Locked Re: Grease Wars

Folks, we've heard from the manufacturer, and that should be enough to settle the question of a recommended grease. Quoting again, from Bill's message:

Hello Bill,
I have confirmed with Scott Losmandy that the Low Temp Grease that we provide in the LMMK, Losmandy Mount Maintenance Kit, is good to use on the worm and worm gear mesh.
The person saying that this is not good a grease is incorrect. The other greases such as the CRC that are being talked about on the forums are NOT good for Losmandy mounts and are not approved as some of the users have suggested using.
?
SCOTT LOSMANDY APPROVES BOTH THE JET-LUBE MP-50 GREASE AND THE LOW TEMP GREASE PROVIDED IN THE LMMK FOR THE WORM AND WORM GEAR MESH.
?
Scott when assembling the mount does use the Jet-Lube MP-50. He has been using that for years and he is a man of habit :)
You are more than welcome to purchase the Jet-Lube Grease from us. It is $25.00 for a small vial.
It¡¯s really expensive and that is why we dont include it in the kit. The low temp grease is sufficient.
Maybe we should make 2 kits, one that includes the Jet-Lube grease also, but charge the premium price for it.
If you would like to purchase a vial of the MP-50 please call us on Tuesday to place your order over the phone.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Kindest regards,

Any other recommendations are just an opinion. Unless you've managed to build and support thousands of units of GM8's, G11s, and Titan mounts over the past 30 years, Scott's recommendation trumps any such opinion. It doesn't mean that there's only one grease out there, but it is the one recommended and thoroughly tested with these mounts. Use other greases at your own risk. Personally, I have had no problems with different greases I've used for decades, but I would not recommend anyone else use the same grease, simply because I can't guarantee that it'll work for everyone. What's more, I'm not in a position to fix and support others should this grease cause problems in the future.

I declare Grease Wars over :) If anyone asks for a recommended grease, the ones recommended by Scott should top the list.
