Re: AstroGadget goto kit for G11/GM8

I just put the?EQStar?on a G-11. ?So far so good, however I've only been able to do indoor testing up to this point. ?I¡¯d be interested to hear from someone who has actually used it in the field.

Some observations:

?

The mounting plates on the motors are bright orange, not black. ?Not a huge issue, but it does look rather comical to me.

The couplers are good quality, don't appear to be warped, and fit just right.

The mount is rather quiet now that I have it adjusted properly.

I need to come up with a better option for mounting the control box. ?The controller heats up and loosens adhesive on the Velcro strip I put on it. ?It¡¯s not hot by any means, but it¡¯s certainly warm.

The USB to serial adapter was recognized by Windows 10 immediately. ?

It connected flawlessly to EQMOD and slewed to what appeared to be the correct general direction of selected targets.

I haven't tried the WiFi module and probably won't. ?It's in a 3d printed case. ?I opted not to take it apart to see what chipset it's using, but someone braver than me might venture to do that.

?

The next test will be plate solving and guiding when clear skies and free time converge..this weekend is looking promising.

To get the EQStar?
Updater?application to work, I had to manually set the COM port of the provided USB to serial adapter to 2 in the Device Manager. ?It does not appear to be necessary to install the included virtual com port application on Windows 10. ?

?

The ¡°factory¡° settings for the G11 as I took it out of the box are:

?

RA Reverse = True (Checked)

RA Gear Ratio = 360

RA Motor Current, (% max) = 90

?

DEC Reverse = False (Unchecked)

DEC Ratio = 360

DEC Motor Current, (% max) = 90
