Re: Operator error: Connected to 18V power source

Also check your replacement cord. Btw is it fused?

Re: Operator error: Connected to 18V power source

Just open it and inspect power input circuits and components near the battery. Could be something trivial.
If everything is ok there then things are worse that it could be.

doesn't the spec indicate power supply to 18vdc?
No. This is from the manual. It's quite clear:

OVERVOLTAGE PROTECTION When exceeding 15.0 volts, the transceiver won¡¯t allow switching to TX mode, (the voltage indicator on the display will become inverse); a significant excess (more than 16 volts) can cause the protective fuse to burn out, as well as the failure of the transceiver! Use a power source or battery with a voltage of 9 to 15 volts and a current of at least 3 Amps.

ATTENTION! Exceeding the supply voltage above 15 volts can damage? the transceiver!

OK,? but doesn't the spec indicate power supply to 18vdc? I'm pretty sure I've? run mine that high.
Voltages over 15V can damage the transceiver. Attached the portion of
page 10 of the manual, below the link to the PDF file at version
04/2022.

I usually read/write via email and I havent seen the parent message at first glance, this is what Norm pointed out two messages before, basically.

Re: Operator error: Connected to 18V power source

Spec is "External power supply DC 9-15V, 1 to 3A typical in transmit" from the site main page. You may have run at 18V and been ok but im going to call that more luck and not something one should do.

Unfortunately, I doubt it, if you read the section "Overvoltage Protection" in the user manual.

Re: BP500 Questions

Has anyone received a recent shipment from HRO?? I had heard they recently received another batch.

That's interesting.? I seem to recall running mine on 18v before with no issues.? I would definitely send it for repair.? It may be a warranty issue.

Operator error: Connected to 18V power source

The fuse went instantly. ?I replaced the power cord with a new Digirig cord and the TX500 will not power up when connected to a Samlex 12V power source. ?I have not opened the TX500 up and am wondering if I need to send it in for repair or is there something simple that I can do. ?I purchased it in 7/2023 but this doesn't seem to be a warranty issue; it's the result of my stupidity. ?Any suggestions? ?

Thanks,
Mike

Re: BP500 Questions

I received this reply from Roman at LAB599 tech support answering my questions:

Hello David,
?
Thank you for contacting lab599 support!
?
1. You can use batteries of different capacities, but the total capacity will be determined by the least capacitive element, i.e. -- when installing 2Ah, 3Ah and 6Ah elements into one bank, the total capacity will be equal to 2Ah.
There are no restrictions on the maximum capacity of 18650 elements used.
?
2. We recommend using 18650 cells without protection. The battery pack has a built-in charge/discharge controller.
?
3. In receiving mode with a minimum volume level, the transceiver consumes about 0.11 - 0.12A. Accordingly, the transceiver can operate in receive mode for more than three days using elements with a capacity of 6Ah.
In transmit mode, the transceiver consumes up to 3A; the total operating time will depend on your activity on the air.
?
4. The input voltage of the battery pack is from 13 to 50V, if the maximum voltage of your panel does not exceed 50V, then you can use it safely.
?
5. A fuse is provided to protect the external power input.
?
6. Yes, you can use the transceiver with a battery pack and a solar panel connected to it. In this case, the battery pack will work as a UPS - when the voltage drops, power will be supplied from the batteries.
?
With best regards,
Roman

Re: latest on the BP-500

Just completed a full charging cycle with my new BP-500 and I'm getting 4.15v (+/- 0.01v), on all 6 cells. Perfect! Loving the BP-500 so far.

Re: BP500 Questions

The BP-500 is setup as 3s2p, so using 3500mah cells that gives a total capacity of 7ah. Best in class by a long ways.?

Just a side note: the supplied AC/DC charging adapter is very RF noisy on all HF bands, but if you charge via a clean regulated DC supply the BP-500 charges no significant RFI.

Just received my BP-500 this afternoon from HRO. Fit and finish are excellent. HRO sent the radio with good quality Samsung 3500mah cells. I already confirmed direct solar charging from an AllPowers 60w folding panel @ 23 volts. Can't wait to get out into the field with this kit!
