New digital problems

I've been using the TX-500 for about a couple months now, including digital modes without and problems until I started running into two problems on the last two outings.? I am running a GPD Pocket 2 laptop with a sabrent USB soundcard and cabling built as the instructions recommend.

When running WSJTX and Winlink, the first problem I had was that the radio would not unkey after the end of the TX, forcing me to restart the radio. Note that shortly before this, the CAT Usb plug poped apart and I reattached it and secured it with some electrical tape.? That problem has (most of the time) somehow resolved itself although I still have problems from time to time.

On yesterday's outing, the problem I had was that the output power displayed on the radio would drop to 0% after about 3 seconds of TXing on each transmission, suggesting that it was receiving no audio.? After several attempts, it stopped putting out ANY power during TX.? I've tried different cables, different soundcard, same results. Nothing has changed in the software setup in the programs I'm using. Also, yesterday?during operation, upon TXing one time, the frequency display changed from the frequency counter to something like (pwc,,,, ppp,,, w, c,,,,,).? Restarting the radio a couple times fixed this problem.

What do you guys think??

Do you, by any chance, on 20m band? I have _exact_ same problems on 20m, it's RFI and it kills CAT.

The "fix" for now, until i shield most of stuff, is switch to VOX PTT and adjust mic gain in digital mode.

Edited

Yes sir it's on the 20m band primarily, I'm having the same issues with no tx power on 40 as well. Haven't tested other bands yet though.? I use resonant antennas so I'm limited in what I can carry.? When I tried putting the rig in vox, it keyed on and off constantly, although I didn't adjust the vox settings at all.? Are you having the same problem with the tx power cutting out too?

Yes, i had issues with TX power cutting randomly, but only on 20m. 40 and 80 was fine. I'm pretty sure it's sound card suffering from RFI, but mine is cheap chinesium one. I kinda got around it by setting power level to somewhere around 7w. But i also want to mention that in my case i have pretty bad conditions - magloop inside apt which definitely can cause all kinds of RF issues.
You definitely need to adjust VOX sensitivity in TX-500, mine is set to 58 on DIGI, but your mileage may vary
Another possible case for constant tx/rx switching while on VOX might be because my sound card have (it seems) one 4-pin jack port which combines input and output. It needs to be disabled in sound control panel, otherwise WSJT gets confused. Oh, and my sound card had AGC option which also introduces whole bunch of problems, so it needs to be disabled, too. Here is windows sound panel with relevant settings:?https://imgur.com/a/GF3G4zW

I'm using a small Sabrent USB device.? I don't understand why it would be working for this long before having RFI issues.? I also had an identical unit brand new in the box that I pulled out and tried and have the same issue, so there was no failure that I can tell from the soundcard.??

Have you tried ferrite chokes or beads??

Nope, not yet, but planning to do that.

Also, do you have the 10uF capacitor the manual recommended? I had issues until I installed it.

Yes I've got capacitors on them
