I used a 1/8th inch drill bit to very carefully drill out the 3mm ID of the McLennan pinion gear to fit the new type motor.??

The McLennan pinion gear is steel (it is magnetic).? I held the steel pinion gear in wooden jaw inserts in my small shop vice, then used a hand drill to size the pinion gear ID.? Of course, you must aim straight!

I cleaned the pinion gear and the HiTorque motor shaft with isopropyl alcohol, then used a tiny bit of superglue to adhere the new pinion gear in place.? You must do that, else friction alone is not enough and the motor will spin without the pinion moving.???(I tried and failed at first...then added the superglue...wasted an evening of shooting.)

There are a few other adaptors needed too. The old gearbox output shaft is 5mm OD and the Oldham coupler is 5mm to to fit that.? But the McLennan gearbox output shaft is only 4mm so again you need a thin 4mm to 5mm diameter sleeve to fit these together.??

I documented all my McLennan gearbox retrofits, in an extensive "How To" report. I recently revised that report for both the old motor (2mm motor shaft) and HiTorque motor (1/8th inch motor shaft).? This was mentioned by mark Crossley (Wilmslow Astro), "Unlike the Losmandy gearbox all the ratios are integer to the worm period, and so should be candidates for removal via PEC".......which means easily guided out and also PEC removed.

It appears to me, my limited Mechanical abilities, that the PE is very smooth.? This is what this McLennan Gearbox does!? Since many users have the "high torque" motor.? These pinions are 3.175mm ID.? The MecLennan pinion is 3mm ID, thus easy to ream to the dimensions required, thus maintains pinion centroid accuracy.? Although expanding reamers are not cheap!
