Audio Chip?
25
I was wondering if Lab 599 has changed the audio chip, the TDA7056at? There seems to be a pretty high failure rate and I am concerned because the chip is no longer produced. There was a reference to them maybe having changed to another chip. Is this correct? I am curious because it seems that getting it fixed and or getting a new chip may be an issue. Larry n0sa

Question for CW ops
4
I have found the keyer on the TX500 a bit difficult to use. I am used to my KX2 with full QSK, and realize this is slower to switch between transmissions, but the keyer itself seems a bit laggy and I make keying mistakes. Is there an adjustment or have you just gotten accustomed to the keyer over time? Admittedly, I need more practice with the radio.

Newbie question linked to connecting morse keys
7
Just joined group. And am very munch a newbie to the discovery. But really struggling to get paddles or straight keys to work! Not clear if it is a settings issue, a user issue or hardware problem. Have followed manual closely. But my paddle only work on one side - despite being set to AUTO iambic A. And the straight key sends a continuous tone - despite being set for a straight key. I¡¯m currently using half my paddle as a straight key! Any ideas or help gratefully received!!

FT4/FT8 TX sounds coming directly from radio
3
Hey All, Just recently, I started hearing the Tx sounds for FT4 & FT8 coming directly from my TX500. There is no MIC/SP hooked up and I put my ear up to the radio and could hear the TX sounds. Any else have this issue? Should I contact support? Thanks! Anthony KF0GTR

tx-500 lost audio output
10
Several weeks backs I was preparing to activate a local park and the audio output stopped working on my tx-500. I was sending a low power carrier (tone with power=30) into my Elecraft t1 tuner at 28mhz to obtain an impedance match and the radios audio output stopped working. I was using the headphone adapter and have verified (with the speaker mic mic) that the issue exists inside the radio. The radio seems to.work as it should in all other respects, just no audio out. From reading previous posts on this group it looks like the audio IC may have failed. From what I understand the chip is an NXP TDA7056AT and many have failed before. I've reached out (email and called) to Lab599's US repair service and did not initially get a response. Several days later I sent another email and got an answer. The answer said they were traveling for the holidays and would get back to me. Nothing... So I sent two more emails. Nothing yet... I sent another email to Lab599's support email today asking what to do to initiate a repair. On the site they say contact the service folks before sending the radio. I cannot.get a response. Is this typical customer service for Lab599? Can anyone please suggest an alternate service that would be willing to troubleshoot the radio's audio output issue or just simply reach the chip? I love the radio and would.like to put it back I to service. Thank you, Scott Fusilier N4AAJ

Yet another BP500 Questions
2
Mine came without batteries, but HRO ordered from the Jungle and direct shipped to me. But that's not my question. It is this: I know that lithium cells are terribly picky about charging temps. Is the PB500 BMS programed to safeguard the cells below 0¡ãC? Thanks and 73, Ron

DIG mode seamlessly adjustable BP filter
3
#firmware
#varahf
#winlink
Hi Guys, Has there been any more progress on the manually adjustable filter option in DIG mode much like the one in voice mode? If it isn¡¯t technically possible for whatever reason, is it at least possible adding a 2300hz and a 500hz filter option to accommodate for the two main VARA bandwidths? Thanks Martin

Operator error: Connected to 18V power source
13
The fuse went instantly. I replaced the power cord with a new Digirig cord and the TX500 will not power up when connected to a Samlex 12V power source. I have not opened the TX500 up and am wondering if I need to send it in for repair or is there something simple that I can do. I purchased it in 7/2023 but this doesn't seem to be a warranty issue; it's the result of my stupidity. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike

Lab599 Power Input
4
Hello, I'm purchasing a Lab599 soon and in reading the manual (pg 10), it says "Use a power source or battery with a voltage of 9 to 15 volts and a current of at least 3 Amps." ... In the wiring diagram manual, it says to use 3A Max ... So my question is, is it at least 3 Amps or is 3 Amps max? I have a Samlex 1223 (23 Amp) and wondering if that would work for the radio as a power source? Thanks!

