Paul,
Back in school in Toronto in the 60's and 70's, my best friend growing
up was Ukrainian. His parents wanted the same thing that mine did: to
bring up their children in a safe country, free from hate and war.
I do remember vividly one incident in the classroom: a Serb and a
Croat yelling at each other and putting down each other's
nationalities. They were nine years old! This is the kind of blind
hate passed on generation to generation by parent to child.
It is not a surprise that some Poles and Ukrainians harbour grudges
against each other either due to personal experience or due to the
centuries long history of borderland squabbles. The truth can hurt but
we want to research it, aknowledge it, make our peace with it and
learn from it. I would hope that the Ukrainians, Belorussians,
Lithuanians, Jews, Russians and Germans want to do the same.
Your professor of Political Science should be offered the opportunity
to disprove the statements on your site. He is a scientist and should
be happy to seek the research that will back up his opinions.
