Heil BM-17 with OEM adapter

Sorry if this question has already been answered - I did look back over previous threads but couldn¡¯t find an answer.?

Does the BM-17 dynamic work with the OEM adapter?

Thanks for your patience ?

Anyone use TX-500 with K45 CW modem?

I don't (yet) know CW, but plan to have part of my learning path be to listen to signals while watching decodes. I just picked up a K45 CW modem for this and am curious about if someone has already paired this modem with the TX-500 and can give advice to help me get started. Advice about using the device itself would be appreciated, but I am most interested in details on getting everything connected together and configured to limit troubleshooting time.

Thanks

Excellent Tim! I'm curious to learn what you think about it.

Re: latest on the BP-500

More TX-500's made it to HRO stock but no BP-500's yet (according to their web-site).

Re: Faulty mic?

That worked. Thanks man!

Re: Faulty mic?

The email address I use (and get replies) is:

usservice. lab599 @g. com??

Groups hides email addresses, so...
Remove the spaces before ".lab" and "com", and add "mail" after "g. com"

And no, HRO does not carry spare mics.

Good luck?

Re: Faulty mic?

I determined the MIC is probably faulty so I contacted support with the information given on the website. Kind of a scary experience I must say since two different email addresses bounced back, I then filled in a web form and later left a VM. No response yet to any of those attempts. Is there another way of contacting US support? I guess it would probably not help much contacting HRO instead since they are unlikely to hold spare mics.

Re: TX-500 with blank screen?

Just adding to this thread my TX500 was in that same "9/mo delayed" repair batch. I received it back via UPS mid July and I'm confident it¡¯s my original radio as I¡¯d glued some neodymium magnets to the bottom edge for my paddle attachment. Plus SN is same as sent in for repair. It¡¯s been working per spec since. Obviously I was upset and dearly missed my rig for the lengthy repair time but stuff happens and understand. Glad John is back currently amongst the healthy and able to provide service for LAB599. Steve/wG?AT

Re: TX-500 with blank screen?

I responded to this thread, but it disappeared. Let me try again and flesh it out a little more::

I sent my radio to HRO for a warranty repair in November 2022. They tested it and sent it to the LAB599 US Service Center in Nevada the first week of December.
During the 9 months it was at the service center, the center's operator was hospitalized, there was Putin's war in Ukraine, the USA refused to accept tech from Russia, LAB599 moved their manufacturing out of Russia, there were shipping problems getting parts from UAE, and a large backlog of repairs built up.

Roman, from LAB599, wrote to me stating that many of the problems with the US Service Center were fixed and that radios were being repaired and shipped out to customers.

My TX-500 was repaired sometime around July 25, 2023, and I was told it would be sent the following Friday (July 28). A week passed and HRO did not receive it, so I asked for the tracking number. The US Service Center was unable to provide it, as they apparently didn't get a receipt for 1 of the 3 radios they shipped with UPS that day - mine. The UPS store they used to ship the radio was unable to locate my radio in their shipping log. The US Service Center operator asked for my radio's serial number and the original UPS tracking number HRO used when they shipped the radio to the Service Center. UPS tracking numbers are recycled after 120 days, so it was impossible to find and give that to the Service Center. Since my radio was worked on less than 3 weeks before this request, I replied to the email stating that they should have the serial number since they would need it should the radio need further warranty repair on the parts they already replaced. The Service Center's reply was that they just wanted to verify the serial number with their records. I was told the Service Center would ship a new-in-the-box TX-500 that had been purchased by the Service Center operator and used one time for a test on the bench, to replace my lost/stolen radio.

A couple of days later, HRO got the radio via UPS and I went to collect it. I took it out of the box and saw that all the accessories (mic, USB adapter, cables, etc.) were still in their sealed plastic bags. The TX-500 was clean and looked in pristine condition. Inside the box was the Quick Start Guide and inside that was Glen's QSL card! We tested the radio at the HRO store and I was able to make it into a WebSDR receiver several hundred miles away and the audio sounded good. The firmware on the radio was v1.15.xx, there was one memory stored, and the B-band was still on its 30m factory-default frequency.

