Re: Dec "drifts" randomly, after meridian flips...

Hi Anthony

i'd really need to see the guidelogs

I am using a G11 G2 and have been for 2-3 years.

I have an issue that exhibits in PHD2 Guiding Assistant as bad polar alignment, and sometimes exhibits after a meridian flip, or when I start off the evening, with PHD2 "chasing" Dec on one side for a long time (15 minutes-1/2 hour?) before settling and acting normally again.

I usually actually get decent guiding numbers while this is happening, just all Dec corrections are on one side for a long time.

Everything is decently balanced. Polar alignment checks out when set or confirmed with Polemaster. As I mentioned, after a while it settles and no longer drifts/"pulls" in one direction

Maybe it's Dec backlash, but I have backlash compensation set up and it works well once the issue settles out, (occasionally switching sides...), and PHD2 is guiding from the one side fine, (if turned off, for example during GA, Dec drifts steadily.

Mount is securely bolted to substantial pier, this happens with both my 10" Newtonian and 8" SCT, so not an issue with overloading the mount or tripod moving/settling, etc.

?

Any thoughts on a cause, solution?
