Dear All,
I am writing a paper for a conference in Manchester on the Kresy-
Siberia website. I have given it the title ''Remembrance, Research
and Recognition': The Kresy-Siberia Internet Forum and the Polish
Experience in Siberia'. My abstract includes reference to the
internet as a site of new `homes' as a recent phenomenon. It seeks to
consider the relationship between home, belonging and the Kresy-
Siberia cyber-community. Within the paper I want to explore the
concept of not only belonging to the forum, but to a group of Polish
or hyphenated Poles who have not necessarily met in person and yet
share a common bond, and the experience(s) of Siberia. Indeed, the
idea of inherited experience through new technology will be
considered especially as the internet site was only founded in
September 2001. Access to the archived material held by the forum
will also be discussed as a form of protection not only over the
(internet) site but also the experiences and testimonies archived. I
intend to explore what the site means to its members, how the members
view the site and how the Polish experience of Siberia is
memorialised and commemorated through member posts of poetry,
autobiography and photography.
So, I would be most grateful if members could let me know what the
site means to you, why you are members and how you heard about it.
Best wishes to all
