Authorized Kenwood Service Center

Howdy folks.? I have a Kenwood TS-590sg that is in serious need of some servicing.? To that end I am in search of a service center that can get'er done.
?
The Kenwood site lists one in New York - which I have emailed a couple of times. So far they have ignored my inquiry. But there has to be more out there somewhere.
?
I was ripped off on an ICOM job I needed done a few years ago so I tend to shy away from independent technicians.? I'm sure there are honest ones out there but 'once bitten, twice shy' as the saying goes.
?
Any 'constructive' input is welcome.? Thanks y'all.

Wayne, I cannot help you with a tech center, but wondered if you have been through all of the steps in section 15 of the Instruction Manual "Trouble Shooting"
In particular there is an interesting section on resetting the microprocessor and wondered if that might clear up some of the problems you are experiencing?

"If your transceiver seems to be malfunctioning, resetting the microprocessor to its default settings may resolve the problem. There are 2 levels of resetting the microprocessor of the TS-590SG transceiver: Partial Reset and Full Reset."

In addition there is a VFO Reset

"Perform a VFO Reset if a key or control does not function according to the instructions in this manual. The following data is NOT erased by performing a VFO Reset.

  • Memory channel data

  • Menusettings

  • Antenna tuner preset data

  • ANT 1/ ANT 2 selection data

  • Frequency and mode data for the Auto Mode function

  • Various adjustment setting values

?Instructions are on page 85 if you have not tried these

Thanks Jeff.. I did not follow those instructions specifically. I did do a master reset.. a couple of times. Also pulled my hair out chasing the individual gremlins.?
?
And, even if my efforts had found & fixed the other issues, I verified that the frequency has drifted off so I know it needs an alignment.?
?
If this was a Hallicrafters, or National, or a Swan, even a Collins, I'd be all over it. But with shaky hands and diminishing eyesight, I don't trust myself to dig around in a rig that is packed as tightly as the Kenwood.?
?
And the rig was gifted to me by the widow of a SK... It would be an extra layer of horrible if I was poking around in there and let smoke out.?
?
So, I appreciate the suggestions but, for me, the best choice is to put it in the hands of someone that does that kind of thing for a living.
