Re: Hand controller won't boot
Hi John,
Long time no see! This heen reported a few times and often the card reseating resolved the issue. If you can still get into the Gemini 2 using an Ethernet connection and the Gemini says the battery voltage is over 2.9V the battery should not be the issue. But if you open the Gemini 2 face plate up I suggest installing a new battery just because the battery is at least half way gone and batteries are inexpensive. Be sure to replace the battery correctly or the battery will likely die sooner than later. This is also import to follow because? in some cases the Gemini 2 controllers can be damaged. This issue is due to a design flaw discovered in the NXP ARM processor chips used to power the Gemini 2 controllers.. A word of caution on opening the hand controller, be careful with it. By many accounts they are easy to damage when being opened.? -- Chip Louie Chief Daydreamer Imagination Hardware? ? ?Astrospheric Weather Forecast - South Pasadena, CA? |

Hand controller on G11 Gemini 2 won't boot, freezes on "Connecting to Gemini...". One year old and I switched power supplies.John, You may also want to try to reseat the SD cards in the Gemini 2 and the hand controller as well. They can get jarred loose and won't do their thing. In the HC, the SD card is a bit harder to get at and you will need to carefully unplug the long multi-pin connector of the touch screen to get to it, after taking out the 4 screws that hold the outer plastic case together. Hold the connector at the far ends and slowly wiggle side to side to remove. In case you have not removed these before, the SD card is held down with a metal clip which must be slid down and flipped open before the card can be removed. Good luck, John ? -- _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Losmandy G11G2 on pier; refurbed Losmandy G11 with OnStep controller; SkyShed design roll-off observatory; ZWO ASI2600MM-P; ZWO ASI071MC; Sky-Watcher Esprit 100 ED with field flattener; Celestron C925 Edge HD with 0.7XFR, William Optics Zenithstar 61 APO; PHD2, Sequence Generator Pro and PixInsight user |
Re: First WIKI entry
Bob I also wanted to say kudos. I believe your wiki is the first on this forum. It made me realize what an underutilized tool that is. The wikis are editable by all in the group and your post is one example of an information share. I know Paul and Rene and others put a lot of effort into Gemini-2.com and we should not be all sitting around waiting for them to update it for Level 6. Your wiki should be an inspiration to all who have useful information to take the time to sit down and write it out for all of posterity.?

First WIKI entry
Based on the interest in mounting systems for mounting various accessories, including counter weights, as discussed in the topic "Balancing Scope", I have created a WIKI to describe some of the various mounting systems I have used to add and mount various gadgets and capabilities to my scope.
The WIKI is titled?NATO Rails & Clamps and other Telescope Accessories Mounting Systems. Feel free to provide feedback. Bob |
Re: Balancing Scope
With the below mod I'm able to balance my Dec axis. The 3rd axis counter weight balances the electronic focuser, 50mm finder scope and the Star Surfer on the opposite side of the scope.
I replaced the 5 lb counter weight knob with a Losmandy Tripod Knob. It has a 3/8" TPI 16 through hole. The shaft is a 3/8" aluminum rod with one end threaded (3/8" TPI 16). The black counter weight is from my Star Adventurer.?? |
Re: Balancing Scope
I got some PMs regarding these accessories.? So, continuing this thread, I put together a WORD doc (in PDF) with more information and some pictures of the individual components.? I might turn this into a WIKI page.? In the mean time, attached is the document.? Feedback is welcomed.

G11G On Primalucelab C120
I finally have what I believe to be the main rig for my future ROR observatory. The adapter plate on the pier is for an EQ8R, that was all that was in stock. I was considering that as an option anyway. It has a center 1/2" hole so adding 6 more holes was not a big deal. It is extremely rigid with no perceptible vibrations when it is banged.
