Re: Rotovic 23

Hi all,
I was told of this car some time ago by Henry Toombs who restored the
car back to an original engine. The Rotovic was six Arial Arrow engines
put together to form a 12 cyl. 1.5 ltr engine. I guess the thinking was
like modern F1 aiming for power through revs rather than torque and
therefore keeping the drivetrain componentry smaller and lighter as it
needed to deal with revs rather than torque. Target was 10,000rpm
apparently so still not high reving by todays standards. I have a
reprint article from the period by John Bolster but don't know from
what magazine. I also have articels on other conversions including a
Chevy II and a Porsche 904. This later car may have just surfaced in
the UK as I have a customer with such a modified car he plans to
restore.

I was also told that the Rotovic engine is in the Donnington museum but
have never confirmed it. If anyone knows it would be interesting to
hear?

cheers

Guys,

I just discovered a web site that you all should visit. It is
www.utahlotusmuseum.com They actually have the car that at one time
had the Rotovic engine in it and an explaination of what the engine
was. There are pictures of the car but not the strange engine. They
do have a great account of the LeMans banning of the 23. Very
interesting reading. They also have pictures of a Lotus 23C that is
in the museum. Actually, it looks a lot like my 23B but is probably
different in detail.
