Subject: Lists os Jewish children in Tengeru

I really appreciate all the hard work gone into this wonderful and
very informative group . I have been trying or some time to get more
information about my grandparents . My father was born in Tengeru
Camp and still has his original birth certificate . A few years
later he was adopted by another family from Rhodesia . My fathers
parents were Jewish and I would like to know if there are any lists
of Jewish children that were in Tengeru . Or perhaps of anyone can
help my grandmothers name was Anna Rein . I am not too sure where to
start to find information .

I am actually South African but have been living in Germany for about
4 years now . If anyone has any info or can help then I would really
appreciate it .

Hi Stefan,

The honour would be all mine ... Yes, the documents arrived, the
Polish Underground Study Institute has very good archive system in
London, and my sister had them translated as my Polish is not
brilliant, provided quite a lot of insights and new info. leads that I
want to follow up. Like many soldiers, my father didn't talk a lot
about wartime experiences ... how many people are in the group? If
it's not huge by all means go ahead and use the note, thanks. yes I'm
still in Rome, there's quite a big Polish community here naturally
with the Pope and also a good Polish Institute with some intellectuals
who found themselves beached here during Solidarity, unfortunately no
good Polish restaurants or sausage shops here! I imagine there may be
a sizeable community of Polish origin in Sydney ... Rgrds.

Thanks for your note. I'm not sure that I'd qualify for membership
strictly though it's true that my father had to flee Poland to the
west because he was pursued by the nkvd for his AK underground

work,

also my grandfather narrowly avoided being shot at Katyn ... I'm

happy

to link up with the group if you think I could contribute, it'd

help

to find out some more about my family history ... sounds to me as

if

there is the making of a book possibly in your activities ... best

Congratulations on the beautiful and fascinating site of your

father's

diary. My late father, Ireneusz Filipowicz, also was in Italy

with

Polish forces at end of World War II as a young officer (after
escaping from Poland along a different route through Berlin) and

moved

to England, but stayed there, taking English name Phillips and

working

as a textile engineer and management consultant, until he died in

1984

at age 60 (too early also ...).
My grandfather was among reserve officers marched off to be sent

to

Katyn from Lublin but managed to escape among civilians lining

the

route. He and my grandmother made some visits to England when I

was

a

child.
I have two cousins in Cracow, one of whom I am in touch with
regularly and visited in 1997 -- quite an emotional first visit

for

me, and others, more distant, who I have not met. I know little

about

my father's war adventures but the Polish history institute in

London

advises me that they have found some documents they are sending

me

that I look forward to receiving.

Thank you again for the pleasure of reading about your father's
odyssey. Maybe you should consider making it into a book if you

did

not already!

Hi Stefan,

My name is Peter Plackowski.

I am British by birth, and a naturalized US citizen.I live near San
Francisco,California.

My father, his brother and sisters, and his parents were deported from Luck
(Lutsk), in present day Ukraine to Siberia at the start of the second world
war.

According to family oral histroy, my grandfather Andrzej Plackowski was killed
by the soviets during this deportation.

The rest of the family survived the internment in Siberia and were released
during the amnesty.My father, Stanislaw, headed south to join Anders army and
ended up serving under the British army in Egypt before being shipped to the
UK.

The rest of the family made it to a refugee camp near Tehran and were later
moved to a camp in Uganda.

Through my father's efforts in the UK, he managed to bring his mother
(Karolina) and sister (Zofia) and brother (Henry) to the UK. His oldest sister
(Anna) was too old to be allowed into the UK, and so had to remain in Uganda
where she met and married a South African and now leaves in a suburb of
Johannesburg.

My father is no longer alive, nor is his mother, however is two sisters and
his brother are still living.

My goal in joining your group is to research and document my family history
using the stories of other survivors and official documentation, and to share
this story with others.
