I agree with what you said.? I would add though that the flex couplers are fairly stiff and pres the worm into the cog wheel.? If you tighten it in the longitudinal direction, then screw it down, I found that the motors often bind up.? My solution for this is to use shims to move the worm slightly away from the cog wheel.? For now I used some foil from a sardine can doubled up twice, pressing it between the block and the frame, and that seems to work.
As an aside, using manual pressure for the worm is a recipe for disaster.? To be honest I had zero luck with my mount and I believe this is the main reason.? Maybe the Gemini motors are stronger than the EQStar and Celestron ones but I'm not going to shell out a fortune for them.? Losmandy should support cheaper solutions if they want to be competitive.
I will report back when I get it out.
I want to ask you one thing though - do you place a Losmandy mount on grass?? Or are there concrete blocks hidden under those pads?
