Okay a follow up. I disassembled the TX-500 and used a multimeter. I found there is a short between the CENTER PIN and GROUND on the BNC; both inside and out. Any suggestions on where to look to

As can be found in many other similar threads, the TX-500 pulls to ground to activate external amp's PTT input. This sounds like exactly what the amp you describe wants. -- Grace & peace, Tim AF6TF

Mat-705 doesnt have latching relays and must stay on ?and drain battery. I wasnt happy with mine and sold it.

They are when the tuner is on. It has latching relays so you can turn it off after tuning and it retains its settings. Used this way, the battery lasts indefinitely. I charge mine out of caution but
