw by the time it gets to be almost dark Jupiter is an hour away from being out of view.? Most folks are just getting setup about that time.??

Please sign you posts with your name or at least a handle.??
?
Unlike most folks here replying I am an ASIAIR user and Losmandy Gemini user as well as an L6 beta team contributor.? I have been using the ASIAIR system since 2020.??
?
The ASIAIR is a free standing astro imaging hardware and software system that is made up of a dedicated hardware controller that can only be used with ZWO peripherals and many popular mount control systems.? There are no Windows drivers to load and none is available and non needed, the ASIAIR control app and UI interface is only available for Android and ios based devices.?
?
Do this: update to the latest Gemini 2 firmware versions namely: MU 6.12 and HC 1.64 using GFU or the manual ftp method.? You should have also programed your Gemini 2 PIC controllers with the latest v3 code.? Update your ASIAIR app to the latest version found on the ZWO website.? The ASIAIR app will automatically update your ASIAIR controller hardware's firmware id it is behind on firmware versions.??
?
The ASIAIR Wi-Fi native mode is as a standard router, it creates its own network and can route packets and Wi-Fi with its own SSID.? You use your phone's WI-FI and connect to whatever SSID you assigned or the default if you didn't.? Go to the menu and configure the ASIAIR to use a fixed IP address, use the standard 192.168.1.1 for a freestanding router which is what the ASIAIR's normal default Wi-FI mode is from the factory.? ?
?
If you don't already use static IP addressing set your Gemini to use a fixed static IP address on the same network as the ASIAIR by unselecting the DHCP check box and setting the IP and netmask appropriately.? If the Gemini is already using static IP addressing change the ASIAIR networking IP address and netmask information to put the AIR on the same network as the Gemini.??
?
Write that Gemini IP address down as that is what you will use to get into the Gemini's web interface.? The only way into the ASIAIR that you should be using is through the ASIAIR's app.? Do not try to get into the ASIAIR directly using a browser or other terminal app.??
?
Fire up the ASIAIR app and then just connect to the ASIAIR UI and configure the app to use the Losmandy mount.? Be sure to set the Losmandy specific network settings to use UTP and the matching ports etc copied over from the Gemini.?
?
Now off you go.??

Re: Installing Gemini-2 Driver on an Android Tablet
Brendan... please read the post I gave above.? ASI Air would not allow any input into the Default Gateway data field.
?
Look... I have a Losmandy mount.? This is a Losmandy forum.? But someone with familiarity connecting a Losmandy mount to the ASI Air is going to have to respond to this.

Re: Installing Gemini-2 Driver on an Android Tablet
Default gateway is usually same as primary DNS ….which is your router IP address

Re: Installing Gemini-2 Driver on an Android Tablet
Thanks for that.? We did try USB, and I think we're close on Ethernet connection if we just get by on the Default Gateway input.
|
Re: Installing Gemini-2 Driver on an Android Tablet
You may wish to try USB first just to make sure everything works. Later on you can try ethernet.
?
USB is almost plug and play ;).
?
I have no clue, like, at all, how to help with ethernet and the AsiAir so someone else will have to chime in lol.

Re: Making a model with limited sky visibiltiy.
The goto feature works even without building a model, it will just not be very accurate but will slew the mount to the general vicinity of your intended target. After that initial slew you simply nudge the mount with your hand controller the last few degrees to finish centering your target.
?
If you are intent on building the model regardless, then just search for the stars that are actually visible and use those. You can press GOTO->BRIGHT STAR and then press the up/down arrows to search for the star, center it in your field of view with the HC and then from the main menu go to ALIGN->ALIGNMENT.
?
If the stars used are nearby to each other the model will only be accurate within that area but, then again, that’s the only area you have visibility over so you should be fine
?
If, on then other hand, you’re imaging, you don’t really need to build a model. Simply tell your imaging software to “slew and center” your target. It will do the initial slew, take a picture, plate solve, sync the mount to the correct current coordinates, determine where it needs to move and by how much and do a second slew. Rinse and repeat as needed. All without user intervention beyond the “slew and center” command :)

