Hello Stefan, Even though I joined the group some time ago, I have not kept up with the messages, but now I have something to offer to the photo album site and need your help to do it. Due to my research in connection with my aunt's biography I met a 94 year-old woman in my small town of Lock Haven, PA, who had been a nurse in the Army Nurse Corp in the China-Burma-India division. While she did not cross my aunt's path directly, she and her colleages (doctors and nurses) organized and held Christmas parties (1943 and 1944) for the children of the Polish refugee camp in Karachi. She has quite a number of pictures of that event and is willing to share them with the Kresy-Siberia site. My husband scanned them and now needs to know what to do next with them. He is more computer literate than I am. Please let us know.
Thank You, F. Gerry Cierpilowski

Letter from Archives Lwow - Translation Help Required
Hi all,
I got a shock today, I received a letter from the Archives Office in Lwow after God knows how many months; trouble is, it is written in Ukrainian Cyrillic.
Can anyone help with translating - it's only 1 page [hopefully something of use too!]

Julek
I have been away from my computer for a while and was shocked to read of your disaster. How awful for you and your family! Thank God you are safe. I'll be thinking of you often. I don't know what else to say, I wish I could offer you some comfort.
Please let us know how you are getting on.

Julian Plowy and the California fires
Dear Julek,
I heard about the disastrous fire that comsumed your house and your belongings. I hope that you can still read the outpourings of sympathy that members of the Kresy group sent via the website.
Your efficiency and speed with the CD containing the Tengeru impressed me greatly.
I wish you all the best in these difficult days.
Best regards,

Dear Barb,
Thank you for your tip. It must feel wonderful to
have made a connection.Sometimes I feel overwhelmed just by the amount of
time/passage of time that has elapsed since my father left Poland and the
present day. I'll keep you posted.

Joy,
I recently had success working only with my
grandfather's army book.? I looked up the last name in the Polish phone
book at ?searching
in the area near?my grandfather's?place of birth - mine happened to
be Niezdow nr. Krakow.? I then sent letters to all of the addresses I
found - 7 of them.? One of these people knew someone with the same last
name living in Krakow, who as it turns out, was my mum's first cousin.?
Until then we knew nothing about my grandfather's side of the
family.
It would seem that people move a lot less in
Poland than we do and are?sometimes still near the old "homestead"?
Your chances are higher in an area like Krakow where there were fewer
relocations of families after the war.? It's worth a try if you think you
might have some family still in Poland.

Hello,
?
I have found this group to be such a wonderful,
supportive source! I so look forward to reading everyone's
emails.
?
I have recently uncovered some of my father's
records.
?
I understand I should contact the ministry for
definitives, but is there anything I can learn from reading these? I have
his army card - can I identify which branch he was in?
?
I also have his marriage certificate. I can not
read all- but :Niedawrade- Krakow.
Are there any other clues I can look for on
these documents?
I also have a copy of someone's birth
certificate other than my father's - I think his sister's
daughter.?Perhaps the name on here can help some others?Dziadura, Maria

Forgotten soldiers of 2nd Polish Corps?
Hi yourself. Glad you've a start on your
searches. Two wonderfully helpful ladies work there [Margaret and
Barbara]. If you explain, they'll go through their name-lists, they both
speak Eng and Polish.
?
Where in Poland are you? Your English is
better than mine, and I was born here!
?
Perhaps you can give me some advise? I'm
trying to get a copy of my dad's Birth Cert. I know all the details, but
the church records fr that year we're destroyed in the War. The Civil
local office near his village won't send them, I have to go in person.
There must be a 'central' place I must write to for. Althogh it is now
Ukraine, it was Poland in 1914

Forgotten soldiers of 2nd Polish Corps?
Hi Linder!
I don't live in UK but in Poland. I had some problems?to
contact with MOD but one of our K-S members sent their new address and I
think it woun't be a problem this time. I know I have to send my request
in special form and I have to prove my kinship. All is understandable. I
have only one problem. Nobody in my family knows when my grandfather was
really born- he was changing his birthday date to avoid compulsory
service in Wehrmacht, and he changed it during the WWII few times, too.
I wander if he was sure for himself when was his real birthday? I hope
MOD won't reject my request when I'll write? different date from
that one in their record.
?
Cheers!
