Fuse burnt and TX-500... mute.
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello the group. I am very worried. MyTX-500 turned itself off: 3A fuse burnt. I replaced it but the fuse blows every time as soon as I connect the DC connector and without switching on the transceiver. Has anyone ever had the problem? Is this serious doctor ? 73 F5NFB - Jo.

I was tuning the transceiver to the working frequency.

I wasn't on the show. I only use CW mode so no data link plugged in. The power supply was a little high in voltage (14.4V displayed on the TX) and I lowered it to 13.8V. That's all. Le 26/02/2023 ¨¤ 15:56, Lou N9LTW a ¨¦crit?:
We need more info. What what are you doing with the radio when the first fuse blew? What mode were you using and did you have a data cable attached at the time, and if so what were you using it for? |
From the voltmeter integrated in the TX-500 just before the fuse blown

14.4 v? I know the radio is rated at 15 volts maximum, but that is getting close. And where are you getting that voltage reading from? |
Hi Jo,
Mine did exactly the same last summer. Two diodes inside had fried upon inspection by the UK Lab599 workshop. They said it was most likely caused by a reverse polarity over-current/voltage. I knew this was not the case as I had used the radio that morning to test for a field day. When I went back to the radio, the fuse was popped and the radio dead. The only way I could get the radio back was to accept liability (even though I did NOTHING wrong) and pay about ?40 to get it fixed. They said the was a strong burnt smell when the radio casing was opened. Not quite sure how, but the diodes which failed delivered a dead short over the power pins on the GX-12 connector. If this tests as a short then most likely you have fried diodes too. Now I knew I was right and operated the radio correctly and over voltage/current was imposible from a battery that had not been disconnected and has connectors which cannot be reversed. Very frustrating but it should be an easy fix for the authorised workshop. I am still convinced it was a bad diode and it took its' mate with it. Please let me know if you measure a dead short over the power pins. Best 73 de George MM0JNL |

I had the same problem about a year ago. The main board had to be replaced. The U.S.A. service office worked with the head office to isolate the responsible part but it was easier to replace the whole board I think. Unfortunately, there isn¡¯t much that is user serviceable in the TX-500. The customer service from Lab599 is excellent though and should take care of you so long as parts are available.? 73, Gary K8JOK Sent from Proton Mail for iOS On Sun, Feb 26, 2023 at 09:49, f5nfb.qrp@... <f5nfb.qrp@...> wrote:
