Re: Entering HIP Star Coordinates Using Hand Controller?

Hi all,

I created a HIP catalog in GUC (gemini) format, it seems to work so here's the file:
?

NOTE: this is not an officially supported catalog, so use at your own risk (there's no risk of damaging anything, worst that happens is it doesn't work or slews to the wrong place)

to use it you need to upload this to the Gemini SD card in a directory HCFirmware (you will likely need to create that directorY0
then you use the hand controller to upload it to the hand controller database

Menu->HC->SD Card->Upload Files

(if you uploaded it successfully to the Gemini SD Card and put it in the HCFirmware folder, it will show up there)

It will then show up as a catalog option in the GOTO menu

for some reason it shows as "HIP (with starting quote) so you just type in the number after that. It should show "HIP27446 for example

notes:?

It takes a super long time to upload to the HC (although uploading to Gemini is super fast).?I'm talking like 15 minutes or more. It's about 10x bigger than any other catalog on the HC and has about 117k entries.? I could only use HIP1 data and not HIP2. HIP2 coordinates were only available in decimal and i couldn't find an easy way to mass convert to HH:MM:SS

I wanted to see how hard it would be to create a custom catalog in the format Gemini expects, and it's? pretty straightforward. Finding the data and getting into the right format is the hardest part

See what you think

Brian

Maybe this would help ,haven't navigated this in years but used it for Annotation in PixInsight.