SSB on 10m - strong feedback not heard on other bands
25
I did a SSB SOTA activation the other day and worked my up through the bands. Good QSOs on 40m, 20m, 15m. Finally on 10m, when I tx the sound is much different with strong feedback heard through the headphones. SWR was still 1.0 - 1.1 on a resonant multiband EFHW. TX power was 10w. No other settings were changed from the previous band. Anyone else run into this issue? Thanks.

Question on Digimode Use of TX-500
8
Hi All, I've had this TX-500 for a long time, but have been off the air for a while, I am back and updated to the 1.19.01 firmware this morning (from 1.09.01 I think). CW and SSB have been working fine over the last week on the old firmware, and appear to be fine on the new firmware, but I went to do some digimode work this morning and have found an issue which wasn't present when I last did digimode on the old FW, around a year ago. I was using Vara and Winlink, but have tested the same on WJST-X. Cat control works fine, and audio from the rig to the PC through a MiniProSC USB soundcard works fine too, I can receive FT8 without issue. However, when I went to TX, there was no power indicated on the meter, and when I switched to the MIC meter, no audio incoming registered. The odd thing was that when I enabled monitor on the rig, the audio from the PC was heard on the monitor, so the soundcard appears to be ok, and the audio is getting to the rig, but it doesn't appear to be making it into the signal path where it's supposed to. The USB soundcard is connected to the REM/DATA socket, and as I said, I can get audio from the rig fine, and audio seems to be getting to the rig so I can hear it in the monitor on the speaker mic, but it does not seem to be entering the DIG signal path. I may have done something stupid, but this did work previously, albeit a long time ago. Any ideas?

Minimum Power at 10%
8
When set to 10% power output and keying with CW (or using Tone power also at 10%) into a dummy load, running latest firmware v1.19.01, I get the following display on the TX500 meter: BAND TX500 LP100A ===== ===== ====== 160m 0.8W 1.42W 80m 0.9W 1.52W 40m 0.9W 1.48W 30m 1.7W 2.31W 20m 1.1W 1.62W 17m 1.2W 1.69W 15m 2.0W 2.44W 12m 1.4W 1.80W 10m 1.7W 1.99W 6m 2.0W 2.15W I'm not certain about the LP-100A accuracy at these low power levels. When driving the PA500 amp (from DIY599) I'd like to use lower power than the lowest 10% setting that the TX500 provides. Input Voltage about +13.5VDC Note: PA500 only operates on 80m - 10m bands. *Q: Are these normal power levels?* -- 73, Norm/KC1BMD

TX500 and airport security
18
Considering taking my TX500 to England next month. Does anyone have experience carrying the radio as hand baggage through US and UK airport security? I was wondering if its ¡°military¡± appearance might spark questions. The battery will go in a checked bag. Thanks. 73 Dave N3CI

TX-500 (Almost) Full Portable Station For Sale - UK
2
Due to a change in circumstances, I reluctantly need to put my TX-500 up for sale. However, this is more than just the transceiver. Included is a waterproof peli-style case, all the stuff that came with it, a mAT-10 tuner and an rfcomms.co.uk 705HF Matching unit. Just add a battery, some coax and a length of wire and you're on the air. I have used the TX-500 for SSB, CW and digimode ops and had excellent results, with contacts all over Europe and into the US, and regular Winlink email sessions in both directions. The data connector has a standard 6pin connector on the other end, like that used for G4ZLP DigiMaster interfaces, or the Yaesu interface units. The battery connector has an XT60 connector, as I have a load of model airplane 3S Li-Ion packs which I used with the rig. I cannot actually locate the charger for the mAT-10 tuner, it is showing as still having 50% charge, and if I find it before this sells, I'll include it. Else it should be easy enough to source a replacement, or take the lithium ion cells out to charge them. Original boxes for both radio and tuner will be included. I am looking for ?850 ONO + ?20 towards fully insured UK shipping. I can provide pictures and video of the rig working on request. 73, Stefan MI0PYN
