Re: "Hotels on the Air" antenna

The elecraft AX-1 or its DIY equivalent the qrpguys DS-1 I have used to good effect with the tx-500 and other small rigs.

Re: Question on Digimode Use of TX-500

So I have had some success since my last post.

I have turned up the volume slider in my Windows machine used for Winlink to drive the audio higher. This was triggering the VOX PTT on my MiniProSC interface, but I remembered that the PTT line is driven by one audio channel and the actual data is sent over the other (L&R, can't remember which does which) but by adjusting the balance, I could fine tune the data audio level and the PTT level independently.

The TX-500 does seem to need to be driven quite hard in terms of the audio, but it works really well when it is. I have been running off a 3S 18650 Li-Ion battery pack and for sustained digiops at 10W I was averaging around 400mAh used per 1 hour session. I recharge the packs from a AGM battery which in turn is charged by Solar panels.

Hope this may help someone.

I've used magnetic loop antennas successfully when my hotel window doesn't face an internal atrium. Here's the one I use:

If you have access to balcony, drop a wire down. EFHW might not need a tuner.

Re: AF gain volume during TX varies with power

I asked Roman (Lab599 support) about this several months ago but never got a reply. I sent the question in again today.

Re: Question on Digimode Use of TX-500

I've been having the exact same issue trying to use DIG mode.? Stefan described exactly what I'm experiencing.? I've tried using FT8, PSK, & WinLink with VARA-HF.? I can use all these modes on my other HF radios just fine.

While sending a long test message, I've been adjusting the MIC and DIG gain input levels to no avail.? And this is with two TX-500's.? Thus far, the common denominator in my testing is the one DigiRig v1.6 Mobile USB interface so I have a new one on the way along with pre-built cables.? News after that testing has been completed.

What I'd like to end up with is a go-kit for the TX-500 to include a small R-Pi processor (or similar) to send and receive messages on a solar-powered station.

Grace & peace,

Re: Battery & Amp

Got it directly from Oliver. I contacted him and he put me on the waiting list.?

Re: Question on Digimode Use of TX-500

If you are using an inline SWR/power meter make certain cables correct/tight.? I made this mistake yesterday while changing rigs and inadvertently reversed in/out cables...dumb!

Re: Question on Digimode Use of TX-500

Make sure DIG mode is enabled, make sure the cables are fully seated in the digirig, check that you are not in split mode

Hi Andy, did you get it from DIY599 directly or through some distributor?

Question on Digimode Use of TX-500

stefanpynappels

Hi All,

I've had this TX-500 for a long time, but have been off the air for a while, I am back and updated to the 1.19.01 firmware this morning (from 1.09.01 I think).

CW and SSB have been working fine over the last week on the old firmware, and appear to be fine on the new firmware, but I went to do some digimode work this morning and have found an issue which wasn't present when I last did digimode on the old FW, around a year ago.

I was using Vara and Winlink, but have tested the same on WJST-X.

Cat control works fine, and audio from the rig to the PC through a MiniProSC USB soundcard works fine too, I can receive FT8 without issue. However, when I went to TX, there was no power indicated on the meter, and when I switched to the MIC meter, no audio incoming registered.

The odd thing was that when I enabled monitor on the rig, the audio from the PC was heard on the monitor, so the soundcard appears to be ok, and the audio is getting to the rig, but it doesn't appear to be making it into the signal path where it's supposed to. The USB soundcard is connected to the REM/DATA socket, and as I said, I can get audio from the rig fine, and audio seems to be getting to the rig so I can hear it in the monitor on the speaker mic, but it does not seem to be entering the DIG signal path.

I may have done something stupid, but this did work previously, albeit a long time ago.

Any ideas?

Battery & Amp

Just received DIY599 battery & amp today. I knew I loved working with my TX500 but now with the option to increase the power a bit on those flat days out & about it¡¯s a really flexible system! 1to 60W in a portable package!
Looking forward to lots of outdoor QSOs with the MPAS 2.0¡
Give me a call if you hear me on the air!
