Traanslation help please - Abercorn camp article
Stefan Wisniowski
Hi all,
Could I ask for a volunteer to translate the Polish excerpt on Abercorn camp in Africa, which can be found attached as 3 JPEG images on the previous message "More on Abercorn"? I believe that it would be of interest not only to Rachael, whose mother stayed there, but also to the rest of the group. Please reply to let the list know if you are volunteering so we do not duplicate your efforts. Many thanks in advance - dziekuje serdecznie. -- Stefan Wisniowski Moderator, Kresy-Siberia |
More on Abercorn
Stefan Wisniowski
Hi Rachael
Have you had a chance to follow up on the earlier leads on Abercorn residents? Do you need help to contact the ladies in Poland? Meanwhile, Wladyslaw has sent me further information on Abercorn, as follows with my rough translation. Interestingly, there seems to be an association of people who went through the African camps that meets periodically - perhaps you and your mother would be interested in attending their next reunion? Attached are excerpts from the Bulletin mentioned below. Please let us know if you wish to pursue any of these leads further. Many of our families suffered a similar fate on 10 Feb 1940. The lucky ones ended up in Persia, England, and various other places (like a Diaspora). Now it is up their children and grandchildren - like yourself - to discover and communicate their experiences, whenever possible with the remaining survivors while they are still with us. George we look forward to hearing more about your family experiences and hope that we can help each other with our research. Perhaps you can tell us the names of your parents, and whether they had other family members who went through these experiences as well? Do you know how your father got from Poznan to England in 1944? Pozdrawiam, Stefan Wisniowski From: George Neisser <George.Neisser@...> |

Kristin. Please be sure to visit our websites to scan the previous messages, photos and links. Not to worry about your Polish, our main language is English - and we are happy to translate for our Polish-speaking members. Can you tell us anything more about your relative's names, places and dates? We have a number of present-day Belarus and Lithuania families in the group. Anything we can help you with? Leningrad/Krasnova/Yakovleva(Valentina)
Hello, need help locating my late maternal Grandfather,? family , Ivan? Nikolaevitch Krasnov died around 1926 in Dimidov, Smolensk. After his first wife Zinaida died, he married Alexandra Goranina and had my mother and aunt. He also left an eldest daughter Valentina from? his first marriage. My grandmother Alexandra moved to her family? Goranin, in Mogilev Belarus. Valentina (his eldest daughter) was sent to her late mother family in Leningrad where she grew up, married and had a son Jenya and daughter Nora. The family was relocated together with the shoe factory "Skorokhodova" evacuated to Omsk, during the war. Valentina Ivanovna Yakovleva lived in an apartment in Leningrad before the evacuation Skorokhodova 18/9 Leningrad. Anyone has any suggestions/ideas that may help me find family members of my late grandfather Ivan Nikolaevitch Krasnov, anywhere in the world? any suggestions/ideas will be greatly appreciated. Kristin Mojsiewicz Kobryn relatives?
Hello and welcome Kristin.
My name is nadia and I live in the USA and this summer have just found and reunited with my family ?both in Poland and here in the USA. My aunt Maria Mojsiewicz (my father Romuald Dabrowski's sister) is living in Drawsko Pomorski (I visited her also this summer) her husbands family are all from Kobryn. One of her sons Adam Mojsiewicz (my newfound cousin) is living in New Jersey. Both him and his sister were born in Kobryn and all their fathers family are still living there. Can you give me names and dates and I can call him and ask him, you never know he might even know the family you are looking for. Good luck on your search. Nadia, Tucson Arizona. |
UK Census 1901
John Nieurzyla
For your information
Ignore the information on the PRO site, I've spoken to the helpline in the last hour and confirmed that BT have closed the census site down for the time being. Several reports I've read say that people believe the site is online because the home page has opened - this is because the details are stored in your cache. The [very pleasant] spokesperson I spoke to didn't know when the site would be back online again but her best bet was that it wouldn't be during this weekend. For those of you who, like myself, have given credit card details but have been unable to download the minimum 5 worth of pages, the session time has been extended to 148 hours, and official downtime such as Thursday's 3 hours and this weekend, will not be included in the 148 hours. Also, the minimum charge will not apply to this period and charges will only be for pages downloaded [6x50p in my case]. |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPaul,
Have you asked your contacts in
Poland?
Or that bookshop in Warsaw I think I
told
you about?? I realise it's out of print,
but
a good bookshop has it's "network"..and

they have contacts with secondhand
book
dealers.

Re: Searching for a book

I tried that already, they told me it's out of print so I'm hoping that there's a store or a person out there that is willing to part with their copy Paul At 06:07 01/05/2002 +0100, you wrote: Paul

This may be a matter for our friends in the Polish diplomatic corps to take up with the Ukraine. ??Any thoughts from the well-connected members of the group?

Scandalous Deeds...........
I'd thought that I'd mention this
Some of you might know and some might not, the Cemetery of the Defenders of Lwow(Orleta Lwowskie) was slowly eradicated after the end of WWII the cemetery is now rebuild but it wasn't properly reconstructed. There are some things missing and a major change has happened to it. On the signs of the fallen children the Ukrainians have substituted a new headers. Now the monuments contain words of ; To the Fallen heroes of World War II (Dla bochaterow Drugiej Wojny) That is a blatant lie and disregard of history, those children helped to beat the Ukrainians in the aftermath of WWI and now they are trying to erase all those times. I'm sorry for getting on my soap box but this is really getting me mad Paul
