Hi Stefan,
I must apologise for giving the wrong address to the
group! Good job Bob was paying attention!
I understand that all Govt/MoD departments in UK have
a charter to answer the publics requests promptly and
communicate effectively. Moving base and not updating
websites etc does not sound to me as if they are on
top of this charter. I might just see if I can make
that point with them and see if they will update the
web site, place the MoD form 1000 on line for down
loading and accept email requests if only to give
yes/no answers. Or at least find out if it is in the
pipeline. It would save them time and money. The
objection might be that they want to register and
allocate a reference number first. However, that just
requires a flip in the process to change and makes
them more accessable to the general public.
It seems that they are moving from Nissan huts near
Millhill to an RAF base down the road at North Holt. I
suspect a few Poles have flow Spitfires and Hurricanes
out of that airfield in its time. Hopefully
communications can be improved on such a large base.
Need to find a friendly RAF Officer to see if he can
help out!
In your view do you think that the Sikorski Institute
could be coached round to being more 'user friendly'?
Or is it a lost cause? I am interested in a challenge
and if there was even a small chance of changing their
attitude would be willing to take it on. Of course it
would probably have to be in specific areas rather
than across the board. From your experience what is
the most requested information from the Institute.
Perhaps we could poll it on the board to find out?
Maybe even volunteer to set a website up for them?
Some things never change.... stores are for storing
sir or they would be called sign here and hand outs!
And now it seems archives are for archiving!
Be Interested to know your views on this.
Regards
Stephen
One point, MOD does not reply to e-mails - probably
their e-mail address is
obsolete.
As for SI, they are not currently in the information
access business like
MOD is. Perhaps in the future?
