If you didn't buy the mount and Gemini 2 new from Losmandy you should verify the firmware versions. Go into the HC - Hand Controller - sub menu then select the "Info" screen and you will see the HC

Yes, have the 4x encoder settings turned on with L6. There's no reason not to, and a few good reasons why it might help.

The difference is that the software can now detect the position of the motors with 4x the resolution that it could with the old firmware (assuming that the servos IC’s firmware has been updated).
