Re: New Firmware v1.16.04

CWS1/2 are CW STRINGS for keying from memory, they are not new

if you long press CWR, it switches to CW. I think it saves your setting. I don't see CWR at all anymore and I'm fine w that , I assume if I long press CW, it will come back

Re: New Firmware v1.16.04

I would like to see the mode CW as default instead of CWR. And there are two new items on the screen in CW mode CWS1 and CWS2 which are not yet in the manual.

Re: New Firmware v1.16.04

Loaded 1.16.04.? With all the recent updates I didn't need to refresh myself on the procedure to get into loader mode. Now we need the manual updates to know how to use the new-shiny features.I've already seen preliminary page for V/M memory mode that Dan Sloss shared in FB group and it looks very helpful.

I then did a quick protocol test and confirmed my pet-peeve is still not yet resolved.? We can set the TX-500 into DIG mode with 'MD6;' command but it still replies to 'MD;' query with 'MD2;' saying it is in USB mode, not DIG mode like the protocol could show.

Re: New Firmware v1.16.04

Oooo, another firmware update, I like it.

One thing I would like to see is the option to change the look of the "filter bandwidth" on the scope from a reversed display to a pair of vertical lines marking the extents, maybe at a slight or adjustable greyscale. I'm just not a big fan of that part of the display. 100% with the rest though.

Great job Lab599

Well, I tend to agree with Nick, KJTNWK concerning SOTA, etc. The tactical pack is quite nice and efficient. However, $400 is a bit pricey... I'll use what I have until I see some reviews.

I missed that.? (8) 4400 mah 18650's while not expensive is nothing to sneeze at.

Many have commented on the cost compared to other battery solutions.? I would fall in that category too when comparing it to my dewalt battery adaptor at about 35 bucks.

Howeve,r considering this is a cnc machined aluminum assembly with all the hardware and so on.? It really isn't that expensive in my mind.? I'm going to wait and see some real world feedback on early adopters before I consider one.??

But they sure look like a good piece of kit.

LiFePO4 has many advantages over LiIon batteries, except for their lower energy density (Wh/kg), which may sometimes be an important attribute. It all depends...

Changelog:
?
- Reworked mode of operating with memory cells
- Added setting of switching between memory cells: encoder or +/- keys

Have fun and 73, Stephan

You are correct. My sincere apologies. It does state lithium ion on the HRO link. I can¡¯t find anything that contradicts that.

I'm trying to find that information. According to the webpage of a reseller that was posted here: " Use replaceable 18650 lithium-ion batteries"

Others have said it does in fact use LiFePO4 type cells. An official confirmation from Lab599 would clear this up but there's nothing on their website as far as I can see.

Your friend may have a great battery pack but it¡¯s far too big for QRP/SOTA needs be.
Well I'll tell him that next time he hauls it up to a mountaintop! Use cases are not all the same and it's nice to have options.
Maybe I¡¯m misunderstanding the relevance of your comment.
It was intended to help those interested in knowing the differences between common 18650 lithium-ion and LiFePO4 technologies and making informed decisions about which best serves there needs.

Rodney, this was exactly my thought some time ago. The TRX will switch off the finals when too hot (happened to me), but the battery temperature is what worries me. Maybe they're well insulated against the back of the TRX?

But then on the HRO site, I read:
Provides Additional Cooling Of TX-500
I'm not interested in this battery pack (I'm very happy with my LiFePO4 batteries for a fraction of the cost), but I'm very much interested in a critical review that sheds light into this solution!

Re: Official Battery Pack BP-500

HRO is showing it as "drop ship from factory". So they are just the pass through. I'm curious to hear and see this in the wild. Heat distribution is my main concern. First, from the radio, second from the batteries. If I choose to run some type of solar augmentation while in use, I would be dealing with transmitter heat and battery pack heat. Irregardless of price, if anyone is going to follow this design, how are those two items overcome in design? I know, thinking out loud, but as I follow this thread I have found many incredible people with brilliant ideas.?