I emailed the Service Center to ask about the QSL card and was assured, "The QSL card must have fallen in the box. That was sent with a different radio. The radio you have I can confirm is the one I purchased from Lab599 and have not used."

I used the radio this weekend and was able to make some great contacts using 10W SSB into a Chameleon LEFS wire antenna with the tip of the wire supported at 34 feet on an MFJ-1916 fiberglass mast. Audio reports were good. The furthest station I made contact with was 1,200 miles away with a 57 signal report on 20m.

I have no evidence to suggest any claim of skullduggery here and, in fact, it's quite probable that Glen's QSL card fell into the box. I just wondered if Glen had the last 4 digits of the radio he sent in, just for my peace of mind.

Re: TX-500 with blank screen?

This is very concerning. Especially since my TX-500 is there for repair.

Has anyone received mine??

Hey Glem,

I ask because the US service center kept my TX-500 for 9 months without working on it. Eventually, they fixed it and shipped it back via UPS. When I didn't get it after a week, I asked for the tracking number and was told they didn't have it! They went to the UPS store and the UPS store was unable to locate the tracking number. Needless to say, I never got my radio back. They sent me a replacement TX-500 and your QSL card was in the box! Written on the QSL card was the description of the trouble you had with the "white screen". I'm trying to determine if I got your repaired radio!

Thanks.

what?!!! that is NOT acceptable!

Faulty mic?

Hey guys,

So I¡¯m still trying to dial my voice settings with a websdr server.?

I¡¯m using these baseline settings:

MIC 5
CMR 5
EQ RX, LF: 45, MF: 70, HF: 85
EQ TX, LF: 45, MF: 70, HF: 85
TX FIL 1, LF: 300, HF 3000
TX FIL 2, LF: 350, HF: 2700

The problem is, I need to set the MIC gain to about 60 in order to even get reading of 3-4 on the MIC scale and to hear myself on the websdr. I would probably not be concerned wasn¡¯t there a consensus here on not to exceed MIC gain 5.
Earlier today I even had a signal report saying I sounded muffled though I can¡¯t confirm that tonight hearing myself.??

Do I have a faulty mic? Is it hard of hearing? ?It¡¯s the stock mic.?

I operate digital mostly and everything works OK on that end.?

Re: 10m/2m transverter tests with TX-500 and KX2

I purchased one of these from this seller. It works fine with the TX-500 however there are two points to note:

1. The transverter is auto detect keying, which appears to be fast but does mean the SWR presented to the transceiver is initially high but then rapidly falls to ~1:1. At low power this shouldn't be a problem.
2. I found that with mine it is really easy to over drive and I needed to put in less than 5W to the transverter to get about 10W out on VHF FM. At 7W it was completely over driving the transverter with terrible distortion and about 20W o/p.
3. There are harmonics on the o/p every multiple of the IF and the IF plus the o/p F. I resolved this with a 100W band pass filter for 144 MHz that I bought on Aliexpress that works very nicely, and completely cleans the o/p in accordance with the specs described by the seller.

Re: NEW FIRMWARE V1.17.13

It sounds like they have tweaked the timing of the encoder-reading routine/driver to make it more responsive. This may make it more sensitive to encoders that are starting to age or have slightly imperfect contacts. Does the jumping occur at the same part of your encoder's rotation, Stephan (1 o'clock, 9 o'clock etc.)?

So it's really difficult to say what exactly makes this issue appear. It's definitely intermittent.
A large part of my work at HP was being able to determine the conditions necessary to reproduce a problem, so it could be fixed. I often needed help from field service people and customers to be able to do that. I know how frustrating that can be. My guess is that such a problem will be observed by others sooner or later.