Re: Gemini II Hand Control issues
Touch screens are not very fond of cold climates :). Using your finger nails instead of fingertips is a good option. Also a pen or an old style stylus (the plastic, pointy tipped ones) work in a pinch. Modern capacitance stylus aren’t very helpful but still better than gloved fingers lol
|
Re: Gemini II Hand Control issues
Also on the hand control topic, I'm in Michigan and it doesn't seem to like the cold climate at all.? I've never had it fail altogether, but I have to press the buttons several times to get them to operate.? ?Is that just the nature of the beast?? Does using a stylus help?? ?Sometimes when I tap repeatedly, it starts talking to me in German.? Alles gut.? Ich kann ein bisschen Deutsch.?

Making a model with limited sky visibiltiy.
My G11 is my "backyard" setup with a Celestron 9.25" Edge HD OTA.? I have limited visibility due to proximity to my garage and tall trees nearby.? When I ask for "help making a model" I can't see many of the bright stars, so I have never been able to use the "go-to" features at all since there is no way for me to tell the mount where it's pointing.? Is there a workaround???

Re: Gemini II Hand Control issues
I'm embarrassed, but I thought they were up!? ?I think that's the issue--can't select them for that reason.

Re: Installing Gemini-2 Driver on an Android Tablet
OK.... we tried connecting to the mount last night, with ASI Air.
?
To my amazement, ZWO has drivers for various mounts, including the Gemini 2 driver, pre-loaded in the ASI Air unit.? I do not know how recent the driver is.? We were setting up the IP address page in the ASI Air, for Ethernet connection.? We had the top IP address different, between the ASI Air, and the mount, which is the correct thing to do.? We input the same Subnet Mask numbers, but the ASI Air would not allow input of the Default Gateway numbers.
?
Does anyone know how to get by that???

Re: Disconnection Losmandy G11 GEMINI LV4
Thank you all for your help. I cleaned the connectors and replaced the cable between the Gemini and the RS232 adapter. I will be able to run tests when the weather is okay, and if needed, I will replace the RS232 adapter.
Is the connector on the Gemini side an RJ22?
|
Re: Installing Gemini-2 Driver on an Android Tablet
As far as I know, the gemini driver you download from that website is for Windows only. Also, I don’t think there are drivers for android but you don’t really need them either.?
?
Now the required disclaimer, I’m not an AsiAir user but I’ve read enough reports to get an idea. If your friend wants to use the AAir and the android tablet, first he’ll need to connect the mount to the AAir with it’s own drivers (zwo has their own drivers for Gemini). Once the mount is connected and recognized you can access the AAir through the tablet, which will be connected directly to the AAir via wifi. It is the AAir that will connect and control the mount, not the android tablet.
?
Hopefully I make some sense with this convoluted explanation :)
?
Good luck

I realized that if you are trying this at night the problem is not the Gemini but the fact that Jupiter and Saturn are up in the day not at night right now.? So if as I posted.ylu have everything set correctly this is what the Gemini 2 is supposed to be doing.? Try it now in the daytime.? Jupiter and Saturn will be available to GOTO and the Moon and planets will not.?

What is pre-selected?? Only solar system bodies that are up will be enabled.??
?
Verify your time (do you have Daylight Savings Time locally?) and / or if using NTP that your NTP server IP is valid and that your Gemini 2 has access to Internet service.? Also confirm your GPS coordinates are correct as well as signed correctly.??
?
If these things are correct and your battery is fresh you should be GTG.??

Re: Gemini II Hand Control issues
Hi David, I’m not sure I can help much but, are you sure they are up at the time you want to observe them? Saturn is very close to the sun and rises close to sunrise. Jupiter is better placed but sets fairly early at night. Gemini grays out options that are not visible at the time so you can’t select them, I’m assuming this is what you are experiencing?
?
In any case, it’d be nice to know what you mean by “pre-selected”, as well as HC and Gemini software versions, just in case it actually is a bug in the software.
?
Let us know?
