thank you for your analysis of the log and your recommendations. The bearings are not feeling smooth when inserted into the blocks and turned by hand. The bearings need some force to push into the blocks. I already have got new bearings, but did not figure out how to enlarge the hole in the blocks properly. I guess I lack the right tools for this. I also would want to avoid making it worse by deforming the hole into some egg like shape. Unfortunately the one piece worm block is out of stock currently at my local dealer. If it is back in stock I think I will give it a try.
The Avalon kit works well for me and was the middle option between diy onstep and much more expensive Gemini 2.
