Subject: Re: [Losmandy_users] Re: 492 drive RA seems to be running too fast
Lets see if I now understand the problem and solution.
The 492 unit connected to a GM8 ran at the wrong tracking speed (by a
factor of exactly 2).
It now seems the 492 unit was made for a G11, not a GM8. The 1/2 number of
RA ring teeth of the GM8 (compared to the G11) made the GM8 run 2X the
correct speed.
Now... to correct that 492 to be capable of the GM8, you need to replace at
least the PROM chip inside the 492. (It has only a single 27C64 EPROM.)
Now the questions:
Are GM8 coded EPROMs available?
If not, is the code for the GM8 version available ( so someone like me with
a programmer / reader can make them)?
I just pulled the 27C64 from my G11 492 unit. I looked to see if there is
an apparent coded value to modify for the GM8.
I found nothing in ASCII except the last bytes of the chip, which say
Hollywood.General.Machining (c)1992.
So far as I can tell, there is no simple way to change a byte value to set
it for the GM8.
Or...does someone have a 492 that works with the GM8 already? I could copy
that.
(-------but wait!---- what switch from yonder window breaks?----)
Taking the cover off the 492 box shows a hiden switch "SW8" inside. What
does that switch do? ( Any chance that changes the tracking rate from G11
to GM8? )
Stay well,
Michael
