Re: Cleaners

Good one. I have currently quite some fun with this. I started photography in 2000 ( not Astro ) and have 2 dozen lenses which in good old photographers/engineers obsession I thought are meticulous. Now with Astrophotography I got taught a lesson. Case in point some artifacts - I have an UV filter on ( Heliopan - well regarded, pretty expensive, 16 layers MC ) and I cleaned it 6-7 times already and cannot get it clean enough for Astrophotography.? Different microfiber cloths, different lens cleaning solutions etc. I will get ROR solution next week to which I will report back here if it worked.

To everyone not knowing what I am talking about. Please take a flashlight and shine it at a very flat angle onto an clear filter. Then you will see. In standard light or looking through it you will not see the slightest imperfection. With camera lenses you cannot get the angle so you really never fully see the smudges on it.

All that said, to not just whine but also help. My lens cleaning go to standard is the NIKON Lens pen still. I would not go aftermarket ( I have tried ). They are pretty good. One side has a brush, the other side a felt pad with rubber backing that is dipped in some cleaning solution.?

I would never do a sensor chip myself ( only blow away dust ), but never touch it. Nikon charges some $50 to have the pros do it which is cheap compared to the cost of the camera.?
