Rememberance Day
Anne Kaczanowski
On this Rememberence Day, 2003, my sympathies and prayers go out to all soldiers who died, regardless of race, creed, or colour. On each of the battlefields on both sides, were thousands of husbands, brothers, fathers and grandfathers who died doing their duty for their respective countries. ? ??But especially?from my heart to all the Polish 2nd Corps and their families. They didn't recieve the honor and recognition they deserved?as soldiers,?and for?what this group of men had?overcome, ?to finally?become the courageous soldiers they were, ....and after all these years, still don't, ......according to?most?history books or World War 2 publications,?written in America.?
?
.........?but the powerful strength of their spirits marchs on through us.? Do you Yahoo!? |

Odelle, can you give us your father's name (and any other family members). It may also be worth also researching under "Rejn", the Polish spelling of that name. There was a Jozef Rejn (son of Mikolaj) who made it to Anders Polish Army forming in Russia. Meanwhile, have you seen our Tengeru album? u Regards Stefan Wisniowski ---------- From: "odecap" <capouya@...> |

Italy at the moment?) John, we are now 364 members (nearly one for every day of the year!) There is a bit of a Polish community in Sydney of 2 major immigration waves (post-war refugees and Solidarity-era migrants). But we do not have the Pope! I do not know much about the Polish Underground Study Institute. Is this the same as the "The Polish Underground Movement Study Trust" (Main Branch 11 Leopold Road, London W5 3PB)? Can you tell us some more about them and what they have or do? Best regards Stefan Wisniowski ---------- From: "John Phillips" <jhphill@...> |

Peter, have you already obtained your father's military service records from the Ministry of Defense? Your family seems to be included on the list of evacuees on our Gallery at &id=10_4_O0308_P0157 The names are #76 Anna PLECKOWSKA (born 19.1.1929; 17 was too old to get into the UK? ) and #77 Zofia PLECKOWSKA (born 28.2.1939) - both listed as in Africa at the time. And on a later page, =PWlist&id=11_3_P1085_P1553 is listed #1259 Karolina PLACKOWSKA (born 16.2.1904 in Marusia, Luck county) located in Teheran at the time. You may wish to list them on our Memorial Wall at Hope this helps... Stefan Wisniowski ---------- From: Peter Plackowski <pplackow@...> |

Re: POLISH CEMETERY OPENED IN UKRAINE
Very True, there is something on the terrestial TV about the Jews in Poland
this week. This I can't remember exactly as I have thrown away the newspaper it will be worth watching if I ever get to remember the channel that it's supposed to be on. Apparently it begins with the infloux of Jews to Poland in the 13th Century and traces all the aspects up to the present times, even having a interview with the present Chief Rabbi in Poland. Re: POLISH CEMETERY OPENED IN UKRAINE
It still amazes me how the Ukrainians manage to "dissagree" to something that some of their own countrymen did. Yet they are adamant that they were and still are the victims of Polish, Soviet and German oppression, especially the ones that are living in Canada.
There area lot of cemeterys in Ukraine that should be reopened and survivours or their representatives allowed to lay flowers on those graves. Paul tonygabis writes: A Polish cemetery was opened near Rivne in northwestern Ukraine on 6 November, Polish Radio reported. The cemetery is located at the site where in March 1943 a unit of Nazis and Ukrainian police collaborators razed the Polish village of Borszczowka and murdered virtually all of its inhabitants. Those who managed to escape the slaughter included the father of Poland's current first lady, Jolanta Kwasniewska. Two of Kwasniewska's relatives were killed and buried in a collective grave near Borszczowka in 1943. "This was exceptionally painful to me, when we were able to light candles and lay flowers in many places around the world but had no such possibility in the place where our close ones were murdered," Kwasniewska said during the opening ceremony. An inscription at the cemetery reads, "To those brutally murdered by fascists," since the Ukrainian side disagreed with a formulation saying that the crime was committed by Germans and Ukrainians, according to Polish Radio.
