Sounds like you have RF getting in to the radio via the mic cable. I've had similar issues when working on a SOTA summit with the radio and an EFHW antenna. It's fine for CW but noticeable when using SSB. If you had CMR turned on, turn it off and see if that helps. It certainly did for me.??
